You're not gonna think that joke is very funny when TJ actually does it. :p
Actually, that would totally make it even funnier. Not that I hate TJ and want him dead, but for someone, anyone, to go to that extreme because of that... that's pretty LOL-worthy.
With the extent of his fanboy-ism, I actually agree with you. :lol

Apple Tops Worldwide Mobile PC Shipments in Q2 2011 with iPad Included

Research firm DisplaySearch today released the results of its estimates of mobile PC sales for the second quarter of 2011. The study includes both traditional notebooks and tablets, and Apple was able to ride the strength of the iPad to the top of the list with 21.1% of the market on 13.6 million units shipped. Apple comfortably topped second-place HP, which came in at 15% share with 9.7 million units shipped.

The report notes that Samsung and Dell led the way in year-over-year shipment growth among notebook PCs, but that performance was overshadowed by Apple's iPad growth, which saw unit shipments more than double year-over-year.

This is extremely misleading for two reasons.
1) Does it include tablets from other companies?
2) When you're buying a machine that runs Windows, you have more than one option, so of course the numbers are going to be split. If we had a chart of laptop sales by operating system, it would tell a very different story.

Curious to see what the stock is going to do tomorrow, I'm willing to bet it won't be good.

I think tj said he moved some of his money out of it already.
My first thought as well. These are going to plummet!

Seriously. What a terribly made chart. At least do just laptops or something.

I'm sure there will be a rebound in prices, but it'll take a much longer time

If it does plummet all it goes to show is how hilariously broken the idea of stocks are. Jobs isn't the only person with a brain in that company.

Letter from Steve Jobs
Published: August 25, 2011

CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 24, 2011-- To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

Steve

One Sunday morning, January 6th, 2008 I was attending religious services when my cell phone vibrated. As discreetly as possible, I checked the phone and noticed that my phone said "Caller ID unknown". I choose to ignore.

After services, as I was walking to my car with my family, I checked my cell phone messages. The message left was from Steve Jobs. "Vic, can you call me at home? I have something urgent to discuss" it said.

Before I even reached my car, I called Steve Jobs back. I was responsible for all mobile applications at Google, and in that role, had regular dealings with Steve. It was one of the perks of the job.

"Hey Steve - this is Vic", I said. "I'm sorry I didn't answer your call earlier. I was in religious services, and the caller ID said unknown, so I didn't pick up".

Steve laughed. He said, "Vic, unless the Caller ID said 'GOD', you should never pick up during services".

I laughed nervously. After all, while it was customary for Steve to call during the week upset about something, it was unusual for him to call me on Sunday and ask me to call his home. I wondered what was so important?

"So Vic, we have an urgent issue, one that I need addressed right away. I've already assigned someone from my team to help you, and I hope you can fix this tomorrow" said Steve.

"I've been looking at the Google logo on the iPhone and I'm not happy with the icon. The second O in Google doesn't have the right yellow gradient. It's just wrong and I'm going to have Greg fix it tomorrow. Is that okay with you?"

Of course this was okay with me. A few minutes later on that Sunday I received an email from Steve with the subject "Icon Ambulance". The email directed me to work with Greg Christie to fix the icon.

Since I was 11 years old and fell in love with an Apple II, I have dozens of stories to tell about Apple products. They have been a part of my life for decades. Even when I worked for 15 years for Bill Gates at Microsoft, I had a huge admiration for Steve and what Apple had produced.

But in the end, when I think about leadership, passion and attention to detail, I think back to the call I received from Steve Jobs on a Sunday morning in January. It was a lesson I'll never forget. CEOs should care about details. Even shades of yellow. On a Sunday.

To one of the greatest leaders I've ever met, my prayers and hopes are with you Steve.

-Vic

I'm kind of speechless that he actually considered a problem with the color gradient in a single letter to be worthy of an urgent weekend call, rather than just a simple email.

It's a character flaw of being a "perfectionist": you'll always blow something very minor out of proportion or think of nonexistent problems to escalate into major ones.

I'm not trying to say how Steve Job's should have run Apple, since generally speaking he probably knows better than me, but usually CEO's are supposed to be more big picture guys.  If Steve Jobs can be that much of a micromanager and be successful, then great.  But it's not the norm and it's usually a bad thing.

I'm saying it's a positive because it shows how much he cares about his products and believes in them. That's what people who love Steve Jobs, love about him. There's another story that goes...

Back in the late 70's someone had worked on an OS for 36 hours straight without sleeping, trying to finish it. When they finished they called Steve to approve it.  Steve Jobs came and looked at it and said... "It's great, but is that the BEST it could be?" The person sighed and said "I'll keep working on it."

It's just the will to win and be the best that made him so successful. Whether or not you like him is irrelevant, it's undeniable how successful he became because of his attitude and will to win.

Huge Apple fan and have been for years, but I don't disagree. It's really not the norm how SJ treated his role at Apple. Fortunately, that's what makes them interesting to me and why I love their products. It's all in the details.

I can't wait to watch Tim Cook cary the torch as we enter a new era of Apple.
