romdrums - 13Main Entry: Hiromi Trio Project - Brand New Day
9/10
I swear I’ve heard this in a movie or TV show or something. I’m a sucker for piano jazz. I could listen to this all day. Only criticism I have is the abrupt ending.
Wine Pairing: John Coltrane - Naima
4/5
<- just imagine that but with a Sax instead of a trumpet. Any Coltrane is good Coltrane.

Lizzo - 12Main Entry: Aziza Mustafa Zadeh - Two Candles
9/10
Not much to say about this because there’s not much to it, and that’s fine. I love solo piano jazz, and I really enjoyed this one. Didn’t want it to end.
Wine Pairing: Duke Ellington & John Coltrane - In a Sentimental Mood
3/5
<- just imagine that but with a Sax instead of a trumpet. Any Coltrane is good. I’ve owned the Giant Steps album for years, but haven’t spent much time with it other than the title track.
We tried playing Giant Steps in high school jazz band years ago (I played bass). It did not go well.

lonestar - 11Main Entry: Gacharic Spin - Lonely Mart
7.5/10
Beautiful song. Reminds me of Kingdom Hearts.
Wine Pairing: BAND-MAID - Forward
3.5/5
Very catchy. Reminds me of something but I can’t put my finger on it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ariich - 11Main Entry: Markets Irglova - Without a Map
8/10
The ending makes this song for me. The rest is great, but every time I listen to it now, I’m just waiting for that outro.
Wine Pairing: A.A. Williams - I’m Fine
3/5
Very beautiful song, but I feel like it’s missing a climax. It needed to build up to something.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
King Postwhore - 11Main Entry: David Crosby - Sky Trails
7.5/10
Wine Pairing: David Crosby - Buddha on a Hill
3.5/5
Two really beautiful, haunting songs. Really enjoyed both of them
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sacul - 11Main Entry: Pescado Rabioso - Cantata de Puentes Amarillos
8/10
I just really love his weird chords. More of this please.
Wine Pairing: Luis Alberto Spinetta - Quedándote o Yéndote
3/5
Not a lot to say about this. A really pretty song.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
twosuitluke - 10.5Main Entry: Black Label Society - Spoke in the Wheel
7.5/10
I like this more than anything else I’ve heard from BLS. Has a kind of Lynyrd Skynyrd vibe. I think Zakk’s voice suits stuff like this more than their metal stuff.
Wine Pairing: Alkaline Trio - Blue Lube in the Face
3/5
Well this song spawned a new meme/joke/whatever, so I gotta give it props if only just for that. This song was alright. Reminded me of Neutral Milk Hotel. The singer sounds like he’s blown out his voice.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Puppies - 10.5Main Entry: Bat for Lashes - The Boys of Summer
7/10
Really simple, lovely rendition of a song I’ve never cared for that much.
Wine Pairing: Imogen Heap - 2-1
3.5/5
I’m only a little familiar with Imogen Heap. I own Speak for Yourself and think that’s a great album. This song seems to be more of that kind of electro pop sound, which I welcome. Really liked it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Evermind - 10.5Main Entry: Anneke van Giersbergen - Agape
7/10
I know her from somewhere, but I can’t place it. Don’t tell me. It’ll come to me. Very pretty song. The word “diabolically” seems kinda shoehorned in there.
Wine Pairing: Green Carnation - Sweet Leaf
3.5/5
With all the cover songs this round, I was little disappointed that this wasn’t a cover of the Black Sabbath song. Really enjoyed this one. This is one of those bands I’ve seen mentioned many times, but never got around to listening to.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Buddyhunter1 - 10.5Main Entry: Della Zyr - What Orpheus Sang Before
8/10
Love the airy vibe of this one. Sounds like was recorded in a cave behind a waterfall. Lovely song and atmosphere. I want to live in this song.
Wine Pairing: Greet Death - I Hate Everything
2.5/5
This one was just ok. A little too repetitive. I do like the fuzzy, noisy guitar bit in the middle. I’m a sucker for shit like that. Gotta say, this guy sounds pretty chill for someone who hates everything.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
faizoff - 10Main Entry: Sara Bareilles - Satellite Call
7/10
Wine Pairing: Sara Bareilles - Little Voice
3/5
My only knowledge of Sara prior to this was Love Song from 16 years ago. I don’t ever need to hear that one again, but I enjoyed these two. Really like the “ooh-ooh” section of Satellite Call.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
jingle.boy - 10Main Entry: Everygrey - Trilogy of the Damned
6/10
I like parts of this. Some parts are beautiful, but then some parts sound like Kurt Cobain trying to sing Queen.
Wine Pairing: Silent Skies - The Trooper
4/5
Obviously I know and love the original version. This is an interesting take on the song. Being that the song is about war, the energy of the original makes sense, but arguably, so does the more somber vibe of this version. Two sides of the same coin. I like it.
I should note that you also submitted an alternate song for your WP, which I considered, but I couldn’t find that one on Apple Music. So I went with this one.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ProfessorPeart - 10Main Entry: Ani DiFranco - Shameless
6.5/10
This song would be better without the drums. Love the energy and the guitar playing.
Wine Pairing: Rodrigo y Gabriela - Hanuman
3.5/5
Really fierce guitar playing, but still very melodic and tasteful.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stadler - 10Main Entry: Elvis Presley - Bridge Over Troubled Water
7/10
Wine Pairing: Elvis Presley - Good Time Charlie’s Got the Blues
3/5
I’m certainly familiar with Elvis. My mom is a huge fan and his music was always around growing up. I’ve even been to Graceland and his birthplace in Tupelo, MS. I really enjoyed both renditions of these songs. I’ll admit I’m more familiar with the Neal Morse Band version of Bridge, but I like this version a lot, and his voice really suits it. Gotta take off some points solely because these just aren’t stripped-down. There’s a full band and an orchestra.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TAC - 9.5Main Entry: Meursault - The Mill
6.5/10
Not quite the stripped-down vibe I was hoping for, moreso just a mellow song, but it’s a nice song.
Wine Pairing: Acolyte - Resilience
3/5
I get a medieval vibe from this. This makes me want to play Skyrim.
And Tim, Skyrim is a video game.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HOF - 8Main Entry: Kip Winger - Another Way
5/10
The vocals kill this for me. Instrumentally great though.
Wine Pairing: Prefab Sprout - Bonny
3/5
who the fuck is bonny
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
wolfking - 7Main Entry: Bush - Bonedriven
4/10
This one was just ok. Sounds like they really wanna be Nirvana.
Wine Pairing: Bruce Dickinson - Arc of Space
3/5
Nice to hear Bruce outside of Maiden, but it still sounds like Maiden. Not complaining one bit. Good song.
