Well, I have zero problem with that. I just thought you were using MJR's opinion as a basis for writing it off.

Nah, my problem with the debut is the same as my problem with most of Damnation Game. I always defend Symphony X when people say how cheesy they are, but those first two albums are pretty damn cheesy. The Divine Wings has its moments too, but doesn't go quite as far to where I can't enjoy it. The only songs I like on DG are the title track (sometimes), Dressed to Kill, The Edge of Forever, and A Winter's Dream. The rest just aren't very good. And the re-recorded Masquerade is so much better, but I don't think anyone will disagree on that... well, maybe Destiny of Chaos with his weird fucking opinions, but I can't remember if he's a SX fan or not.

Bump because Awakenings = :metal. It's probably my second favourite SX song at the moment, just after The Edge of Forever. I love the unconventional song structure, and the melodies and the solos are amazing throughout. Show some love!

IIRC, you also get quite a hardon for The Edge of Forever, right? You have awesome taste. :D

Awakenings is very cool, a worthy predecessor to Odyssey. It's pretty unconventional for Symphony X in style and structure which is why I like it so much, since SX have always come off as a band who stepped outside their boundaries very much, even in their prime.

The Odyssey is pure perfection. Symphony X's crowning achievement. Not a bad song. Not a good song. All great songs.

I got The Odyssey yesterday. Amazing stuff, although Incantations Of The Apprentice and The Turning are a bit weaker than the rest (maybe/hopefully they'll grow on me). Overall, it's my favourite album of theirs out of the ones I've heard (V, The Odyssey, Paradise Lost, Iconoclast) :metal

I agree that those are the weakest tracks on the album.  But they are still very good, so...  :metal

You also might want to check out The Divine Wings of Tragedy.  Very solid album and really cool 20 min epic title track.  :tup

I don't think I have the Odyssey or The Divine wings of tragedy.  I can't check cuz all my CDs are packed up due to kids pulling 'em off shelves. guh

Dewd. Those are probably the two most vital albums to have by SX.

I agree that those are the weakest tracks... But they're not totally weak, just inconsistent. Both songs got some seriously catchy and cool bits. The Turning is pretty forgettable (personally I dig the pre-chorus, the rest not so much), until you get to the solo section. One of my favourites in the whole Symphony X catalogue, and easily overlooked. A little hidden gem!

V is the best album. Odyssey and Divine Wings got the best songs though. Twilight is a very good fourth.

I enjoy V a lot, but there are some songs on there that I'm not really into, and in some places the cheesiness is just a bit too much for me ;)

Divine will always be special to me, I kind of miss that style with less metal and more classical influences in their music.

My favourite single song from them is "The Edge of Forever". The album Damnation Game as a whole doesn't hold a candle to the three albums that come next, but that song is amazing.

I could see how a new listener might be discouraged by the title track after getting through The Witching Hour.

The album is pretty amazing and then takes a huge dump on the listener. I assure you, it gets amazing again.

I get that, but you were the one recommending me some DVOT songs to check out, not the other way round. No need to tell me to post in a different thread.

EDIT: I realised I might not really get your point, so if that's the case, I'm sorry.

On topic: Accolade II is my favourite song on TO at the moment, followed by King Of Terrors, with the title track either at #3 or #4 (pretty much a tie with Inferno).

You didn't understand...i didn't told you to post in a different thread.
I recommended some songs to you and then i think: "why not recommend album or songs of other bands?" Then i asked if there is a thread for this in DTF, because i can't do it in here (obviously, as it is a Symphony X thread)

Okay, I misunderstood (Nuggetz olol). But what exactly do you mean by "why not recommend album or songs of other bands?"? Do you want others to recommend songs to you, or what?
