The Official St. Vincent Thread - v. 1 Hell Is Near
« on: April 26, 2024, 07:02:59 AM »
Good morning, and welcome to the Official Dream Theater Forums Dot Org thread for a personal favorite of mine (see avatar), St. Vincent.

Annie Clark is one of the most talented folks in the 'biz today. In addition to her seemingly never ending string of near-perfect albums, she was recently included in Rolling Stone's list of Greatest Guitarists Ever at #26. Impressive!

Her new album, All Born Screaming, is out today!

What do you think so far?

BTW, here is my album rankings for St. Vincent:

Actor
Marry Me
Strange Mercy
St. Vincent
MASSEDUCTION
Daddy's Home

Despite being in last, I would still give Daddy's Home at least a 7, if not 8

I jumped off the St. Vincent train with MASSEDUCTION. I had tickets to a show and ended up selling them because of how disappointed I was with that album.

1 spin of the new album and its alright, 2 tracks I see myself revisiting. The rest no so much.

Sorry to hear that, while I agree MASSEDUCTION is a step down from her other ones sans hefdaddy's home, I would still say it's a great album. I love Los Ageless, a karaoke go-to of mine

Been listening to the new one all weekend, willl formulate my thoughts and post a review soon! Hope everyone else is enjoying the new  record, it's amazing!

St. Vincent has been an artist where I'll like a song or two here and there but I didn't give her albums a proper spin until Masseduction. That album has a handful of tracks I revisit while Daddy's Home I felt was too derivative. I gave Hell a spin and nothing really stuck out for me but perhaps I'll visit her earlier works and see what's going on there.

You definitely should, I would go for any of her first three (or all three of them!)
