Remina - Strata

https://remina.bandcamp.com/album/strata

Of course over half the album had already come out via singles, but the quality of the rest is on the same level, so this is easily one of the best albums this year.

Totally agree. Although I have to admit I´ll buy every album Heike releases. Such a beautiful and unique voice.

Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Revisiting some 2022 releases

All good stuff. The Disillusion album is definitely growing...some beautiful music in there. Ruby the Hatchet is one of the albums I spun the most in recent weeks. Darkest Era is another BIG grower...it's super-epic, but in an almost understated way, if that makes any sense. The guitar work is not flashy, but it's incredibly effective. As previously discussed, Queensryche, Clutch and Alter Bridge all delivered too.

Swap out Turnstile for Ethereal Shroud and I'd agree just based on first listens.

Can't say I've heard Ethereal Shroud. *sigh* I guess I'll add it to the neverending list. Turnstile is probably better though  :corn

Are you even into atmospheric black metal? If you are you'd probably enjoy it.

I kept hearing people talking about how novel that Turnstile album was, and maybe this is just my lack of familiarity with the styles it's pulling from speaking, but to me it just sounded like pretty normal punk rock. :lol

Took me a while to respond to this but yea, I basically like a load of sub genres of black metal whilst not really actually liking much in the way of straight up black metal. Haven't got around to Ethereal Shroud yet, but it's coming up on one of my playlists. I did however, just finishing listening to this...

I'd say this was pretty atmospheric black metal!

As for Turnstile, I wouldn't say they were punk rock. They are a hardcore band but with GLOW ON they mixed in some like dream pop elements or something (I'm far from an expert on dream pop) and created hardcore dreamcore.

Dreamy hardcore.

Hareamcore.

Something. Anyway, it's a cool hardcore album that pushes the boundaries of hardcore.

Can't go wrong with Enshine! Such a great album. I do not know Words of Farewell...recommended?

Oh, that Afsky album is pretty good...the sense of desperation in it is almost palpable...

As I've told you before, this was one of the biggest surprises for me last year. Excellent album.

Some of the more intriguing stuff in the last few years is what I would call dream sludge, which is a similar sort of idea, but the execution is probably a bit different.  I've heard that Turnstile album mentioned a lot, but haven't checked it out yet.

That Enshine album was the first harsh vocal album I ever bought!

I did not know Words Of Farewell either, but Spotify played them when the Enshine album ended, so I pulled it up and listened to the whole thing. It's from 2011.
I would definitely recommend it.  :metal

It's OK, I'll listen and then give a really vague statement about it so you won't know if I loved it or hated it  :tup

Fiora - Flyphoenixx

I should come back to this one more often.  I don't know if it's superficial or just human, but it's easier to get into orchestral work when you like other completely non-related things the artist has done, like Fiora's more vocal and electronic material.  Actually, she does do some vocals, but the majority is instrumental, and some of the ones that are present are operatic, which I'm otherwise pickier about.
