That's fine for the home screen, but how will it handle apps?  Three scenarios I can think of:

1) Black bars on top and bottom
2) Stretched to fit (can affect usability for certain apps, and looks bad)
3) Re-code apps

It could be great for gaming in landscape mode. Your thumbs will be ubstructing your view less.

That's if the game is coded for the extra horizontal (when in landscape) resolution. Otherwise it's stretched and looks ugly, or there are black bars. Depending on the game, revising the app could be a costly and time consuming process.

So I 2.5x the amount of RAM in my 2010 White Unibody Macbook. Holy crap is this thing snappy, 5gb instead of 2gb makes a huge difference, and all the features are so much more usable. I'm absolutely loving Mountain Lion now, and I'm figuring out more secrets I can do with this OS. I also got Aperture 3 now that my computer can handle it. Such an awesome program. Loving this upgrade  :D

Or the black bars are no black bars but in fact room for permanent ads.

AFAIK, that's a decision made by the app dev's. Though I do wonder how Apple is going to handle the extra real estate. Maybe give dev's a choice to implement ads without much work, or add another resolution option.

Any new news on the iPad Mini, such as pricing and release timetable? Looking to get one for University as I am on a budget and my course includes application development.

Nothing official. Supposedly Apple is holding an unprecedented event on Sept 12. Speculation is the unveil of a new iPhone, iPod, iPad Mini, and possibly and Apple TV.

Apple's stock hit an all time high today.

Does anyone think they'll either announce a new iPod classic or an iPhone with a bigger capacity? I've been postponing getting a classic cause of the cost, plus I prefer the iPhone layout for music, but my collection  is at the point I need something bigger. Thoughts?

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Apple did away with the classic soon. It looks outdated compared to the rest of the Apple product line.

While I agree, I think they always need something with that capacity. Unless they've made the tech work for iPhones, I think they'll keep them as long as they're selling

I don't think they've upped the top iphone or ipod touch's capacity in a few years. I would assume they could easily get 500MB in one these days if they wanted to.

This. Having those music players with that large capacity really benefits the people like us on the forum, who listen to a wide variety of music, which usually ends up being a lot of music that takes up a lot of storage space. I would go crazy without a classic, personally.
Where would YOU be without prog?!

Same. I know some friends who need to constantly change their entire libraries up but why do that when you can carry your entire music selection on you? Shuffle sometimes reignites old interests.

But it you made an iPod touch the size of an iPhone, I bet they could squeeze at least 150GB in one due to the lack of all the phone hardware. There's no need to have an iPod touch razor thin. It's nice dont get me wrong, but I really don't think heavy users would mind having a thicker one if it meant having all that storage space.

You'd be surprised. I've had a slew of devices over the years that the average user considers bricks but are still pocket sized (Creative Zen and Samsung Galaxy Nexus).

So my home button got stuck on my iPhone, it's a pain in the ass but thankfully to apple's assistive touch feature on the phone I can use an on screen home button! Luckily today I have a friend who fixes iPhone's so my phone won't be home buttonless for long.

EDIT: All fixed :) home buttons good and working better than ever :)

Well he basically had to take the phone apart from the back to the front, it had some sensor underneath the home button that got knocked loose so he had to go back and seal it so that wont happen again

Did anyone see on the news the other day that Apple stock closed at an all time high (can't remember the exact dollar value per share) becoming the biggest company of all time surpassing the record held by Microsoft for 10 years.  623 billion dollar company.  Wow!  Is this old news or off topic or what?  Just saying....too bad Steve Jobs isn't around to see it.

It doesn't surprise me, obviously Samsung "infringed" on the patents. What does surprise me is that the judge ruled that parents as valid... https://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-57500273-37/apple-v-samsung-the-infringing-device-scorecard/

Some of that stuff should not be able to be patented.

Most of those are Android OS related, not how Samsung built the phones. And yeah most are way too broad.

disclosure/ I have not read in depth to the patents. And we all know Apple was first on the scene with a capacitive touch screen, and my next phone will be an iPhone (finally on Sprint).

But completely trying to shut down other phones (Android) can stifle innovation. That was Jobs intentions as he stated from the biography.

It can easily be argued that Andriod in not innovation if it's simply ripping off iOS. This ruling could actually cause some really good innovation since they'll have to be very unique in order to get around the patents.

Those are my thoughts exactly. Nothing about my droid seems intuitive. Everything about it just seems like an attempt to be as similar to the iPhone as possible. I want to see some cool new shit. Like facial recognition software that recognizes whether it's me or not holding the phone. If its not, restrict access to certain things. Give me facial gestures. Right wink instead of double tap to zoom, left wink to go back, etc...

I don't think they've upped the top iphone or ipod touch's capacity in a few years. I would assume they could easily get 500MB in one these days if they wanted to.

The iPhone 4S finally brought in 64gb. Otherwise it was 32gb for the iphone for awhile...

Agree though, I wish they would have more space via traditional hard disk, but I know they will not. Apple is very much for flash/SS storage (see MB Air and MBPro).

As it is anyway, they overprice the 64 and 32 by double the cost. I have two 32gb micro sd cards, at about 110$ for both. Not surprised, but my next phone will be the next gen iPhone. 200$ more for the 64gb will be hard to swallow.
