New song/video from Neal Schon's latest project. I really love the style they're doing here, and it's what I was hoping for. The song itself is solid.

Yeah solid song, I really do like Neal's voice, with he'd use it a little more with Journey.

I think Neal sounds pretty ordinary and heavily produced to get anything decent - on the other hand Marco sounds strong and seems to have a Lenny Kravitz thang going.  I get the feeling this has been inspired by the success of Winery Dogs.

Are you only talking about vocals in regards to Schon? If so then I agree. I also got a strong Kravitz sound from Marco's voice. I dig it.
I doubt it was inspired by Winery Dogs. It's not like the "power trio" concept is anything new, it's just coincidence. I prefer the players here anyway, and so far the result too.

Not sure I understand your question Blob ?   I said that Schon sounds ordinary and on the other hand Marco sounds strong.

I will check this release out - also good to see Deen potentially stretching himself a bit more than on Journey stuff.  He's a great drummer and singer.

And I was just checking that you were referring to vocals in response to gazinwales' post. Because the guitar work great, but I agree his vocals were ordinary. He's a backup vocalist, not a lead vocalist. Marco and Deen are both strong vocalists though, so I hope to hear both prominently.

OK I see what you mean - yeah I wasn't referring to the guitar sound.

Found it stayed around too long to be honest. The bits with Neal singing were pretty ordinary and went on too long. Would have been better as a short bridge.
I was waiting for the solo and tbh found it rather meh. Marco's parts were the best bit. Still, there's enough there to give it more listens and for the album to be good.

I get the feeling this has been inspired by the success of Winery Dogs.
Definitely not, this album was recorded in 2011. He did Journey: Eclipse, Schon: The Calling, and Schon: SO U all in one session. This was just pushed to being the last one released.

I was least hopeful for this release, out of those three, but these videos give me a renewed interest. What You Need is much more interesting than I expected and Castronovo isn't holding it back like he tends to do in Journey and did with Soul Sirkus. ...if you can get ahold of both version of Soul Sirkus: World Play, it's amazing how much a drummer can bring down a band (Castronovo version where he was clearly not with the program vs the Donati rerecord).

----------

Count me as a fan of Schon on vox, it might not be amazing but is very pleasant to make up for it. Always felt he has a very similar vocal quality to his Santana and Journey bandmate, Gregg Rolie. I've been spinning Schon & Hammer: Untold Passion a ton lately, after writing it off years ago, he's got a nice voice. Which reminds me....

Schon also has in the bag a double cd with Jan Hammer and Steve Smith. Not sure how they all split duties on it, though.

Santana IV, as they've dubbed it, is well under the way, too. Sounds like a Journey/Santana tour is likely for 2015, and I will be stoked if Rolie plays with both bands.

Also, there have been hints from Schon that Journey has started working on a new album, but, unfortunately it didn't sounds like they would keep going (no surprise) the direction of Eclipse. Cain made it very clear he did not like the album.

I loved about half of Eclipse, but I'm glad if they're not continuing down that path. The other half was too moody, and it lost some of the melody. There are certainly elements I'd like them to retain though. I've enjoyed both Arnel Journey albums, so I'll be happy to have any new Journey album, whatever direction they take it.

It'll be curious where they go, he mentioned going back to r&b/rock, which scares me because I think Raised on Radio. ...but he also mentioned Separate Ways, so I'm at least hopeful it won't be a worst case scenario. :lol

Raised on Radio counts as rock? :lol
If they did more stuff like Separate Ways, melodic yet harder rocking and concise, I'd be thrilled, as that's my favourite Journey song. And more stuff like the rockier tracks of Escape would be good too.

Just suffered through an unfortunate birthday (40  :-\  .........and crossed my thousand post milestone on the same day :) ) and having a quiet grog and pizza night tomorrow (tonight - Saturday - actually) and for once...............no kids and I'm insisting on controlling the music.  I have about 8 hours to fill in assuming my sister hangs around til all hours as usual in a vain attempt to get me pissed.   The (small) crowd is mostly people my age - a mix of those who sorta know their rock , those who would really only know Aussie/classic rock and a few who are clueless .  Metal really wouldn't go over that well , so I've come up with an idea of a mix of classic rock/hair metal/melodic rock with an alphabetical theme through the night...................so basically running from A-Z of band names and trying to get a mix that will keep both me and the crowd happy with just enough obscure/tongue in cheek stuff to keep things interesting.

Solid list of bands/tracks.  Although the lack of Skid Row, Pretty Maids and Slaughter makes me  :sadpanda:

Thanks TAC - and yeah , Wild Is The Wind is everything I like about BJ in one song and possibly my favourite of theirs.  New Jersey was about the end of the road for me though as far as they're concerned.

Yeah, New Jersey is a really solid album. Love Stick To Your Guns as well. Saw them a couple of times on this tour. A great live show back then. But yes, the line on Bon Jovi is clearly drawn with New Jersey.

Also Paradise is easily my favorite Tesla track.

Good choices too - anything but Bad Medicine.   Everyone bar me seems to love it but I just find it a bit on the cringe worthy side.

I always felt the same with that song myself.  It's like that with Def Lep too.  The big anthem. "HEY HEY" stuff doesn't do it for me.  no thank you to Rock of Ages but a big hell yeah to , Too Late ect...
I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down'.” - Bob Newhart

Blood On Blood

Forgot to mention that. It's only my favorite Bon Jovi song.

You know what song it always reminded me of? Thin Lizzy's It's Getting Dangerous.

And they were big Thin Lizzy fans. They did a great version of The Boys Are Back In Town around this time for the Stairway To Heaven/Highway To Hell Compilation.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol
