I haven't actually really looked at the song titles and analyzed them yet, but they're so interesting.
Come on, a Dream Theater album that opens with a song about dreams? Why are we not discussing this more?
1. FALSE AWAKENING SUITE - A false awakening is a dream about being awake. Analyze THAT!
i. Sleep Paralysis - A state when the body is transition between being awake and asleep, where
you're awake but your body is asleep. ii. Night Terrors - Occurs during the early hours of sleep, and is sort of like a bad dream, which sounds pretty metal to me.
And it's kind of like
your body is awake, and your mind is asleep.iii. Lucid Dream - A dream where you are aware that you are dreaming and can manipulate the dream.
You're asleep but consciously awake enough to know you're asleep. I was half expecting the album to open with a track called Dream Theater, which would have been appropriate, but this is basically that in disguise, which is an even better idea. I think this song will represent the band on a literal name basis, effectively being as close to a self titled song as you can get, done in a clever way. A suite about dreams. I'm imagining lyrics like SDOIT, but about dream-states instead of mental illnesses.
DREAMCEPTION.
