This isn't a laugh out loud movie from start to finish on the first viewing like some comedies are (The Naked Gun, for example). There are so many clever and subtle idiosyncrasies with each character, you don't really catch them on the first viewing, but after repeated watchings, once you really know the characters, that stuff becomes easier to detect, and as a result, the movie becomes that much funnier. This is easily one of the two or three movies I randomly quote the most in everyday life.
