Those ratings are pretty granular as well - more like school percentage grades.

As long as you aren't going by mr.com criteria, it'll be fine.

I'm kinda sorta out of stuff to send you. We listen to the same shit... Although I do have plenty of stuff that you wont like very much. So it's either forfeit or send you something you wont like until I lose.

Double post to save me from page 2.

Well, you all knocked it out of the park last round, and apparently set the bar incredibly high.  This round ... not so much.  The old saying is true - can't please all of the people all of the time, and I definitely was not nearly as pleased this round as I was last.

A couple of gems, a handful of decent tunes, and a couple that had me

My song probably falls in decent tunes category. I love it, but it rarely grants me great results in roulettes.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

That's the thing, when you have a special connection with the song, you feel like you just have to send it, even though it probably won't translate as well.

Indeed. But for me it's better to send the song you love and get mediocre score for it than send the song you're not so keen on and get the same score. This way I can blame it all on the host tastes.

Oh, and I forgot to post this from Mystery last week:

Quote
Dayum, Dayum, DAYUM!  I guess this round bit back on me, and I need to take that Booyah back.  WASP huh?  I never would have guessed that.  I thought Italian Power/Prog Metal was up your alley?  Thought you were a fan of Epysode and DGM?  You tricked me.  :lol Time to think.  Nowhere to go but up.

Well yes Mystery, I am a fan of all of that, but the Italians also have their share of 'meh' too.  I guaran-damn-tee you'll do as good or better this round.

Ok, a few teaser comments as I do the writeups:

- First thought was … hhmmm never expected someone to send this
- More melodic metal… seems to be the theme of the round
- great music; vocally was kinda uneventful
- great metal riffs, and an excellent guitar solo
- vocally, there seemed to be a struggle in the high range
- vocally, the range was pretty narrow
- vocally was not very dynamic… very little range

Are you sensing a trend here??

As a general rule I don't go for the screamy/guttural vocal styles that are interspersed throughout the song I sent, but this song is an exception to that rule and I find them acceptable here and really like the song in spite of it. I kinda hoped that Chad would feel the same way, but it wasn't going to be surprise me at all if he didn't.

Not sure if I am featured there -  my main entry had a great vocalist that I know Chad likes , so perhaps "more melodic metal" from me.

The other track I sent (wild card) could well fit the "never expected" but you can't expect something if you've never heard of the artist and I doubt Chad knows him.  So doubt that's it.

my general rule on harsh vocals lately is "bury them in the mix a little and they tend to work better" bcuz i don't really like them on their own but if they're used to add a layer of texture then they tend to be pretty okay

If I had to take a guess at the "never expected" artist...maybe A Perfect Circle? Everything else seems fairly predictable.

Says you.  And you'd be wrong.

Writeups are pretty much done, but again... it's late, I'm going to bed.  Will try to get them fired off first thing in the morning (in 6-7 hours).  Don't remember what my workday has in store for me.

I would say the uneventful vocals belong to Maynard, and although I disagree, I can understand someone thinking that.
