My legs were dead and sore all Sunday from the walking  :lol but I did get that Lego set I shared in the general discussion thread. Also, lunch in Little Italy was better than expected. Otherwise I was mostly miserable.

Flying into LGA sit on the left side of the aircraft. If you get the expressway visual approach you'll be glad you did.

I'm on the left side, but it's an aisle seat.

Made it back from my trip to Scotland, no thanks to the pricks at Heathrow security. Everytime I go to London I hope to be proved wrong, and every single time I'm vindicated about how much of a cesspool nightmare that place is.

I hope my experience is better for my upcoming trip, though I am going in through a different airport.

Sunday night, I'm taking a red eye to New York.  Flying into Laguardia for the first time.  When Expedia, Hotels.com and VRBO consolidated, I ended up with enough whoopie points for the flight out there to be paid for, although I learned that you can't use those points for flights on United, Delta or American.  So...LAX to LGA (via Orlando) on JetBlue.

I upgraded to exit row seats for my red eye flights.  For the LAX to MCO leg, I had the entire row to myself (as did the guy across the aisle).  For the MCO to LGA leg, there was no one in the middle seat.  AND after landing around 9am, I was able to check into my hotel in Brooklyn at 10:30!  I didn't even have to ask for early check-in.

I just hope something doesn't go horribly wrong to offset how it's gone so far.

This trip could hardly have gone better.

I got to visit with a few of my cousins whom I hadn't seen since 2000.  They insisted on driving from Amityville to Brooklyn to pick me up, took me back to Amityville, we had a nice long chat and went to a nice restaurant for dinner, and then they drove me back to Brooklyn.  I kept telling them I could take the train, but they wouldn't hear of it.

I went to the Mets game on Wednesday and then drove up to Keene, NH to see the kid play (see the "happy" thread).  Flew home on Saturday.  More exit rows, with both seats next to me empty on the DEN-SNA leg (unfortunately, we were also more than an hour late because of weather).

Nice, glad you had a good trip to the Northeast  :metal

Mentioned in the concerts thread, but my gf and I booked out flights to Denver for the 4 nights before July 4th to see a couple Red Rocks concerts and then explore the Rocky Mountains.

Should also be booking my flight for Atlanta in September for ProgPower.  Flights are looking about as cheap as it gets typically for that trip.

Off for a 8 Night cruise down the Norwegian Fjords.  Did a similar trip 6 years ago (slightly different itinerary) but the ship broke and we only got 2 stops outta 4 - hopefully this one will be more successful  ;D  (although the weather looks......interesting).

I have never done a cruise. I always think you are confined on a big boat and there is nowhere to go, or I can't think of what to do for fun while being onboard. Please tell me I am wrong, and why?

That's actually my dream trip, not for the cruise per se, but for seeing Norway and the fjords! I was considering doing a cruise that passed also through Belgium and the Netherlands before hitting Bergen, Alesund and the Geirangerfjord (eventually it would go on to Iceland), but timeline-wise it was not doable, now I'm considering other options.
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

We did Bergen on the last cruise (one of the stops we got to before the ship borkedown, lol).   Won't be going to Bergen this time because this ship is too tall to get under the bridge on the river into Bergen!    We have Stavanger, Olden, Haugesund & Kristiansand on this time.  I'd really like to do Iceland too - but that adds another week to the cruise which isn't doable with work at the minute (and cost, lol).

Would love to do a cold cruise, like Norwegian or Alaskan or something. I'd probably be more interested in that than in a Caribbean (or the like) one.

It depends on your jam.  You have plenty of entertainment - a theatre group/show on every night, a mixture of singers, comics, guest speakers, quizzes and general entertainers playing in the various bars. Swimming pools & hot tubs, a spa and gym, a cinema, a casino, a library.  A plenty of other stuff - last one I ended up in a super mario kart tournament.

I'm heading to San Jose Costa Rica in early June for work. The flight options are less than ideal. I need to be there Tuesday and Wednesday all day. I can leave at noon Monday and arrive at 8pm. I could also leave at 5am and get there at 1pm. Thursday the only flight that gets home at a reasonable time leaves at 7am. Which means I visiti a beautiful tropical country and get to spend zero time outside of the hotel. I could stay another day on my own dime and do some sightseeing. But I'm not sure if that's worth the money right now and it leaves my wife home with the kids by herself in a year with lots of travel already. Can't decide what to do.

Id say come back and do a proper trip. I've been to Costa Rica a couple of times and it's one of my favorite places to vacation, it's an incredibly beautiful country

Alright. Spent 6 days in Mexico dealing with dental stuff. Interesting experience, and in truth I could have done the whole thing in 1. My own bumbling caused quite a delay (my local dentist is closed Fridays, and Monday was a national holiday). Was totally unaware that Dallas got clobbered on Tuesday. Not a clue. So Wednesday I'm flying home and my flight got delayed from 1320 to 1440 (and then a bit more). Flight delays happen, I get it, and this one was honestly rather convenient for me. Unfortunately, upon landing at 1610 they didn't have a gate for us, so we got stuck in the penalty box for one-hour-forty. That's a long-ass time to sit on a plane waiting for a place to unload. It sucked. Other planes just had stair-cars come out and buss them to a terminal, but probably because we were international that didn't happen. Eventually they got us to a gate, and then we waiting 10 more minutes for some clod to figure out how to work the jetway. Parked us 15 gates from customs, and by the time I got there it was a one hour wait to get through that. Basically from wheels on the ground to walking out the doors of terminal D was 4 hours.

A $45 uber ride later, this is what I came home to. That's my bedroom window in the center.

It took ten minutes or so to find a path to crawl through to get to my door. Here's what I had to contend with. Yes, that's a balcony leaning up against the door.

This happened at 0620 on Tuesday morning. Apparently the HOA head had the fire department out to check on me to find out if I was trapped in there (I do appreciate the sentiment). My car would normally be parked directly underneath the tree, and nobody could make out whether or not it was in there. The FD apparently concluded that there was no car so I was probably not home. The good news is that, aside from a skinned knee from crawling through the tree, one broken window, and a lost pair of prescription glasses there was really no damage to me and mine. Power didn't even go out (unlike a third of Dallas, some of which are still out).

As many have probably noticed I'm rather keen on engineering disasters. I'm also very well versed on Champlain Towers South, more-so than most, and building collapse is always somewhere rattling around in my noggin. The window it took out is less than two feet from where I sleep. Had that been the thing to awaken me the debris blocking my doorway would have probably been the only thing preventing me from running through the parking lot with nothing but a gun, wallet, phone, and morning wood.  :lol

The good news is that the power is still out at the shop, so all said, I only used 1 day of PTO.  :tup

Yeah, bottom floor. This building is really quite bizarre. The apartment above me starts on the second floor, and is actually one and a half stories from there (though I think the loft might be closed off).  So technically there are three stories at my corner of the building.

Wow, that's quite shitty but also quite fortunate.  Crazy how things end up happening.  That's one big tree too.  Glad to hear everything is mostly alright though.  Also, that wait on the tarmac is MISERABLE.  That might be worse than the tree lol

Yeah, the HOA head kind of chastised me for crawling through all of that to get inside. I couldn't explain to her just how badly I wanted to sleep in my own bed after that incredibly miserable flight. She did make it very clear, though, that the HOA would have gladly put me up in a hotel had I asked, which is amazingly cool of her.

edit:
That's one big tree too.
I think it's entirely possible that tree saved me $10/mo on my electricity bill. While I won't miss bird shit all over my car, I'll definitely miss the shade it provided a great deal.
