It's good but it's not that good.

I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

Paradise Lost wins so easily that it's not even close to funny.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

The Odyssey, V and Twilight in Olympus are the best them.

I don't get V. It has a few really awesome songs, but I get extremely bored when I listen to it as a whole.

V takes a lot longer to get into than some of the others IMO.

The Divine Wings of Tragedy is the best them for me. IT'S A PERFECT MOTHERFUCKING MASTERPIECE. Next, Paradise Lost and next, The Damnation Game (However I find The Odyssey and Twilight in Olympus very good, Twilight being criminally underrated). I'm slowly getting into V, and I'm starting to like it. Also:
V takes a lot longer to get into than some of the others IMO.
This without a doubt.

You know, everyone says Twilight is underrated but it gets talked about and appreciated just as much as the other albums.

Haven't seen people who do that (I guess I'll have to lurk moar), I think it's the SX album people talk less about (Of course after the self-titled).

I don't understand it's hard to get into V. V is the album that got me hooked into Symphony, now Twilight or Divine. The whole album's so intense. And though this might be a controversial statement, but for me, V > SFAM.

On another topic, I was quite shocked when I first heard Masquerade. Allen's voice seemed a bit immature in that album.

Lately perhaps but not quite in the grand scheme of things. People defend it here and there but hardly anyone if anyone at all claims it as their fave. That aside I gotta go with Divine Wings as my fave. It's got a very good balance of heaviness/songwriting/virtuosity(without venturing into wank.) Also, I can handle folks ranking the self-titled as their least favorite but to call it a bad album is a stretch. Bad vocals? Yes (imo.) Rough around the edges? For 99% of all recorded bands ever? Not at all. For SX when compared to all their other albums? Sure, but I find the dissent toward that album apalling given that it set the foundation for their sound and had some excellent tracks like The Raging Season and Absinthe and Rue which mercilessly own the vast majority of the best songs ever made by a fair amount of other metal bands. The Damnation game was a fantastic debut for Russell and The Edge of Forever may never be overtaken as my favorite SX song.

Were you referring to the 1998 version? He does sing on that, but the original is sung by Rod Tyler. Who didn't really do a good job on the album :P

Lack of my research I guess. Symphony X deserves more love from me. *researches*

I agree that Rod Tyler guy is... not as good.

Yeah. But they did redo the song with Russ and included it as a bonus track on The Odyssey.

I agree. When I first heard it I couldn't catch on the first time. I stowed it away for a while, rediscovered it (:neverusethis:), and it's definitely crept its way towards the top of my favorite albums.

Don't care if it's underrated. It's probably one of my most favorite SymphX song.

But the best of best is still On The Breath of Poseidon.

Other than people who don't like the whole of V for some messed up reason, how can it be under rated when no one disagrees with you that it's a good song?

Aw, I bet you were just waiting for an opportunity to use that picture, huh? I'm glad I could oblige. Unfortunately you've wasted it because it doesn't even work in this context. :(

Actually, no.  It exactly works.  As most of the posts after yours have indicated, you have no idea what you are talking about.

That truly is a brilliant tactic for debates, to just say the other person doesn't know what they're talking about! It's clearly a far better solution than, I don't know, accepting that your opinion is not universally held.

Do you think that you can understand my perspective better than I can? Because, from my perspective, the song really doesn't get the praise/recognition it deserves.
