First one is Omnivortex - Diagrams of Consciousness...A couple of days ago I checked out their second album, which I liked. But I revisited the debut today and, for now, I find it superior. It's pretty relentless too, but it's more varied (even in the vocal approach), with influences that range from death, thrash and also a bit of sludge (the "cleaner" vocals are a bit Mastodon-esque).
Also a quick comment on Skunkworks - I always, always enjoy it. Such a good album. Bruce is in fantastic shape and the band is excellent. I recently re-listened to Adrian Smith's Psycho Motel - speaking of Maiden-related forays in slightly more "alternative" territories - and as much as I love Smith's playing, there really is no competition here (imo). Skunkworks has so many more memorable moments and great tunes.
Plus, other than in a couple of songs, the "grunge-y" influence everyone was talking about when this came out is really not that prevalent. Just one of many ingredients. Oh, and Back from the Edge is one of my favorite Bruce solo-songs.
