making their next album (they are well into the process already apparently, due out this year too. See Dom's and Matt's Insta for pictures)

Could do with a better album - 2nd Law, Drones and Simulation Theory haven't been a patch on their early material.

I agree that they have yet to top or equal OoS, Absolution and Black Holes & Revelations, but I was really high on both The 2nd Law and Drones. Very good records. Simulation Theory had some really good stuff, but was a bit lacking in spots and didn't have much staying power with me.  Hoping for a nice bounce back, and really hoping that all of this time off from touring will help Matt Bellamy's voice, which was starting to sound a bit worn. I noticed a few cheats on the last few tours that singers often do once their voice is in decline.  Granted, given the way he sings, it was only a matter of time before his voice fell out of its prime, but I can dare to dream, right? ;)

I really liked Drones, it was much more my style, but I don't think I listened to Simulation Theory more than a couple of times.

Origin was their peak for me and realistically they're never gonna get near that again.

I think absolution was their peak. And no, they're never gonna reach that kind of sound and attitude. Looking at videos from that era, they act like they have something to prove EVERY NIGHT, and now they sound like a bland and souless alt rock band. I think unfortunately it's a natural progression for any band, to be a little bit more complacent as they age, and to mature and update their sound as per their evolved taste. I don't blame them, but don't think I'll pay to see them again.

Simulation was the first Muse album that really didn't work for me. We'll see how this one turns out.

Oh, hell yes to this!!

https://www.nme.com/news/music/muse-announce-20th-anniversary-origin-of-symmetry-remix-album-with-new-version-of-citizen-erased-2944718

As much as I love this record, it is in that "I wish it sounded better" camp, so this has the potential to be a killer upgrade.  The new version of Citizen Erased (easily found on YT) sounds tremendous.  :metal :metal

Will this single appear on a future album? Or is it just a standalone thing?

I'm quite sure it will be the fourth piece on the album (as per MattB's car dashboard in the teaser clip, see here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Muse/comments/romrcw/full_60_second_preview_of_new_song_wont_stand/), and we know the album is completed already, so...

Yeah, it's been long enough since Simulation Theory. Only feels right to be in a new album cycle by now. ST has really grown on me over the past three years, too.

Simulation Theory had some songs I liked a lot, but I got far less mileage out of that Muse studio album than any other since becoming a fan in 2006.  Hoping for a nice bounce back.

I quite liked Simulation Theory, but am hoping the new album has some more bite to it.

It somehow sounds a little disjointed. Will need a few more listens to evaluate it.

Not sure what I think of that song.  Feels like one that could grow on me and be pretty great after a handful of listens, or one where I think, "no thanks." Time will tell.  I am ready for a new Muse album and tour, either way.  :hat

I liked it a lot. Love the electro rock vibe in the intro/verses, and very enjoy the chunky riffing. Sounds like they're bringing a bit more crunch back for the next album.

Sometimes they do things sonically that really grate and this was one of those. Also found the vocal melodies v familiar. Oh, then something like nu metal happened!

I'll give it another bash today as I do love em.

This sums up my opinion as well. It would be really interesting if MUSE manages to really mix the eletronics with its heavier side from Absolution/Black Holes era in the entire album.

"The Will Of The People" sounds like either their next single or the title of their upcoming album! Either way, I'm excited!

From the YouTube comments, the band members' heads have song titles on them:
Dom's head: Will Of The People, Liberation
Matt's head: Compliance, Die, Kill Or Be Killed
Chris' head: Ghosts, Won't Stand Down, Euphoria

Only 8 song titles so either there are more we don't see, the songs are longer than usual, or it'll be a short album.

or both actually, as a title for their next single and or the album title. I'd actually guess both at this point. Nice vocal layers by Matt in the teaser too IMHO
