The Mirror by a mile. Vocal style, emotional lyrics, guitar riffs, drums; all of these beat "Lie". Of course I love "lie" but nowhere close to "The Mirror".

"The Mirror" stomps all over "Lie".

Lie is a very un-special song to me.  The Mirror at least sounds kind of badass, and the SDV bit at the end is cool.  So I went with that.

Both.  I like The Mirror for the chunk factor and lyrics.  Lie for Petrucci's work, especially the outro solo.   :metal

Like them both, but if I had to give an edge it would be to The Mirror.

Lie...I always assumed it was pretty popular so was pretty surprised to see how many people don't like it.

I wouldn't say there are a lot of people who don't like it.  Out of thousands of DT fans, 36 have voted they like The Mirror more, and of those, a far amount have said in the thread that they still like both songs considerably.

In any case, they're both phenominal songs.  I prefer The Mirror, but I'll gladly listen to either one at any given moment.

Pretty much this.

Both awesome songs, and I prefer to listen to them in succession. I guess I like "The Mirror" a tad more, but I voted for "like them both equally" because they're inseparable for me.

Pretty much this for me as well. I can't think of one without the other.

The Mirror.

Lie is my least favorite song on Awake; probably by a sizable margin.

Mr. Ister

The Mirror.  Oh, how I would love to be able to sing half as well as James does in The Mirror.  His delivery is absolutely perfect.  It's such refined rage.  Lie isn't bad, but The Mirror sticks out a lot more.

CrimsonSunrise

Now THIS is the first one I couldn't decide...

Zantera

I love them both, The Mirror works as a great "intro" to Lie.
In my spare time I make music! Check it out. :)

hello Mirror...
yeah, The Mirror for me.

The "puppies riff" is awesome, lyrics are better than in Lie, James delivers them well and the SDV reprise is also clever. And the LSFNY version with the Mirror reprise in Lie is the best version. But nevertheless The Mirror and Lie work good when played back to back as well.

EmilSumm

I really like both, but The Mirror wins easily.

abydos

I like them both equally. There was a good amount of time where I thought they were one song when I first was getting into DT. A friend of mine gave me a cassette and since they flow into each other...

fsh3702

from the poll it seems our sense of art appreciation is more or less the same.

Jamesman42

The Mirror is better than Lie.

I love the lyrics to Lie, and the vocal delivery.

Also, it's ironically funny that Blob likes The Mirror, even though it contains a bit SDV. I don't know, just made me laugh, for a moment.

But I stopped laughing.

I have nothing against the main theme of SDV, as long as it's not repeated to death in a slow drone for 7 minutes :neverusethis:

Finally we disagree on something! :lol

I like them both. Although the ending of Lie starts to drift off a bit I still dig it the same.

MykeHavoc

I like them both. The Mirror is superior track musically and lyrically in a matter of substance, but Lie is a great catchy track with a great riff and groove.

Mebert78

I had to go with "like them both equally."  To me, those two songs go together.  It's hard for me to separate them.

Sorry for the late post  ;D

Definitely The Mirror. That song is fantastic! I mean, I like Lie and all, but the Mirror kicks it's ass. One of the reasons both songs are so good, IMO, is LaBries kickass vocals all the way through. You can say the lyrics suck, but the delivery definitely does not.

Best part of The Mirror has got to be the reprise of the chorus, at the end of the song, when LaBrie screams out "I'll never hurt you again!" and holds it for what seems like minutes..  :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal

For a second I thought Blob was back... and then I voted.

kartmaze2

Voted The Mirror, but together they're dynamite!
I love the transition, and I almost always listen to them consecutively.

Couldn't reason my vote any better than this.

Same here  :P
Awake and Scenes From A Memory have the best transitions.

Silver Tears

Nearly picked The Mirror but the solo in Lie brings it up :D
