Album of the Year 1984 - nomination phase
« on: July 24, 2011, 09:07:08 AM »
Rules:
-Post your 5 favorite albums from 1984; the order does not matter.  If you only like less than 5, list those.  Just no more than 5.
-List the band name first and then the album name.  Like this: Band name - Album name
-If you change your mind, edit your original post.  Do not post them again.
-Only studio and live albums will be counted; no best of, compilations, etc.
-Posts that you do not follow these rules will not be counted.

Nomination phase will last two days.

Prince and the Revolution - Purple Rain
Rush - Grace Under Pressure
U2 - The Unforgettable Fire
Van Halen - 1984
The Cars - Heartbeat City

Tough leaving off:

Metallica - Ride the Lightning (this will get more than enough votes from others)
Bruce Springsteen - Born in the U.S.A.
Judas Priest - Defenders of the Faith (same logic as Metallica)
Triumph - Thunder Seven
SRV - Couldn't Stand the Weather

This is gonna be a toughie.

Judas Priest- Defenders Of The Faith
Survivor- Vital Signs (greatest AOR album ever IMO)
Yngwie Malmsteen- Rising force
Rush- Grace Under Pressure
Queensryche- The Warning

It's pained me to leave these albums out. Any of them could be in my top 5 for the year really- a great year- but it's going to be like this from now on. These were my formative years in music- a golden age. The 90s were a non-entity.

DIO- The Last In Line
Deep Purple- Perfect Strangers
Iron Maiden- Powerslave
Gary Moore- We Want Moore
Y&T- In Rock WE Trust
KISS- Animalize
Foreigner- Agent Provocateur
Bryan Adams- Reckless (Remember when BA rocked?)
Bon Jovi- ST
Van Halen- 1984
whitesnake- Slide It In
europe- Wings of Tomorrow
manOwar- Hail To England and Sign Of The hammer
Scorpions- Love At First Sting
W.A.S.P.- ST

One weird note.  1984 was released on Dec 31, 1983 but we should leave it on 1984.

Sea of Love is in my 80s playlist and usually makes it on to the 80s compilation CDs I make for my car.  I remember the Rockin' at Midnight cover, too.  Never heard the rest.

At the Time of the late 70's early 80's I was a rabid Zep fan, like I am with DT now.  So I listened to EVERYTHING Page or Plant came out with.  From the crappy Death Wish 2 soundtrack, to the Honeydrippers.  I really wasn't a big fan, my tastes those days were heavier for sure.  Great album though.
