indi tell me when everyone else has targetted and i'll send mine in because i literally have no reason not to wait until the last minute this time. it's in fact good play to wait as long as possible when you're in last place  :corn

The advantage of picking early is you're more likely to be able to actually target a specific position/player/song.  Picking last means you're just aiming at whatever random target is in that spot when the dust has almost settled.

picking last also means you can't get knocked back by someone else later, and if someone else swaps into the spot you're targetting, it means they had a weaker submission than the person you were targetting meaning you're more likely to overtake them

Indi, I thought you weren't basing the overtake order on the order participants submitted their overtakes? I'm probably completely wrong though.

The overtake order is indeed based on the timestamp order of the overtake declarations. It would be hatefully arbitrary and unfair otherwise.

1 – Shevat, the Wind Is Calling
Jazzo – Absolutely captivating
King – Message in a Bottle of Champagne Supernova
4 – Chocolate on tuna
wolfking – Pitch axis masterclass
Evermind – Impeccably sung
7 – I am a fan of exactly 3 acts from the current millennium, you sent one of them.
jingle – You gotta be crazy
9 – Intriguingly Gently Gianty at times.
10 – Smoke and mirrors
lonestar – What I would have loved to find in A View
TAC – A lot of Piece of Mind sounds here
ariich – Prosthetic music with real flesh erupting at the end
Sacul – Feels like it's the same singer for seven consecutive submissions
15 – Harmless song, bitching solo
(Too obviously) romdrums – If I tolerate this, then my children will be next

it is 100% based on it and i've gotten screwed over a ton because of that  :lol

I think it can screw people over no matter what.

Let's say I target wolfking, while Stadler targets me.

1) If I successfully get my overtake of wolfking before Stadler targets me, then I'm out of reach of Stadler, and I land in 1st.  If however, he gets his in before me, and (by some fucking miracle) beats me, then I never get the chance to overtake Kade, and I'm in 6th.  On top of that, anyone who targeted Stadler after that is now targeting me. Ergo, I was screwed by waiting to provide my overtake target (at least a 6 spot difference because I submitted after Stadler).

In the scenario where I target Kade, while Tim also targets Kade.

2) I can be screwed by going to early - let's say Kade's submission is absolute tripe, and I overtake him first, then Tim could knock me down into 7th place if (by another fucking miracle) his submission is better than mine.  If I waited, then I only have a failed attempt at overtaking Tim after he displaces Kade... and I remain in 3rd.  I would have benefited in waiting to provide my target.

So... without knowing who and when others are targeting, the results can be both better or worse sending earlier or later.

Fuck, I really am Litho'g it here with the amount of over-thinking.   :lol
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad

@jingle it's definitely more variable when you have ground to lose but, again, there's legitimately no reason to target anytime but as late as possible when you know nobody can possibly target you from below  :lol i generally agree with what you're saying tho, yes

Yeah if you have the default 3 overtake points then Crow is right. The target is very unlikely to be overtaken by anyone else, but they might overtake someone in which case delaying makes it more likely you might beat whoever ends up in that spot.

If you have more overtake points though, it's luck of the draw. If the person you target is overtaken by someone else first, then you'd have a tougher match against the new target.

Ariich is a freak, or somehow has more hours in the day than everyone else.
I be am boner inducing.

Reading this thread is like listening to Gary Gygax arguing with Steve Jackson!
"Owners of dogs will have noticed that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they will think you are God. Whereas owners of cats are compelled to realize that, if you provide them with food and water and affection, they draw the conclusion that they are God.” — Christopher Hitchens
