Porcupine Tree - Closure/Continuation
The Dear Hunter - Antimai

Both of these albums I've only listened to once thus far, but I'll be returning to both.

Closure/Continuation is an album I'm kind of mixed on... I I like everything from Dignity onwards (including the bonus tracks), but I feel like the first three songs made for a very weak opening to the album. It just sounds like a fusion of Steven Wilson's solo albums (mainly The Raven That Refused To Sing and Hand. Cannot. Erase.) except nowhere near as interesting as that would sound. The rest of the album feels a lot more creative, though.

Antimai is one I'm more positive on. I was expecting this to be completely different stuff from The Dear Hunter, so I'm surprised that there's some comparisons I can make between this and the Acts despite this being a completely new project. But I don't think that's a bad thing, because not only is the orchestral stuff done really well as usual, but there's still some new and creative stuff going on at the same time. It definitely has a different vibe to it than any of the Acts. I'm not really sure what to make of the story, but considering how much I enjoy the story that the Acts series tells, I'm optimistic that this will become something quite interesting.

The first metal album I ever heard! Just recently bought the digi-pack remaster.

True! It came out the year I was born, 1970. My Aunt played me a lot of YES, King Crimson, Alice Cooper and Sabbath when I was very young.

Shedfromthebody - To Hold the Ripened Sun

One of my favorite albums from last year.  Been listening to it a bit again today and I'm liking it even more.  "Fascia" has a really cool drum groove midway through, and "Shrines" is one of the prettiest melancholic songs I can think of.

White Ward - False Light

Might give this another spin tonight, great album.

Finally checked it out today, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, certainly a strong contender for end of the year lists.  Not sure I like it quite as much as the previous one, it has less of that unique nocturnal city vibe than before, but it has other things I enjoy more, like heavier guitars than I remember them having before.  Can't wait for additional plays.

Sylvaine - Nova

Finally got around to listening to this a few days ago. Beautiful stuff.

Yeah, that's one of my favorites this year as well.

I've been trying off and on to get into her for awhile, but she hasn't clicked yet for me other than a song or two here and there.  I know she's been influential on a number of other artists I like, I might have to give this one a go.  How does it differ from the normal version?  I've heard that one and enjoyed it, but very mildly.

I don’t think I’ve ever listened to this whole album. I know that it’s not their most popular, but your comment makes me want to give it a listen.

A ton of Pink Floyd

Dark Side of The Moon (2011 Remaster)
Dark Side of The Moon Live at Wembley (came with 2011 remaster)
The Piper At The Gates of Dawn
Meddle
Obscured By Clouds
Wish You Were Here

Watched the new Blu-ray Delicate Sound of Thunder - remixed and updated version, might listen to the CDs at some point too. Revisiting the Floyd has been a ton of fun, was long overdue.

Another favorite album from last year.  "Curse" is hitting the hardest today, not sure why I didn't think of this before, but it's kind of like a metal version of "Lux Aeterna".

Yes, that's where I heard her first. And I agree, she's amazing on that track. I always wished she'd been given even more material on Thy Catafalque albums, which is another reason why I was so happy with The Answer Lies in the Black Void  :)

Ah, it was almost the other way around for me.  Technically I enjoyed a few Thy Catafalque albums a decade or two ago, but kind of forgot about them for a long time.  I listened to Naiv but when it came out and was underwhelmed, but after stumbling upon TALITBV that made me pay more attention to Vadak, which is a much better album to me.

Incidentally, looking at their discography, the first Thy Catafalque album with Horvath on guest vocals was Geometria (2018), so that collaboration is relatively new...

Vadak is great, but I like Naiv a lot too  - might be because it's the first Thy Catafalque album I've heard, before I started exploring the rest.

Just listened to this (someone on last.fm reddit recommended it I think) and it left a really good first impression. I checked Forgotten Paths, on a friends recommendation but this sounded much better to be honest.  Gonna revisit a few other 2022 albums then might spin this again.

This has really grown on me since seeing them last week. Wish they'd played Dicke Titten but it was an incredible gig nonetheless.

Been digging deep into this one since seeing a good portion of it live last week, fucking masterpiece.

I've given this a few spins but couldn't get into it. Nothing really stood our on either listen but maybe I won't give up on it just yet.
