Listening to a live version of it during my workout this morning, it occurred to me that Dream Theater could probably do serious justice to U2's "Where the Streets Have No Name," so long as Rudess sticks with the background keys and doesn't try to Rudess it up with annoying solos.
Was thinking the same thing. Whoever said "Blue Rondo a La Turk" gets a prize. Some other cool tunes/albums:
Bon Jovi-Slippery When Wet
Styx-Most of the Tommy Shaw-written tunes, like "Blue Collar Man," though a song like "Babe" would be good too.
Boston-"Smokin'"
Queen-Yes, they've already covered Queen, but they do it so well dammit!
Derek & the Dominoes-Layla
Living Colour-"Cult of Personality"
Meat Loaf-"Bat Out of Hell," "I'd Do Anything For Love."
I find DT at their best when they're rockin' out.
