I like most of what Frontiers has been putting out.  I guess that's where I discovered the genre as opposed to you guys who are into the more older stuff.  I've followed most of what they have put out for about 7 years, so that's what I associate melodic rock with.  I guess that could have something to do with my age too.  I love the old stuff, but am just a sucker for the new stuff.

Agree on the new WET though, that really was a let down compared to the amazing debut.  Still looking forward to the DVD though.

.................common thread on the last 3 is Ralph Santolla and his terrible guitar tone :)  Monarch sounds like a less capable Sebastian Bach singing for a wimpier Millenium. :)

Stumbled onto this while browsing the collection tonight.............anyone remember it? (1991) - essentially like Steel Panther with Jeff Scott Soto on vox.

pretty funny stuff.

Wierd. i was listening to that on Youtube last night!!!! I was thinking of sending Retire or Die in Chad's roulette but I think That Load is the one...

Not heard that Monarch and Gun never did it for me. Those two Santolla albums are great, though I know what you mean regarding his tone. I'd pick Eyewitness out of the two. Another album I played recently whilst looking for inspiration for Chad's roulette.

You'd probably like some of the Monarch .   It's a bit variable in quality and the best track ain't on Youtube.  Not an essential release but pretty good.

I'm not big into Gun either - just grabbed it out for their cover of Word Up which is pretty cool.

The Eyewitness would be my pick too - pretty consistent album and Ralph has put a bit more thought into his solos , half of which often sound improvised (and not in a good way) to me , but then when he nails something it can be great.   I think that'd have to be one of the first releases on Now & Then.  Not too many people would have that album - pretty small release numbers.

Sounds good hey, well, no, it's shit actually.  What the hell?

I don't think it's shit, but not something I'm interested in. Way better than Ozzy;s latest, although I don't believe he actually wrote anything on that.

Gus was underused on that album.  Pretty much any guitar player with some decent chops would have been fine on that one.

I just don't care for that song, Gus and Mats should produce better.

I guess I was just expecting more of an instrumental direction for his solo album.

I haven't heard anything else from Gus G, so my judgement is limited to that album, unfortunately.
I actually wish more solo albums from guitarists were vocal. Instrumental albums don't really interest me at all, unless it's orchestral or something. It's fine if there are a few instrumental tracks to show off a bit more, but it wears thing pretty quickly for me.

I think you're right, and I'm sure there will be a few instrumental tracks.  This song just threw me off a bit.

I didn't think it was great either, so it's not like I'm really defending it, but I did find it refreshing that it was a vocal song as opposed to instrumental. Just my own preference of course!

A couple of snippets.....................

1. Thadeus Gonzalez confirmed as new vocalist for Lynch Mob

2.  Royal Hunt (1st Aussie dates I believe) + Vanishing Point confirmed for Sydney and Melbourne dates in April.    One thing I find rather weird is it's being promo'd as "DC Cooper's Royal Hunt"  Presumably they think he has some sort of name recognition via Silent Force?  I wouldn't know..............I'll struggle to find someone to go with.

 Shame no Brissie dates Kade............travelling?

I'll be going to see them in Sydney or Melbourne if I'm down their with work.
Should be a great gig, with VP supporting.

Yeah the DC Cooper thing is strange, we all know that it's Andre's band, he call 's the shots, does the hiring and firing.

I was a bit of a Gun fan back in the day, an old girlfriend of mine got me into them.
Swagger had it's moments, Word Up was a great cover (I have that on CD single) and was generally a pretty good album.
I remember their album 'Gallus' being really good strong rock/hard rock with lots of melody.

Gallus is probably more consistent - I hear a lot of INXS influence in there at times.

Fuck man.  I had a feeling this was coming soon since his cancer relapse.  He put up an amazing fight and just listening to his vocals on his new album proves what a strong guy this was.  :'(

From his official website;

It is with a very heavy heart I tell you that my sweet soulbrother Fergie Frederiksen passed away today January 18.

Fergie has been a true Champ, and a fighter, and for this he got several years extra with us, and actually a couple of extra albums that will be of great joy for fans all over the world for many more years to come.

Now, this has been a Journey for me as well. I started the unofficial Fergie Frederiksen website in the mid 90s, and by the end of the 90s me and Fergie agreed to make it his official website. It has been a joyride, of ups and downs (healthwise), musically only ups! I have loved it all along, to work with Fergie, he has been such a true and good friend to me. Last summer I went to Sweden for a couple of days to hang with him, and he really made my day when he dedicated the Toto song Endless (my all time favourite Toto song!) on stage. Magical for me!

So what now?

Well, we should all celebrate Fergies life and music, the way he impacted us all in such a great way is just start-touching for many of us!

If you still want to donate and contribute to Fergies Family, you can do so. Money now will be spent for his funeral and the costs around this and some events. Go here to donate:

https://www.gofundme.com/3ydgpo

My friend Fergie, thank you very much for all the good years, were you have been such a great part of my life, even a good friend. I wish you a safe journey, I will never forget you and the great moments we had together. Travel in peace…

Klaus

I haven't listened myself yet but if anyone's interested there's a fairly extensive 3 part interview here from Bob Daisley with an Aussie guitar mag.    Presumably talking about his life/career and upcoming book "For Facts Sake" - which I imagine is dedicated , with much love,  to Sharon Osbourne  ;D

Those samples did nothing for me, so I can't say I feel too motivated here. :lol And as I said, zero patriotism here, and I usually go out of my way to avoid Aussie bands if anything.
