Hot Girls Wanted

Basically a documentary look into the amateur-porn world. They get really personal when they show one of the girls at home with her family and her mother reacting to finding out about what her daughter does.
That sounds interesting! I might look for it it this weekend.

If you have Netflix you can watch it on there.

The Loft-  Some negative reviews for this one, but I really liked it.  Lots of twists and turns and had me guessing til the end.  Good stuff

Zoolander 2- Not good.

Watchmen

Zack snyder is very hit or miss with me, but Watchmen has always been one that I have enjoyed.

The new Ghostbusters. Hate to say it but I loved the hell out of it. It was strange that half the theater was laughing their head off and the other half probably regretted even being there. As a fan of the original and growing up with it, I had zero issues with the reboot and cast and found it absolutely entertaining. 8/10.

@Phonenix which version did you watch? my favorite one is the director's cut. The ultimate cut is good but I think the DC is the sweet spot.

I loved her quirkiness in the movie.

Pixels

I heard it was stupid, not very funny, and just kinda bad overall.  So did my son.  But it's making the rounds on Starz so we watched it anyway because we both wanted to.

It was indeed stupid, and if I'm being honest, it was bad overall.  But it was also quite entertaining and had a lot of funny stuff.  A lot of typical Adam Sandler taking things just a bit farther than they should go, but that's Adam Sandler.  I expected that, got it, and wasn't (too) put off by it.

My philosophy is this: The premise can be ridiculous, absurd, even just plain stupid, but if you can make a movie that works within that premise, I'll probably be okay.  People watch stuff with magic and dragons and vampires and demons, and as long as things are internally consistent and make sense within the established universe, it's all good.  That's how I felt about Pixels.  Completely stupid, but so what?  I thought the special effects were great, and the story was ridiculous, but within that framework, the characters worked.  Hey, if I was making a movie and got Michelle Monaghan to be in it, you're damned right I'm gonna end up with her, no matter how stupid the premise.  And if my buddy has been in love/lust with some chick from a video game since we were kids and there was a way for her to become real, yep, they're going to end up together.

3 Qberts out of 5.  Reasonably entertaining flick.  Wouldn't go out of my way to watch it again, but if I catch it, I'll probably stick around.

The last movie I've seen would be Pirates of the Caribbean 3. I've managed to avoid the movie for 9 years (although I somewhat enjoyed the first two parts, actually) and now I now why. It was just... stupid. There's pretty much nothing I can say for its defense. In fact, it retrospectively made the previous two films worse for me. Even fans of Keira and Rush (and Nighy) should avoid this one, really. Depp has definitely transgressed my limits in this movie - I can honestly name no other actor who would annoy me this much.

I enjoy Pirates 3. It's too convoluted, and too long, but I can still pop it in from time to time and enjoy watching it. 2 is my favorite though.

And if you haven't seen the fourth one then maybe you should see that one, get an idea of what a truly awful Pirates of the Caibbean movie looks like.

Saw The Nice Guys last night and loved it. Felt like a modern day The Big Lebowski (in terms of feel rather than plot), but without anything that made that movie annoying. So yeah, great movie.

I saw two documentaries over the weekend.

#1 was Ghostheads, about the community of Ghostbusters superfans.  I thought I was a fan, but hell no, I'm not in the same league as these guys.  But it was really touching at times, and overall was pretty cool, especially seeing how well regarded these fans are by the creative types (Ivan Reitman, Dan Akroyd, Ernie Hudson, etc).

# 2 was Life Itself, about the life and last days of film critic Roger Ebert.  Very informative, and simultaneously very sad and very uplifting.  He was always one of my favorite critics, and his shows with Gene Siskel (also sadly gone now) really fostered my love of film.  Highly recommended.

I also caught Bone Tomahawk over the weekend.  It's a Western starring Kurt Russell and a previously unknown tribe of cannibals.  That was pretty friggin' good, and also featured one of the gnarliest death scenes I have ever seen.

Roger's knowledge and wisdom about film was so vast, I doubt there's ever been a critic who had tasted more than he had.

I, however, greatly disliked his posture about videogames.

For the First Time: City of God

Been putting this one off for some time for the same reason I put off Shindler's List for so long. I had a feeling it would mostly be misery. In the end it pretty much were, although I'm glad it ended like it did. Good movie though, glad I finally watched it. Just takes time to work up my motivation for these types of movies. It was surprisingly funny though, much thanks to the editing. Not "comedy"-funny, just funnier than I thought it would be.

Lights Out

Lot of hype going toward this movie, but sadly it just didn't live up to it. Barely over an hour in length, there wasn't much substance to this movie. Felt a lot like the ring as well. Wasn't a lot of direction to the story, it was just kind of all over the place. Overall, I thought this thing was just whatever

Also, in like the first 5 mins, there is a death that I would say is pretty damn important and it is never once brought up again or even acknowledged.

Sicario. I've been meaning to watch this movie for a while now, I know the hype around it and all the great feedback and reviews behind it were overwhelmingly positive. I knew I would love it and had been waiting to be in the right mood to watch it so I did today. To say this movie was amazing and felt flawless would be a severe understatement. Wow just wow. I really wished I had seen this in the theater, it would've been an unbelievable experience. From the soundtrack to acting, I was an ok fan of Emily Blunt before but this movie had me fawning over her. She along with Benecio Del Toro played their characters flawlessly. I later read this is the same director that made Prisoners which I LOVED. The tension created in this movie was through the roof. I'd have to say this would've been tied with Mad Max as my favorite movie of 2015.
I have no doubt the new Blade runner is in good hands and will be worth watching with this team of director and cinematographer working on it.

And I have to say my favorite part of the movie is the border crossing scene, that part from start to finish was fantastic.

Zoolander 2. meh, some funny parts for sure but overall the movie was nothing great. 5/10
Spectre, I can see why the feedback on this movie was so divided. I personally loved it and didn't mind all the clichés used in the movie like Bond basically surviving any situation he gets into. I think it was a great mix of the old bond stuff with the exaggerated shooting sequences and basically everything that Austin Powers made fun of. I'd say it's my 3rd favorite Daniel Craig Bond movie. Skyfall is still my favorite one followed very closely by Casino Royale. I enjoyed it quite a bit 8/10.

Hardcore Henry

The movie is entirely shot in first person view, so I was curious to see whether it would just be a gimmick, but for the most part I thought it turned out quite well. Sometimes the fast first person view got a little nauseating and confusing (although probably no more than modern action movie fast cuts), but during the action sequences and parkour stuff it was really awesome seeing it as if you're experiencing it, like an FPS game on steroids.
The whole movie was brutally violent, and funny too. I probably wouldn't want to see more movies like this, but for a one off gimmick, I thought it was a great watch.

Angry Birds.

It was actually very funny, the designs were gorgeous and very well done, and the way the game works was worked well into the plot. It has its own merits, it's not a "Uh this videogame is famous so let's make a movie about it" ripoff, it's actually funny!

The new Jungle Book movie. Despite some slightly campy moments I actually thought it was really good overall.

SPOILERS

I don't know how the original book ends, but I was a bit disappointed that it didn't end like the old cartoon, where Mowgli walks of with a human girl. The movie fixed a lot of the original's problems with building relationships between the character, which would have made that specific ending more powerful. But I guess chilling out in a tree is fine too, not as strong though.

Rewatched The Prestige. Great fun movie to see again, had mis-remembered a lot of details.
Saw Deadpool again but this time with the commentary with Ryan Reynolds and the writers. Great fun listen.

About two days ago me and my wife have seen Calvary (2014). A very cool movie (might be considered quite bleak by some, though), full of interesting theological questions and themes, beautiful shots of Irish countryside and an army of excellent actors. Well worth a watch!

Mutant Girls Squad

A Japanese movie about these mutant girls fighting against this government anti-mutant unit. So basically X-Men with Japanese schoolgirls? Pretty funny movie, with a lot of silly gore.
Only in Japanese cinema can I watch a movie that has a girl fighting with a butt-chainsaw, someone squirting acid breast milk to kill people, and dismembered flying hands attacking people and think "how derivative". :lol

SPOILER

It ended with the cross-dressing praying mantis boob squirting mutant dude being killed by the tentacle schoolgirl mutant flying the naked fire girl mutant like a rocket surfboard to activate the bomb they attached to his chest penis sword before he could make it limp again. Then the Prime Minister wasn't grateful to the 3 mutant girls for saving him because he hates mutants, so they curb stomped him to death.
