Don't expect an actual symphony, obviously. I think some people were disappointed because they were expecting more. It's essentially a great Muse song/suite but with a stronger symphonic element and orchestral backing. I'd say it's probably the most OoS-like thing they've done for a while.

To be fair, even taking into account what a bafflingly mental weirdo Glenn Beck is, he does come across pretty well in that clip. He's got a sense of humour about himself, he's happy to positively appraise lyrics written from another perspective, and he's obviously a bit of a music fan. It's the first time I've seen him in a positive light in any sense - he usually seems like he's entirely tapped and close-minded beyond the point of reason, but it's nice to see a slightly saner side.

That said the bit at the end is actually amazing.

Just posting to say its kinda weird how probably the most non-Muse song on the album, Undisclosed Desires, is my favorite from the album while I don't like it as a whole.

I do love the album, but I do agree that Undisclosed Desires is still one of the best songs on it :)

I don't want to clutter up your review thread with discussion over it, so I will just say here that Muse is not alt rock at all.  In fact, even though they often have progressive vibes in their music, I would hesitate to call them prog rock, either.  I know it is general, but calling them hard rock is probably most accurate.

Weird. I figured there might be some dispute over the prog aspect, which I really only added because of the Exogenesis Symphony. But, I've always considered Muse to be alt rock. Especially considering their likeness to Radiohead...

They haven't been like Radiohead at all since their first album, but people still cling to the opinion that Muse sounds like them, quite obviously because of Matt Bellamy singing in a similar type of falsetto to that of Thom Yorke.

And I wouldn't call Radiohead alt rock, either.

This.
It is unfair to the skill of both groups to compare them to each other. Needless to say though, they both rock in their own unique way.

Definitely. And oddly enough, The Resistance is the Muse album with the least amount of falsettos yet.

Listen Nic. You're the one who always commented on the fact that sound like Radiohead, which I never agreed with. Don't go pinning this on me.

I never claimed that they sound like them. I said they had certain similiarities, but never that they sounded alike. And I'm not pinning at all, I was just expressing my opinion in relation to yours without any intention of insult.

Even though its not my opinion. I dislike Radiohead. I like Muse. There must be some difference there in order for me to prefer one over the other.

Thread revival time!

I've been listening to Micro Cuts, and I realised I LOVE the weird vocals, but my roomate expressed a dislike for their unique nature. What do you guys think?

My second least favourite song on TR, guiding light being the only worse song.

that bass in the chorus really gets on my nerves.

Bizarre video though :)

also, does he want to just end up with a single drum in a couple of albums time or something? Small kits look so stupid.

I just listened to this album for the first time.

The symphony was stunning (though, just out of curiosity, can you technically call it a symphony if it features piano? None of the symphonies I've heard have a piano in them). The rest...

Also, it has threatened to irk me in the past that so many of their "classical influences" are more or less lifting themes and sections straight out of the original pieces, but United States of Eurasia really pushes it. It's like they got to the end and went, "let's throw some classical on there", with no attempt to actually embed it into the piece at all.
