WELL DO YOU!?

My favorite band, they're amazing
I like them
They're average
Meh
Not really
No
KEVIN MOORE!?!?!?!?
My all-time favorite band
One of my all-time favorite bands

Arcaeus

One of my all-time favorite bands. They were #1 for awhile, then got knocked down to #2 after I discovered Pain of Salvation. They fell down to #4-#5 for awhile after that, but they've recently gone back up to #2 with how solid BC&SL is

Rafael Guerra

Dream Theater showed me what music is. Now I love music.

ResultsMayVary

One of my all-time favorite bands.

TheVoxyn

Not my all-time favorite band (like they used to be) but still really like them.

Metropolis Pt. II

I've been listening to DT since late 2004. They became my favorite band in early 2005, and they're still my favorite. I really admire their work.

I actually forgot writing a more extended version of why they're one of my favourites, which is pretty important, I believe...

The most important reason is that this was the band that showed me a whole new world of music. I listened almost only to heavy/thrash/power metal before (with some exceptions, U2 being the greatest and most important one :D), and I approached Octavarium as a metal album, even if a bit different. Over time I realised how different - and interesting - this genre is, and my favourite, being Panic Attack for a long time, changed eventually to the title song. I listened to almost only DT for like half a year, I think (getting SFAM 3 months later had a big influence on that), and then started getting interested in other progressive bands. Also, DT made me look at music in a different way - not just the song as a whole, but I actually started to notice how each instrument works, I started to see the difference between guitar and bass :lol and just started to look deeper into music. Now, obviously, I listen to many other bands, but DT still has a special place in my heart, and probably always will have. There are four bands I absolutely love, each for different reasons (one is common for all four, though: a lot of depth and atmosphere in music), and DT is definitely one of them.

Over time I also learned that there is plenty of interesting music outside of metal, but that, young Padawan, is a different story... :lol

pogoowner

One of my favorite bands of all-time. However, I'm not really much of a fan of the current band. I pretty much like each successive album less than the previous, with the band taking a steep downhill plunge with Systematic Chaos, and even further with BCASL.

MirzekDT

They share the "favorite band" position with Porcupine Tree for me

PlaysLikeMyung

One of my all time favorite bands.

Rush will always hold the number one spot

KevShmev

Easily an all-time top 10 band for me, but not top 3 like they were eight or nine years ago.  Still up there, though. :tup :tup

I voted for KEVIN MOORE.  :coolio

nightmare_cinema

They're my hands down favourite band, have been for the ... 5/6 years since I got into them. Only porcupine tree come close, but no one since I've loved dream theater has stolen their crown in my life ;D They are like everything I ever wanted (even if I didn't know it) in music rolled up in one crazily incredible perfect package of awesomeness. It's like they sit and decide to write music for me.

I'm actually thinking seriously about a dream theater tattoo, been printing out some stuff and I'm going to the tattoo parlour in the next couple of weeks to get them transferred onto me in ink to see how they look before I take the plunge.

I don't really like Dream Theater that much, but I had a pen and some paper, so what the fuck.

CHINO IS LOSE

Darkes7

Sorry for noob question but - the "I had some blabla, so what the fuck" joke is related to the Live in Tokyo DVD with Kevin Moore saying that?

veronica

Yup, the "I had some blabla, so what the fuck" joke is related to the Live in Tokyo DVD with Kevin Moore saying that.

PixelDream

One of my all-time favorite bands and one I can always get back to. I'll never get (at least that's what I think) bored from them permanently.

Birch Boy

They're on of my favorite bands of all-time along with Alice In Chains, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Metallica, AC/DC, and Megadeth.

Quadrochosis

DT, PT and Opeth are my top 3, but DT is always a little bit ahead of the other two.

TAC

been a fan since Images, and my love for them has only continued to grow.  I admit that I had a short affair with a few other bands when SC came out, but I repented and came back shortly after

HEATHEN!!!

They are "one of my favorite bands", however on most days.. the are "my favorite band".
I list my "Big 4" as
Dream Theater
Iron Maiden
UFO
Alice Cooper

But I still probably listen to Dream Theater at least 5:1 ofer UFO/ Maiden and 10:1 over Alice Cooper.
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.

LudwigVan

Dream Theater is somewhere in the middle of my top 10 bands.

Samsara

I voted "not really" since there wasn't an option for me. Dream Theater was my second favorite band throughout the mid-late-1990s. They then went off on a direction that didn't fit me as a listener. I continued to see them live (and still may) through 2007, electing to skip the Octavarium tour, and both installments of the Prog Nation tour. I have seen every tour from 1998-present, otherwise.

So I'm "not really" a fan of DT's last few studio records. But I'm an old school fan that once had them as high as #2 on the list and I still support them.

I like them because they are one of my favorite bands.  :metal

Yeah...

Unlovely

I like them.

Has been my fav band, but my taste in music has changed so much that now they're not even in my top 10.

:lol right, I remember that, thank you.

Scurvy!Dreams

Not really any more. When I first listened to BCSL I immediately recognized it as a very good Dream Theater album and knew that DTF would embrace it, but the album really does nothing for me. So if I'm not into an album that encapsulates the band so well, I'd say I'm not a fan of that band.

TheOutlawXanadu

#62
I wouldn't say I don't like them anymore because, for example, just a couple of nights ago I listened to snippets of SDoIT* and really enjoyed it, but at the same time, even though I recognized BC&SL as being a solid DT record when it came out, I never have any desire to listen to it. Ever. And when I do I usually change songs after five minutes or so.

* "About to Crash" was so good.

Definitely one of my all time favorite bands but like Scurvy and Outlaw I'm growing somewhat detached (big shock). It seems upsetting to me that I can't get the same excitement listening to the same songs I used to love years ago. I do cycles with bands so who knows, maybe they're next.

TheOutlawXanadu

Yes. They are my favorite band. I have lots of favorites, and they are #1.

This is exactly my feeling. Had this question been asked around SFAM/6DoIT, I would have voted "Number One band of all time". Hoping for a comeback!

I've loved them ever since I&W. They're definitely not the same band, but they are the same guys. It's cool to see how they've progressed. I can see why not everyone can stay with them at the same level and love everything they do, but I really have. They're the only band I can say that about; I guess I should have picked the all-time favorite option.
