Hey guys this is my first roulette so expect it to be simple and straightforward.
Rules:
- 8 Contestants
- 8 Rounds
- All Rounds will be Open. No themes.
- I will rank the songs 1-8 on how much I enjoy them. #1 getting 8 points, #2 getting 7 points, and so on.
- I will accept Youtube links or something that can be found on Spotify.
I will begin this as soon as I get 8 contestants, which shouldn't take too long. I'm reserving a spot for black_floyd for now as he said most likely take part. I have 3 people already interested, Scorpion, Nekov, and Seneca. So that leaves 4 spots open. Come quick!
Contestants:
1. senecadawg2
2. Scorpion
3. Nekov
4. Elitist.
5. Parama
6. Sacul
7. kingshmegland
8. black_floyd
And I now have 8 contestants. Thank you gentlemen for a quick and easy process.
Alright, as far as my tastes go, I'm what you would probably call a Steven Wilson fanboy, but I generally like anything. I'm not necessarily huge on Progressive Metal, but I'm willing to give more of that stuff a shot. For example, Pain of Salvation has been kind of hit or miss for me, but I haven't listened to a whole lot of them, so they won't be included on this list. And I'm willing to give them more chances, because all the bands I know and love today had to grow on me. I wasn't fond of DT or PT when I first heard them, but now they're among my favorites. Lately, I've been exploring different genres such as rap, funk, jazz, and blues. This shouldn't be too hard for any of you because I'm very open to new styles of music, and I generally like most of what I hear. Plus, my banned list will be pretty short:
Aerosmith
Agalloch
Alter Bridge
Anathema
Andrew W.K.
Animals as Leaders
The Aristocrats
Avenged Sevenfold
The Beatles
Between the Buried and Me
Blackfield
Blink182

Buckethead
Chevelle
Coheed and Cambria
Coldplay
Daft Punk
David Gray
The Dear Hunter
The Decemberists
Deep Purple
Devin Townsend
Dream Theater
dredg

Yes
There might be more but that's good enough. I'll add more if I remember. The ones in bold letters are ones that are my favorites.
-
Okay.
I'll do my best to send swiftly.
-
You can't partake in my roulette.
hahajk.
-
And I'll post a list of banned bands shortly.
-
So, while we wait for more people to join this, do you have a list of banned bands or something we can use as reference as to what you like?
-
18-second ninja'd like a pro :lol
I dunno who you are so /in
Allow me to allow you to hate me
-
So, while we wait for more people to join this, do you have a list of banned bands or something we can use as reference as to what you like?
Look at your music library- that's the banned list.
-
Let's play :hat .
-
ONE MORE SPOT
-
Knock, knock.
I'm your huckleberry.
-
Alright, I posted the banned list in the OP. Everything is set to go, and we will go ahead and begin.
Round 1 will last a whole week, (is that too long or too short? Y'all give me some pointers and tips if necessary, this is my first roulette and need a feel for things) so whenever you guys get ready just send me a PM with your song choice.
Also, keep in mind that there are no themes and every round is open. So there's going to be a lot for you guys to choose from, no limits!
-
Well, 8 rounds with each round lasting a week is a kind of standard timing. It's recommended to wrap up the roulette in two months, and this schedule allows you to do exactly that.
Seems I'm a bit too late to play, but I'll follow.

Sweet
And sorry about that, if I do a future roulette, I'll probably add a few more contestants. I'll just see how things go this time around.
-
Alright. I'll send tonight!
-
That's a great list! Will send soon.
-
Sent!
-
gotta enter this band before they get sniped by someone else, then
also curious as to what Pain of Salvation you've listened to, for... reasons :hat
edit: hot damn, did I just notice an omission on the banned list that I actually mentally skipped going through my music list because I assumed it would be there. someone better plug that hole before this roulette ends :lol
-
I hope it's not Symphony X ::)
Just kidding. And I've listened to a few songs from various albums from PoS, but not enough to really remember anything.
-
Sent. This song has given me either 8s and 9s, or 3s and 4s in previous roulettes :lol.
-
Sent!
-
I've now received everyone's entry for Round 1 and I'm already listening. Thank you guys! I'll have the results in next Wednesday!
-
One of my fellow contestants mentioned maybe I could make the rounds shorter, and I agree with that. It's not going to take me a whole week to listen to all these songs and form a good opinion on them. I have a good bit of free time and as long as you guys don't mind I can always end this round sooner. Let me know what you think.
-
End the round when you feel the round's over and you have good opinions on all the songs, sticking to a set timeframe is entirely unnecessary :P
-
Sounds good, thanks for the feedback :)
-
Parama knows what's up. :tup
-
Alright with that being said I'll do 1 round per month.
-
:lol
The anticipation would kill me.
-
Was following - now..............

-
So, when can we expect results now?
-
Probably sometime over the weekend. I've been so busy watching college basketball today but I've taken the time to listen to most of the songs already. I will have a lot of free time coming up.
-
Results nao FUCKER!!!
-
Coming shortly.
-
9.5/10 tbh :hat
-
I knocked up a chick when this round started. I'm already a grandpa now. GREAT JOB, LÜK!!!!!

Round 1 Results
#8(1 Point): Nekov – “Welcome to Nowhere” - Frost*
I feel bad for putting this one last because I still thought it was a good song, it just didn’t quite hit me like the others did. This is a band I’ve been meaning to check out for a while and still really plan to. I’m pretty sure I’ve heard a song or two from them before, and I remember liking one of those a lot. I’m still willing to give this band a lot of listens, maybe this just wasn’t the most compatible song. I just didn’t feel that there was much about this one that really stood out. Still though, it was a good song, and thanks for the submission! Honestly, this probably could have received a 7 on a scale that’s 1-10, but I like the ranking idea better because I feel it makes it more challenging for the person submitting the song and me as well. Plus, I like ranking things.
#7(2 Points): kingshmegland – “Life Simulator” – Slow Motion Reign
I like this one. I’m a big fan of the vocal melodies and the whole song kind of has an eerie feeling to it. It’s got somewhat of a dreamy atmosphere as well, which made it really enjoyable. I really don’t have a lot to say about this one except that it’s a good song but I found most of the other ones just even more enjoyable. Good song choice!
#6(3 Points): Scorpion – “Glory Box” – Portishead
You and senecadawg probably had the most unique entries out of all, for obvious reasons. This one is really slow and laid back, and I swear I’ve heard this on some kind of movie before, like a final scene or something. It’s a good song and her vocals are great. It makes me want to walk through a desert with a cool ass camel and a socket wrench in my left hand.
#5(4 Points): Parama – “Carnival” – Thank You Scientist
When first listening to this, a more progressive Coheed and Cambria came to mind. It’s a really fun tune and I like all the different instruments used in the making of this. The only thing is, I can’t really listen to this so much without thinking of Coheed and Cambria. The music is somewhat similar I feel, but it’s really just the vocals. Just not quite as high as Claudio’s. This isn’t a bad thing, but it feels like something I’ve heard already. Still though, the song is really good!
#4(5 Points): Elite – “The Doorway” – Spock’s Beard
Spock’s Beard is a band I tried checking out about a year ago, but just never got around to it. After listening to a handful of songs, I stopped and just never came back. The Doorway is definitely the longest of the submissions, but that’s to be expected when Neal Morse is involved. I really dig the piano intro and despite being 11 minutes, it’s not as proggy as expected. It’s fairly straightforward in my opinion, which is a nice change of pace from other Neal Morse stuff I’ve heard before. My favorite part of the song is the last minute and a half or so, and the guitar work is admirable throughout the whole song. Great submission!
#3(6 Points): black_floyd – “Muttersprache” – Gordian Knot
This one would have ranked lower earlier, but now it has found its way up to third place. I was expecting something just like Liquid Tension Experiment, but I feel this song has its own identity. It doesn’t feel like a bunch of recycled instrumental passages, it’s got a fresh feeling to it. It’s constantly changing and the middle section of the song is simply beautiful. I certainly wasn’t expecting it to have much emotional appeal to it and was thinking it was just going to be more by the book, but you surprised me with a really good song. Thanks!
#2(7 Points): Sacul – “Where is Now?” – David Maxim Micic
Wow, what a song! This one hooked me right from the beginning with the beautiful piano intro. I’ve seen you mention this guy before but I never really gave it too much thought about checking him out for some reason. I’m not sure why I did that. This felt very original, and while the riffs early in the song have that “djenty” feel (a word I seldom use) to them, it feels unique and exciting with all the other stuff going on during these parts. I absolutely love the part where it steps up to a heavier level. I don’t know what to call it but his “mouth solo” is pretty fucking great. This song is wonderful and it hit me in the most perfect way possible. But how could it not be ranked #1?
#1(8 Points): senecadawg2 – “Dona Nobis Pacem 2”- Max Richter (The Leftovers)
As much as I’ve enjoyed every song submitted, this one takes the cake. Maybe I’ve just got a soft spot for soundtracks because this one makes me feel emotional and I haven’t even seen the show yet. I love how the song starts out really quiet and gradually builds up over the course. I love love love the strings in this piece, as you probably would have predicted. This is one of those pieces where I can just lie here and close my eyes and really feel something. My only complaint is that it ends before I know it. This one is great and it’s the number one song of the first round for me!
All these songs ranged from good to very good, to great, to fantastic. Thank you all!
You can go ahead and send me the songs for the next round if you're ready!
Standings after Round 1:
1. senecadawg2 - (8 Points)
2. Sacul - (7 Points)
3. black_floyd - (6 Points)
4. Elite - (5 Points)
5. Parama - (4 Points)
6. Scorpion - (3 Points)
7. kingshmegland - (2 Points)
8. Nekov - (1 Point)

I like ranking things.
I feel ya bro.
Sending another song in then, yes.
EDIT: so I'm trying to pick out one song from the oh-my-god-how-are-you-not-aware-of-this-yet artist but it's tough
-
Yeah my list is pretty small. I didn't really get serious in listening to music until a few years ago.
-
Great! David is all kinds of awesome, my fav djent artists.
By the way, is there a rule about repeating bands on future rounds?
-
Great! David is all kinds of awesome, my fav djent artists.
By the way, is there a rule about repeating bands on future rounds?
Hmm.. yeah let's try to keep it to no repeats so we can have as much variety as possible! :metal
-
I've received 5 entries for round 2 so far. I still need them from Elite, Nekov, and Sacul. Since I had originally planned to spend one week each round, it will be completely fine if I don't get the songs today or tomorrow. We are ahead of schedule anyway but it sounds like most people would like a somewhat speedy roulette, which is fine by me. So there's no rush at all, just letting you all know :)
-
Well that sucks.....
Sent round 2

Sent.

Liking the variety of these entries!
Results will come at a later time.
-
I've listened to each song numerous times and I'm already getting these results ready. Anyone interested?
Also, this round is even stronger than the first round. :tup

Round 2 Results:
#8(1 Point): Scorpion – “The Transfiguration Fear” – Sigh
You were right: the vocals just do not do it for me. I don’t hate them, but I think I’d enjoy this song more if it was instrumental. I still like the song, but the vocals bring it down for me and unfortunately puts it at last place. Still, the guitar work in this song is badass. The latter half of the song is the best, probably because it’s more focused on the instruments, and the solos are very cool. Harsh vocals are really hit or miss with me, and I can never explain why I like/dislike them. Send me as many sad pandas as needed! :sadpanda: :sadpanda:
#7(2 Points): Elite – “Dark Water” – Agent Fresco
This is a neat little song, kind of reminds me of Haken going in a poppy direction, in a good way. It’s got a good vibe and that piano break near the end is superb. I really like the vocalist, that’s why I said it reminded me of Haken a little bit. I’ve never even heard this band before but I’m definitely going to check more of their stuff out!
#6(3 Points): senecadawg2 – “9 Crimes” – Damien Rice
Ah, Seneca, yet another slower emotional song. This time, it’s not at the top, but it’s nice, sweet song. I get this feeling you may have sent me this a long time ago, because it sounds a little bit familiar. I don’t remember well, though. I enjoy the dual vocals from both Damien and whoever the chick is. This one didn’t really get to me as much as I thought it would, but it’s still a beautiful song. Thanks bro.
#5(4 Points): black_floyd – “Ancestry of the Antichrist” - Byzantine
Ah, floydy, yet another… wait. No.
I like this one. The harsh vocals in this song actually really click with me, and I remember hearing something from them before, maybe from you, and I really enjoyed it as well. As much as I like the heavy parts, I like the “Atonement”-esque section in the middle, and the following guitar solo is sick as hell. This band really knows how to be METAL. And that’s a good thing. Whoever the guitarist is, well, he’s great. Thanks, this one is kick ass.
#4(5 Points): Sacul – “Sowing Season” – Brand New
This is one big band and album I really need to check out. I tried it one time a while back but didn’t remember anything about it. This song shows some real emotion for sure, even if I haven’t studied the lyrics. The mood of this song is really dark, especially when he starts yelling. I’m definitely going to be spinning this album ASAP because this first song has me amazed and hooked. Thank you dude!
#3(6 Points): kingshmegland – “The End is Beautiful” – Echolyn
This song actually caught me off guard, it sounded pretty weird at first but it only got better as it went! I’ve never even heard of this band, but they definitely have me intrigued now. I love the “Drive in circles, wait for the words” section as I think the vocals in this song are fantastic. I can’t really describe why I like this song so much, maybe that it feels so original and fresh. Awesome tune!
#2(7 Points): Parama – “Amazing Flight” – Ayreon
Holy shit, very unexpected. I didn’t even think much when I saw the artist you sent because I knew they were a popular progressive metal band on here, a genre I’m ironically not so fond of. I really need to stop that shit. This doesn’t sound like any progressive metal I’ve heard. It’s almost got a bluesy feel at the intro, and it’s really groovy. For a second I was waiting for Stevie Ray Vaughan to jump on in with a solo. My favorite part is probably the solos at the end with the incorporation of the flute, it’s so sweet.
#1(8 Points): Nekov – “Summer’s Glory” – Alcest
Damn dude, first round you finish last and this round you finish first! What’s your secret? Inconsistency, probably. Nah, this song is honestly my favorite of all of them so far, including round 1. This song is pure beauty, from start to finish. My friend and I were actually wanting to write and play some music and this is the style of music I’d probably love to play most. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this track, and you did a fine job of picking it. I was listening to all these songs while driving home today and this one just stood out on its own. I could have this on repeat and I probably wouldn’t get tired of it. Thanks so much for this, I haven’t heard something this nice in a long time.
Current Standings:
1. Sacul - (12 Points)
2. senecadawg2 - (11 Points)
2. Parama - (11 Points)
4. black_floyd - (10 Points)
5. Nekov - (9 Points)
6. kingshmegland - (8 Points)
7. Elite - (7 Points)
8. Scorpion - (4 Points)
-
Oh and sorry for my short write ups. I'm a terrible writer and I'm much better at getting my point across through words. :lol
-
Great! I think the best way to connect with that Brand New album is through the lyrics - I'm sure you'll identify with them. And once you do it, it will destroy your soul.
Wait, you never listened to Ayreon? I'm disappoint :lol . But thanks Parama for fixing it. You should also check The Human Equation - Arjen's masterpiece.
-
Yes I'm an ignorant noob :tup
-
Yeah, The Human Equation is probably the best Ayreon album, but the single songs off Into The Electric Castle work better out of context, and also are generally better than the best The Human Equation songs. Arjen totally does the Progressive Metal thing some but Ayreon's a lot more than that. And Ayreon is only one of his projects, there's also Star One, Ambeon, his solo albums, Guilt Machine, The Gentle Storm (literally out today I think :lol ) and probably more I don't even remember.
though I'm tempted to send more prog metal just to see what happens now :lol
-
It seems inconsistency is my thing lately in roulettes :lol
Joking aside, I'm glad you enjoyed the song so much and as you say, it's beautiful and near perfect
-
And sent
-
:(
-
Why do I feel like some kind of dick when peoples' songs rank low :lol
-
Because that song is worth far more than two points in any roulette :lol
-
NOT MINE.
Hey... you could be Scorpion. ::) ;D
-
No, I couldn't be
-
Oh shit..
-
Sended.
-
Yo Biz! Can't you just hear the guy driving around in his car trying to figure out how to break it off with the girl?! I just loved how they got that across in the music and lyrics.
-

Yeah man it was awesome, really appreciate it :)
Oh and from now on, I'll send everyone PM's when I post results and update the thread title.
-
I just got into them with their self titles 2012 album. Believe it or not that 2005 album was the one before it. :lol They took quite the time off. They have a new album coming out sometime this year.
-
Awesome, I'll definitely check it out :tup

crai evertim

I know how you feel Scorp. The Biscuit works in mysterious ways. Mysterious and, quite often, nonsensical ways.
-
I've received 6 of the 8 submissions. Still waiting on king and Elite :)
-
Sorry! Been a little busy. I'll send tonight!
-
No rush! I haven't listened to any yet, busy week!

No Rush?!

Y'all are some fucking impatient ass people. My god.
Jk. Here we go.
Round 3 Results:
#8(1 Point): black_floyd – “Insect” – Spiral Architect
Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to get into anything by this band. This isn’t terrible, I’d still give it a 6/10. It just feels kinda disjointed to me, and I’m not too big on the vocalist. They are damn good at their instruments though. I see why you like this album so much, I just wish I could as well. Thanks for the song though!
#7(2 Points): kingshmegland – “The Caudal Lure” – Karnivool
This has been a very tough round to rank, and this is a very good song, I just happened to like 6 more songs better. I’m still gonna try and get into this band, this song was rocking, I liked it a lot. Don’t know if you’ve listened to Chevelle at all, but it kinda reminded me of a more progressive version of them, which I think is cool. Nice riffs and the vocalist is good. Cool song!
#6(3 Points): Sacul – “Building Steam with a Grain of Salt” - DJ Shadow
Cool song, I feel like I’ve heard this before, especially the piano melody that is played throughout. So far I’m liking the variety you’ve sent me, you’ve done well Sacul. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to rank this any higher. But I like how laid back it feels and the funky section in the middle is too cool. Plus, I always thought the use of samples in songs was a neat thing, and it really works well with this one. Nice!
#5(4 Points): Nekov – “Heaven Alive” – Oceansize
I’ve never listened to them, but I’ve heard their name tossed around quite a few times on the forum. Is this that band that Zantera is in love with? That might be where I heard them from. I like it, this band plays really tight and this song is kickass. Everything about this song is awesome, especially the vocals. I’ll be sure to check more of them out, I bet they have a lot of other great material. Thanks for the rec!
#4(5 Points): Scorpion – “Death is the Road to Awe” – Clint Mansell (The Fountain)
Beautiful! You knew something like this would rank pretty high on here, but why is it not at the top? Because you’re Scorpion, and that’s not allowed. Just kidding, there was just a lot of tough ass competition this round, but this is a beautiful track. Seneca actually sent me this about a year ago, so good job on this one. I feel like this would have ranked higher on another round, but 5 points ain’t so bad. I also need to see this movie, I hear it’s great. There’s a ton of emotion in this piece, it’s epic!
#3(6 Points): senecadawg2 – “Slow Show” – The National
Now I know why my friend Cody loves this band so much! This song was so beautiful. These last 3 ranks were so hard to figure out, it was almost a tie between this one and the next two. As much as I like the low nearly monotonous vocals, the guitar playing in this song is great. I adore the melody and this song puts me in a really good mood. Can’t wait to hear more.
#2(7 Points): Parama – “City Has No Empathy (Your Sentimental Lie)" - Caligula's Horse
What a badass song. Seriously. The chorus is perfect. I love the breakdown near the end. Fuck this city. That is all.
#1(8 Points): Elite – “Where Everything’s Perfect” – Jolly
YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!! The children know what’s up. This song is my favorite of Round 3, and it was close. Very unique and original. Out of all the songs, I listened to this one over and over. I couldn’t get enough of it, and it’s awesome. Haunting and cheerful at the same time, something like that is pretty hard to pull off. It’s funny I typed in Jolly on Spotify and some Spanish dude or something of the like showed up, and it was like some trance pop shit :lol
Current Standings:
1. Parama (18 Points)
2. senecadawg2 (17 Points)
3. Elite (15 Points)
3. Sacul (15 Points)
5. Nekov (13 Points)
6. black_floyd (11 Points)
7. kingshmegland (10 Points)
8. Scorpion (9 Points)

anyways sending song thing now
EDIT: BTW you got the song/artist wrong on the results, the artist is Caligula's Horse and the song name is The City Has No Empathy (Your Sentimental Lie) :lol

AHHHHHHH I STILL NEED TO SEND WILL DO SO IMMEDIATELY
-
Still waiting on Elite but I've listened to all songs except Scorp's
-
Well, I sent the best song anyway
-
well let's see though
my favorite of all the songs I've sent thus far (including round 4) is the one that ranked the lowest out of the first three, and my entry this round is my least favorite or tied for my least favorite about with Amazing Flight, so it has a chance of being #1 in this round by my reverse-o-fake logic, yes
(granted I refuse to send anything less than an 8.5/10 by my own scale so I still love every song I've sent :lol)

This dude. Weird taste and shit.

Man, if this thing was in reverse, you’d be winning this whole contest right now. Sorry man, this one doesn’t do a whole lot for me. I believe you sent me something else from them that I liked better. It just doesn’t hold up to the other songs in this round. Sad Pandas Galore!
#7(2 Points): Parama – “Judas Unrepentant” – Big Big Train
Cool song, I like the chorus a lot. Other than that, I can’t rank it much higher. They almost sound like Transatlantic in a way, but that’s a good thing. I’m not sure if they have any affiliation with them or not.
#6(3 Points): black_floyd – “Body Destroyed, Brain Intact” – Dysrhythmia
I like this jam, really fun and exciting listen. A lot of time changes, and badass riffs. I really like the drums in this one, constantly changing and a fuck ton of tom fills. Awesome. I like it better than Enigma Machine… that’s fo sho.
#5(4 Points): Elite – “Lost” – Voyager
This one rocks, and I’m surprised I haven’t heard them before. Definitely going on my never ending list of bands I need to check out. I like the guitar tones in this song, and the atmosphere makes me feel like I’m in space or something. Pretty damn sweet.
#4(5 Points) – Nekov – “Autumn Moonlight, Pt.1” – Autumn Moonlight
This is beautiful, really straight-forward, simple beauty. I always appreciate stuff like this because it’s not so much stuff you have to focus and figure out what they are playing, you just sit back and passively listen. Makes for good study music and relaxing.
#3(6 Points) – kinghsmegland – “Mantis” – Umphrey’s McGee
You always find stuff that I never even dreamed of hearing of. Never in my life would I have thought I’d listen to a band called Umphrey’s McGee. But hey, I just did. Really proggy, love it. There are some amazing solos in this song, especially at the end. This song goes through a lot of changes, yet it feels really cohesive and flows well. The vocals sounded a bit weird to me at first, but after several listens, I got to really liking them a lot.
#2(7 Points) – Sacul – “Cold Front” – Hammock
This is definitely some beautiful stuff, listening to this one as you’re falling asleep is an incredible feeling. I love stuff like this: atmospheric, simple, beautiful. I’ve been listening to a lot of Storm Corrosion lately and listening to songs like this, and Ljudet Innan, just makes me feel really good. It clears my mind and I just let the music enter.
#1(8 Points) – senecadawg2 – “Cold” – Lunatic Soul
I find it a bit funny that two songs in this round have “Cold” in their title and they both placed highest. This song is so chill, and cold. I get an OSI vibe while listening but it sounds completely refreshing. The vocals are really soothing and beautiful. My favorite part of this song is the atmosphere. I really love when a song title is so accurately represented in the song itself. This song makes me feel like I’d be in an igloo. Nice pick, and that gets you 8 points yet again.
Current Standings:
1. senecadawg2 (25 Points)
2. Sacul (22 Points)
3. Parama (20 Points)
4. Elite (19 Points)
5. Nekov (18 Points)
6. kingshmegland (16 Points)
7. black_floyd (14 Points)
8. Scorpion (10 Points)

God. Fucking. Damn. It.
-
I should have sent something else from that album. 'Lost' is probably in the bottom half of that album for me :lol
-
Yay! That is the opener to one of my fav post-rock albums ever - never pretentious with endless crescendos, just beautiful, calm music.
Damn you seneca, stop sending awesome stuff so I can win a roulette :lol .
-
Hammock is great <3
Departure Songs is one of my favorite sleeping albums 'cause it's such a pleasant listen.
Also ohhh well I tried :lol
And no affiliation with Transatlantic at all, no :lol
Sending a song-thing, then, yes.
-
Hammock is great <3
Agreed, I was saving them for later :getoffmylawn:

You're sending awesome stuff too- Hammock really is good!
As is Voyager. Good call Elite- while I wouldn't have sent that specific song, I'm glad you went for it.
And Dysrhythmia too, Josh. I went to see them with my girlfriend about a year ago. She fell asleep :lol
-
i am saving a post-rockish song for the last round so that i easily win the last round and get like 20 points from BIZKIT because the song is so good
until then i'm gonna try less-standard entries
-
And Dysrhythmia too, Josh. I went to see them with my girlfriend about a year ago. She fell asleep :lol
Maybe she passed out from a heart arrhythmia.
-
:lol
Damn you folks. More songs to check out for myself.
Biz, I'll try to find the bands you never thought of listening too. I have so many. :lol
-
It's been real fun so far, discovered a lot of great music. Halfway through!
Will Seneca pull away, or will Sacul, Parama, and Co. be able to claim a lead?
Also, what is going on with Scorpion? Is he doing this on purpose?!?!!?
-
fuck you

Yes you have. It's all your fault.

Round 5 Results:
#8(1 Point): black_floyd – “Inside” – Pain of Salvation
I don’t know, I just cannot get into them. They get so much love on this forum but I have yet to really get into them. Everything I’ve heard from them is just kinda meh to me. I’m still going to give them a chance, though. I’ll give The Perfect Element a listen sometime. The music just doesn’t do much for me, and the vocals surely don’t. Gildenlow just isn’t my cup of tea I guess.
#7(2 Points): senecadawg2 – “Smoke and Mirrors” – Gotye
Not bad, I feel like it’s just a little long for its own good. Not much I can really say about this one except that it just didn’t wow me. Maybe it’s just the song. It’s got a good sound to it but I’ll check the other stuff from Gotye and see what I can find.
#6(3 Points): Elite – “Tabula Rasa” – Soen
Same, as it didn’t really do much for me. It’s got a cool sound and the vocals are nice. I like the Opethy riff around 2:00 though, that’s pretty sick. Still, a good song, and the album art is really neat.
#5(4 Points): Scorpion – “Fishies” – The Cat Empire
Haha, this one is funny. Especially since I’ve been fishing a lot lately, even though this song isn’t really about fishing. I dig the trumpet, it’s what makes the song.
#4(5 Points): Sacul – “Raver” – Burial
You were right, this is a good song to listen to at night, and in fact, I did it while I was driving back to my apartment. It’s chill, very laid back and it’s got a good beat. This stuff is nice to listen to every once in a while. I like what you’ve been sending me so far. Keep it up!
#3(6 Points): Parama – “Buzzcut Season” – Lorde
Risky, yes. It sure paid off though, I think. You were expecting last and you were far from it. I’ve heard a few tracks from this album, such as “Royals” and “Team”. I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve heard from her, and this song impresses me as well. She can really sing and I love how her songs sound, as they can really breathe. Good choice!
#2(7 Points): Nekov – “Naïve” – Demians
This song is great. The guitar tones, the vocals, everything just works so well. There’s nothing really fancy about this song, but it just has really good melodies, and it’s catchy. Never even heard of them either, so this is cool!
#1(8 Points): kingshmegland – “More of a Climb, Less of a Walk” – This Day & Age
Kinda like Nekov’s song, nothing over the top, but it just has some great melodies. I love the vocalist, he’s got a wonderful voice. And once again, I don’t think I’ve heard of any of the bands you’ve shown me so far, except maybe Karnivool :lol. This song is beautiful, love the atmosphere. Good driving song, too.
Current Standings:
1. senecadawg2 (27 Points)
1. Sacul (27 Points)
3. Parama (26 Points)
4. Nekov (25 Points)
5. kingshmegland (24 Points)
6. Elite (22 Points)
7. black_floyd (15 Points)
8. Scorpion (14 Points)
-
This is very close right now. The top 5 can really change at any moment. Elite isn't far behind either. black_floyd and Scorpion are doing their own battle :lol :tup
-
I wonder what unheard band I can send next! :lol
Woot!!! :lol
-
That's a tough top 5 indeed :lol .
You'll dig that Burial album - that's one of the few cases when electronic music gets really emotional. The atmosphere gets you lost in it, wondering when a song starts and ends ;) .
-
Oh yeah, for sure :)
-
My goal: beat floyd.
-
That's exactly my thought on that song, nothing flashy because there's no need for it
And as I said in my message, thanks to King since he introduced me to this band :tup
-
That's right! I forgot! BTW, I still haven't picked up the new Demians album yet!
-
My goal: beat floyd.
#beat_floyd
-
My goal: beat floyd.
One more round will probably make this a reality.
-
k, that works
off her album the other ones I really like are A World Alone and Bravado (and Team is great too)
Swingin' Party and Everybody Wants To Rule The World are both great covers too
I'll send when I get home :lol
re: PoS entry: Not the absolute best entry from them but yeah they're probably not your cup of tea if you don't like Inside :lol
Idioglossia will always be a top 5 song (of all time) for me though
-
That's right! I forgot! BTW, I still haven't picked up the new Demians album yet!
It was disappointing for me TBH but give it a try, maybe you'll like it

That's fine. More importantly though...
Why are you back in school in June?

Round 6 Results:
#8(1 Point): Nekov - "Faded Photographs" - Von Hertzen Brothers
Decent song, just didn't really do anything for me. I listened to it a good bit, just waiting for it to click and nothing really happened. Still not bad though.
#7(2 Points): senecadawg2 - "The Weight of Loss is Whole" - Braveyoung
Didn't do a whole lot for me. It's definitely something good to listen to on a rainy day, which is how it has been over here. I don't know, it just didn't hit me in anyway, nice composition but it was just a little dull sounding to me.
#6(3 Points): Sacul - "Bullits Dominae" - Pure Reason Revolution
Like the others, still didn't do much for me, but I liked this one better. Not a whole lot I can say about it, but the electronic influences were pretty cool early on.
#5(4 Points): Elite - "Dance of the Manatee" - Fair to Midland
There were things about this song I really liked, and things I didn't care for. The chorus and most of the vocals were awesome, but I thought the "Bigger they are the harder they fall" vocal section was a bit weird. FTM is a band I've been meaning to check out sometime, I'm pretty intrigued.
#4(5 Points): Scorpion - "Hills of Eternity" - Buckethead
Ah, good old Buckethead. I've only listened to a handful of his songs, but never anything really chill like this one. This was very good, just simple and effective. I completely forgot Buckethead existed, but this makes me interested to listen to his stuff again, I've never heard this side of him before. :chill
#3(6 Points): black_floyd - "Vow" - Garbage
Went into this song thinking I wouldn't care too much for it. This was actually really good, as it actually didn't sound like garbage. I just love the '90s sound of this song. I've heard a song or two of the 2000s Garbage but this is so much better. Love the vocalist.
#2(7 Points): Parama - "The Road of Bones" - IQ
Wow, I've never heard anything like this before. This was awesome. It's so chill and beautiful at the same time. This song has a wonderful atmosphere, and I love when the drums kick in. The bass line so sweet, and the blocks (or whatever they are) just makes this song even cooler. I love the end too when it really all kicks in, it's pretty epic.
#1(8 Points): kingshmegland - "Dead Trees" - Anubis
Beautiful. Fun. Awesome. Once again, you find the best song of the round. The vocals are my favorite part of the song. It's such a catchy song, and makes a great driving tune. The lyrics are really good too. Oh and guess what? Never heard of this band. The chorus is wonderful and I've played this one so many times, I can't get enough of it.
Oh what a change in the standings!
Current Standings:
1. Parama (33 Points)
2. kingshmegland (32 Points)
3. Sacul (30 Points)
4. senecadawg2 (29 Points)
5. Nekov (26 Points)
5. Elite (26 Points)

Holy Jenkies!

Now that's a change :lol .
Anyways, enough of risky choices - time to bring my secret weapons.
-
i was giggling so hard when i posted this in Elite's thread
And The Road Of Bones is probably the IQ song I'd have sent too since I've listened to all of one of their albums and that one's my favorite off the album. Great song too :lol
anyways one entry that's a bit more out there then round 8 which is the only acceptable time to send one of my top 5 songs of all time yay last place here i come

I'm just eager for round 8 in which I get to actually place 1st for once because i'm entering one of the best songs there ever has been, you might as well all enter really sucky stuff 'cause it won't matter :hat
and if bizkit doesn't like it i'll have to have him assassinated

:azn:
THAT DOESN'T TELL ME WHEN I'LL GET MY RESULTS >:( .
Would you kindly? :)

He would then be a Limp Bizkit.

Round 7 Results:
#8(1 Point): kinghsmegland - "Sorrow" - Aisles
Sorry pal, your streak has come to an end. Musically, this one is pretty good, but the vocals just didn't fit right with me. I'll still check out the other stuff on this album though.
#7(2 Points): Nekov - "Lucifer's Lament" - Nightingale
Had too much of a modern radio rock feel to me for some reason, and nothing really stood out to me, unfortunately.
#6(3 Points): Scorpion - "Falling Further" - Fate's Warning
I'm assuming this is the band that Jim Matheos is in right? I like his work in OSI, for sure. So that's a plus. OKAY DAMN. The song was good. Still not really up my alley but there wasn't anything wrong with this song.
#5(4 Points): Parama - "Under the Pines" - Bodies of Water
Cool song, it's got a nice indie sound to it. I shall use this song when I'm exploring the lake.
#4(5 Points): senecadawg2 - "Song for a Dead Friend" - Kevin Gilbert
Pretty beautiful song, and I would probably rank it higher if I was in a really emotional mood. The lyrics are nice, very sad. :metal
#3(6 Points): Elite - "Daedalus" - Thrice
Awesome! My buddy Matthew likes Thrice and he told me to get into them, this song serves as a good starting point I think. Very nice atmsophere.
#2(7 Points): black_floyd - "I Ain't Trippin'" - Too $hort
THIS SONG GOES HARD MANE. But forreal, this is actually pretty slick. I kinda laughed when I first listen to it, but to me it sounds like the rap you'd listen to then shuffling a deck of cards or peeling a banana. Just a chill phase. I like his little line: Oakland Californ I A. Thanks for sending me something like this and not that radio friendly shit rap that comes on today.
#1(8 Points): Sacul - "Cold War" - Janelle Monáe
What an awesome song. On the first listen I just knew that this was gonna be repeated a lot. It's just a fun and cheerful song, and I guess that replicates my mood as of late, so this one worked out really well for you! She's got a good voice. :tup
Current Standings:
1. Sacul (38 Points)
2. Parama (37 Points)
3. senecadawg2 (34 Points)
4. kingshmegland (33 Points)
5. Elite (32 Points)
6. black_floyd (28 Points)
6. Nekov (28 Points)
8. Scorpion (22 Points)
-
CRRRRAAAPPPP!!! :lol
Have to hit a home run in the 9th!
-
It's looking like the top 5 still might be in it.
Sacul and Parama are battling it out at the top but seneca and king are waiting to push ahead to first as well. Then there's Elite, the dark horse :tup
Nekov lets floyd catch up to him as they discuss why they don't want to be placed next to Scorpion.
I mean who would wanna be placed next to Scorpion? :lol
-
CRRRRAAAPPPP!!! :lol
Have to hit a home run in the 9th!
Good luck with that.
Accept it- we've already lost.

That's a pretty good Thrice entry that I can't be unhappy about :heart
anyways sending in the best song of the entire roulette, gg
-
anyways sending in the best song of the entire roulette, gg
That will be mine, dear ;) .
Knew you'd love that song - the whole album is probably the funniest, most entertaining record I know. Who would have guessed R&B could still kick so many asses.
-
nope sorry
unless you send in the exact same song
which is possible i guess but unlikely
off the top of my head there are exactly two other songs in the same league as this song (and amusingly both the other two are by bands sent earlier in this survivor :lol )

Here's what Parama sent.

fwiw Never Enough *is* in my DT top 50, if you want to make a joke involving DT songs try Build Me Up, Break Me Down 'cause that's their worst by a country mile :lol
on a side note the other two songs in the same league are Oceansize - The Frame and Pain of Salvation - Idioglossia
you should listen to and adore both

Okay, will do.

thus far i have
1. gone on youtube and listened to one version of the song to make sure it was good enough audio quality
2. listened to another version just to make sure there wasn't a better one after already sending the song
3. finding a tab for the song and playing it all the way through
4. am now listening again to the mp3 of the song i have
i lvoe this song dear god

I, for one, think your song is shit. Only, less interesting than most of my shit. And the vocalist sounds like a child.

that's fantastic

It's actually a good song. Ah well...

on a side note the other two songs in the same league are Oceansize - The Frame and Pain of Salvation - Idioglossia
you should listen to and adore both
Idioglossia isn't even the best song on TPE, let alone PoS's best song. The Frame also isn't my favourite Oceansize track, but I'm not too familiar with the band.
-
too bad those are my favorites :lol

Also BIZKIT! Stop talking to me. Your voice is annoying.

Round 8 Results:
#8(1 Point): Elite - "I Am" - Theocracy
Not bad, but it just didn't do much for me at all. There were some kick ass riffs here and there, but the vocals weren't my cup of tea, and it was a little too long for its own good. I just can't seem to get into a lot of prog metal. :-\
#7(2 Points): Sacul - "Becoming Insane" - Infected Mushroom
Cool, but still not up my alley. I would have probably ranked this higher if it were instrumental, honestly. It's got a fun rhythm to it and I can see it being a cool party song, but that's about it for me
#6(3 Points): Scorpion - "Come Hell or High Water" - Native Construct
This one was pretty cool. I really dig the parts with harsh vocals and the very proggy instrumental parts. This was a fun listen and I look forward to checking this band out. Cool orchestra sounds too :metal
#5(4 Points): senecadawg2 - "Spanish Sahara" - Foals
I really like the atmosphere of this one. I like the gradual build up, and the video for this one was pretty sweet. It kinda makes me feel like I'm underwater or something. Will be listening to this as I fall asleep tonight.
#4(5 Points): kingshmegland - "Barfly" - Moon Safari
This one reminded me so much of Transatlantic, but in a good way. I love the magical solo around two and a half minutes, and all in all, this one was a pretty song. I also love the beginning and ending riff of the song, it's kick ass! Oh, and yeah, never heard of them :lol
#3(6 Points): Nekov - "Your Hand In Mine" - Explosions in the Sky
I've listened to this band before, but not much. It's a beautiful song, but I like some of the other post rockish entries better. This one is still beautiful for sure. It's such a cool genre, how gorgeous and relaxing it can be. Definitely going to be listening to more of them.
#2(7 Points): black_floyd - "Firestarter" - The Prodigy
This song is awesome. Sounds like a boss battle for a video game. It sounds so familiar, I swear. This was a fun one to drive to, and the vocals are pretty interesting. Fyuh Stotta! This sounds like soundtrack material for a Fast and Furious movie too.
#1(8 Points): Parama - "Comforting Sounds" - Mew
Hell, like there was any contest. This is not only by far the best entry of this round, but easily the best entry of this entire roulette. No wonder you were saving this one for last. It's incredible. Despite what seneca says, this song is great. I love the vocalist, as you can really hear the emotion in the voice. The instrumental section till the end of the song is some of the best music I have heard in my entire life. I looked up the meaning of the song, and it just made it that much more enjoyable. Not a lot of songs can make me feel extremely emotional, but this one sure as hell did. I've listened to this at least 20 times already. And with this perfect entry, you've won my roulette :azn:
Final Standings:
1. Parama (45 Points)
2. Sacul (40 Points)
3. senecadawg2 (38 Points)
3. kingshmegland (38 Points)
5. black_floyd (35 Points)
6. Nekov (34 Points)
7. Elite (33 Points)
8. Scorpion (25 Points)
