This has been a tough week for GenX fans.
My love for Paul Reubens and Phil Hartman began in 1981 with The PeeWee Herman Show - Live at the Roxy Theater
Cable television was sort of a new thing. We didn't even have HBO at our house until 1983, so I saw this at a friend's house the first time and then watched it countless times. My sister and I could literally recite every line and often lapsed into bits here and there to make each other laugh. "I'm not wearing underpants." and about 100 other lines.
I still laugh at all the gags. This show at the Roxy was not meant for kids. I loved all the goofiness, innuendo and irreverence.
As for the kid's PeeWee's Playhouse, my kids were brought up on all of those. All of those famous guest appearances - so many people loved PeeWee. So in honor of his memory, I post the Roxy special - a live theater production! I hope some of you youngsters will check it out. It's campy and silly and a lot of fun. It helps to be altered - if you are so inclined.
