We're incredibly excited to announce that our longtime friend and contributor Adam "Nolly" Getgood (Red Seas Fire) will be joining Periphery as a full-time member. He will be taking care of bass duties live and in the studio, and additionally will be bringing his considerable guitar playing, production and songwriting abilities to the table.

Misha Mansoor had this to say:
"Nolly has been an honorary Periphery member for the last few years. He filled in on bass for us on our first real tour (Thrash and Burn 2009) and since then has always been there for us and has helped us out immensely. Given that we love him dearly as a friend and found that we have excellent chemistry both on stage and in the studio, and he is a master of all of his instruments, hiring him as our full-time bassist was the logical solution. His irreplaceable ability and insight brought so much to the production and bass on Periphery II: TTIP - we don't feel that anyone else would be able to take on the roles he has filled. He has already been writing with us for new material, and we are proud to have him on board!"

Nolly continues:
"It's absolutely amazing to be joining my friends in Periphery full-time! Having felt like part of the "family" for quite some time this feels like an incredibly natural step. I've had the pleasure of watching them grow to their current stage and can't wait to see where we can take the band together!"

Nolly should already be known to many, having filled-in live on both bass and guitar several times over the years. He also played all of the bass on, and co-produced our new album, Periphery II: This Time It's Personal.

He will be taking up his permanent spot in the live line-up as of this October's European tour with Between the Buried and Me and The Safety Fire. Our excellent friend Jeff Holcomb will be filling in on bass for all live dates between now and October, including the imminent Summer Slaughter tour. Please check out the dates for the Between The Buried And Me/Periphery tour at https://www.facebook.com/PeripheryBand and come say hi to Nolly!

Bout damn time they made it official. Its so obvious that it was going to happen.

That said Periphery II: This Time Its personal may be one of the best albums of the last decade. Honestly. It's the album I know they've wanted to make for years.

I still think it's a bit early and people need time for the album to age and settle in, but I can't help to agree with you about the album. It's fantastic. I don't know about album of the 'decade,' (or how you define the 'decade') but it is definitely up there in the top 10 (or even top 5) for sure.

What a fantastic work. I'm still learning my way about it and I've only listened to the streams, but I can't wait for my physical copy to arrive and I can put on some nice headphones and deafen myself.

It annoys me the amount of hate this is getting at some websites. Sputnik in particular has so many people rating it a 1 without even listening to the album.

That being said, still loving it.

Yeah the hate annoys me too.

Edit: Listening through the album for the first time now, really good. Spencer is killing it.

There is alot of faster sung vocals on this album. It's great but I liked when the voclas where more stretched out.

MY favortie so far is The Gods Must Be Crazy. The ambient interludes are really beautiful, I wouldn't mind an EP of just that style.

This album =  :hefdaddy

Spencer made this album his bitch haha but im also glad that we can hear some falsetto from him as well, specifically in Ji from about 2:05 to 2:30. It shows how much he has evolved, not to mention how amazing the screams sound throughout the whole album.

Im stuck between Luck as a Constant and Ragnarok for favorite songs. I need to let the album settle in before i give it a solid rating but right now its definitely a 9/10 for me

Have A Blast, Facepalm Mute, Scarlet, and The Gods Must Be Crazy! all have top notch melodies, and the other songs have great ones, too. Those four just stand out above the rest off the top of my head.

I'm really digging this album.

Favs are probably Facepalm Mute, Scarlet, Luck As A Constant and Froggin' Bullfish
Jesus Christ himself* comes down amidst a choir of 2 billion angels singing Handel's Hallelujah chorus. As KrotchRaut shred randomly on guitars made of dragon bones using picks made from God's kidney stones, Jesus heals a blind woman who promptly gives birth onstage to a creation of pure light.

*Yes, Jesus Christ himself. Nothing less will do.

Muramasa, Have a Blast, Ji, Make Total Destory, Erised, and Masamune are my favorites so far.

I'm going to make my unpopular opinion about music here, but I still prefer Froggin' Bullfish as an instrumental. It made more sense that way... though it didn't make much sense then, either.

Only heard it twice so far, but the album is really good. So far I've found it a bit tougher to get into than the debut, but to me this is a good thing. While I love the debut, this album has a much more adventurous thing going on. The band has really tried doing something more special, more variety and generally cooler sections. It's such a joy listening to this album.  :hat

Really like Ragnarok, The Gods Must be Crazy, Erised and Masamune.

Oh and the ending of Facepalm mute is amazing.

Loving the 8-string work on this album.

Agreed. I think I saw Misha say that they used some effect to lower the notes at the end of Masamune. And I believe he said he didn't quite know how low it ended up going.

So what conseptual themes have you guys found? Of course there is the obvious "somewhere in time..." parts in Muramasa, Ragnarok and Masamune but I have also noticed that the eding riff in Masamune is pretty much built on the same rythm of the "AS WE REDUCE THEM ALL TO BONES" part in Make Total Destroy, only with slower tempo.

Have you guys come across anything else like that?

The only thing I've noticed is the epic song on the record --- Muramasa/Ragnarok/Masamune.

I haven't really been paying too much attention to the conceptual themes right now. Still listening to the album and picking our new parts with each listen!
