Well, I'll actually give MP the benefit of doubt here and assume that he was specifically quoting the blog because of this section:

Quote
Sadly, sometimes the decisions that are the hardest for us to make, are also the easiest. Not because we want to make them, but because we know that we need to make them. By the time I left Metal Edge, I knew that there was no other option. The magazine was destined to fail under its new ownership, and I realized that I was in no position to prevent that from happening.

Two years and three editors later, Metal Edge went out of business.

What does this have to do with Dream Theater? Everything. I can relate to Mike Portnoy's decision, because I know exactly how it feels to know that you're out of options.

And he was clearly out of options - you don't walk away unless you have no other choice.

Maybe he was just quoting it to corroborate the notion that his decision was based on having no other option.
EDIT: Hmm, nah, I'll take my comment back. That blog is so heavily laced with "without me they will suck", it's hard to imagine MP wasn't endorsing that aspect too.

Wow, that is quite arrogant. He simply quoted the URL, that's it.

I never expected Mike's mid-life crisis would. result in him posting links to articles saying how a band is nothing without him and that he woul quit Dream Theater.

I'm not losing respect for MP... yet but it is dropping ever so slowly

After reading that article, I lost close to all of my respect for MP. He was my god, and my favorite drummer. Now, now, I don't know where I stand :(

I hate to say it, but MP always struck me as a character who'd, after everything is said and done, try to lash out once more when his enemy has turned his back on him. "Vindictive" is the right word here. Happened with KM, happened (it seems) with his stepfather, and looks here once again to be happening.
EDIT: I am fully aware that my notion of this is totally based on circumstantial evidence. It's just how it seems to me.

There is always a side to a story you're unfamiliar with. We really can't sit back and think that the basis of this split was a disagreement over MP wanting to take a short break from DT.

I suspect some serious differences of opinion, creative and personal ones, here.

Portnoy has no right to be angry at DT given the information we have.  He was the one who chose to left.  It is so unreasonable to think the band would just quit cause he wasn't there.  Portnoy could have stayed in the band if he just chose not to do a bunch of side projects.  The fact is, Portnoy would rather do those side projects then be in DT.  That's not fair to the other members who are 100% into Dream Theater and rely on it for a living.  Portnoy would be very unreasonable to get angry at DT.

Have you ever thought that the reason he left is because him and JP are no longer getting along? We all know that it has ALWAYS been a power struggle with JP and MP. Maybe when MP wanted a break, JP said no. So Mike leaves. Now Mike is trying to say to John "Look this is what people are saying!"

However i hope this doesn't come to a war of words or else we may never see DT as we know it EVER again!

Concerning the bolded part. If that is true, than I'd find it funny as most fan comments I have read are: The band will continue on and be better than ever. No one is really saying Dream Theater can't go on because it doesn't have the heart of the band

I've certainly been pondering the potential for this thing to turn ugly.  Not only is there MP's personality, which does lend itself to some animosity here, there's still the business aspect to be dealt with.  Deciding to part ways is the easy part.  Dissolving the business end of it can be a real bitch.
Argument, the presentation of reasonable views, never makes headway against conviction, and conviction takes no part in argument because it knows.

???  I don't get what the problem is with quoting a link to that article.  The guy was very (perhaps "overly") complimentary of Mike as a person, a musician, and the "heart" of DT.  What's the problem?

Come on, bosk, you're playing the "what? I don't see it!" game here. MP posts a link that is titled "Can the band beat without a heart?" and then the author likens MP's departure to his own career where after he left Metal Edge, the magazine imploded and died.
And the whole thing ends with the statement "But Dream Theater without Mike Portnoy? Where's the heart?"

It was a shot saying that DT will probably not be able to continue without him.

No, it wasn't a "shot."  It was merely the author's (i.e. not Mike Portnoy's) opinion in an article that has as its primary tone a lament about how hard it is to go through the motions when you don't feel like the fit is right anymore.  You're reading WAY too much into it, IMO.

You're right.  I don't see it.  Yes, the article says that.  And as you said in your earlier post in the thread, there are plenty of reasons to give Mike the benefit of the doubt in linking to the article other than assuming, without any substantiation whatsoever, that his motives might have been bad.

Are we sure that it's always MP running his twitter and facebook, btw? The most recent post refers to an "interview with MP." As in, third person. Mike Portnoy doesn't refer to himself in the third person, as far as I'm aware. (Although that would make for some really funny interviews.) Could be that a webmaster or someone read the article, thought it was appropriate, and slapped it up there.

Still starting to wonder whether the break might've been a bit acrimonious, though. They're no longer following one another on twitter, nor are they facebook friends.

Well, to each their own. I can not interpret MP's choice to quote this specific link any other than that he also specifically endorses the "Can DT beat without a heart?" part.

But why would you come to the conclusion that it is necessary to assume he specifically endorses that part?  I notice that you tend to automatically assume whatever motive makes someone the most evil must be the only correct choice, and I'm noy sure why.

So, your question is why I think the title of the blog, and its last concluding section, is important in what I think the linker thinks is important about the blog?
(not to mention the stuff in the middle)
MP will have read those sections too, just as we do. But he decides nonetheless to post it, specifically, on Facebook.
I mean, I don't think one should blow this out of proportion either. But I find it very hard to not see the message in this specific case.

He wouldn't post that article just for fun, MP isn't stupid. He knew when he posted that, people could possibly interpret the article this way.

And isn't the most important message of an article found in the last few sentences? That's what people remember, and that's where you give the reader of the article a strong reinforcement of your stance/message.

EDIT: Haha Rumborak you beat me to it, in proper english too!
