I don't even like it all that much, there's a couple cool passages that I feel might have made into cool songs if they expanded upon it.  I admittingly just want to see it just to see something different. I think it would be safe to say, if they did it, there would be little to no reaction from the audience  :lol

JMX had nothing to do with the writing of it....it was made for a video game....and it's about as basic of a DT song as you can get....it's just generic and not really all that good anyway.

Well its written and recorded and released by Dream Theater.  It's simply that, a Dream THeater song.  But after DT played TBOT I noticed MP saying something along the lines of "now having played every DT album song from my time in the band" (paraphrasing) which makes me think that it not being on an album, does kind of lower the bar for it.

I guess now that TBOT has been played, a lot of us DT nerds will be saying we want Raw Dog as the next rare DT song to be pulled out. I remember mentioning this at the RCMH meet up and I wasn't the only one who would like to see it.

Y'all might want to check this recent thread:  https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php/topic,59389.0.html

I don't recall how long it usually takes for live albums to come out. If the Paris show was late November 2024, does anyone have a sense of when we could expect the live release? Is November 2025 reasonable?

My guess, before end of year would totally be possible. Has the band said anything lately regarding it?  Without any update, hard to gauge the release timing though.

The new Epica album came with a live concert on blu-ray, which was filmed last fall, so that was a roughly 6 month turn around. But it's not a standalone release to get its own artwork and packaging/distribution since it was part of the album packaging digipack.

Score came out in August 2006, a little over 4 months after the RCMH show. I think a summer release is feasible and would be best for them. Maybe it would get people excited for the fall tour to have something new on Spotify, etc.

Score was able to be released that quickly because the band took that entire summer off from touring, allowing them (but mainly Portnoy) to fully focus on that project.

So... they put out an album to push the 40th Anniversary tour, and then put out the 40th Anniversary Tour live album just in time for the Album Tour... :lol
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

Kind of makes sense though, another product to advertise and sell along with the tour.  Promotion.  It seems like every band has something new coming out when they tour these days, often a song, but even a live album is a good reason to hit the road and promote it. That's literally what Temperance just did in Europe (released a "live from europe" album recorded the year prior then released it right before this years European tour.

It makes sense in some universe, haha :rollin

EPIC Outro

Maybe they are going to package the 40th anniversary live album with Parasomnia in full? I do believe Portnoy said they will be recording another live album when they play Parasomnia all the way through.

I'm actually looking forward to this live release very much now. After the release of the Parasomnia album and the 40th I'm going through next big DT thing withdrawal lol. Hoping we get Parasomnia tour dates soon, but this Live release would be great to hold me over till then! Lol

Yea, the last six months or so I've listened to more DT than at any point in a long time. Things have definitely slowed down now but the 40th Anniversary DVD plus Parasomnia tour will be a great revival. :metal

Not sure if you saw this post or not, but this might help set the record straight for you:

BTW, on a completely different note, remember those two guys at the Chicago show that took a photo of you and your son before the gig with the stage in the background? One of them was me.  :lol  Bummer that we didn't know who each other was at the time, but I saw your photo from when you hung out by the bus after the gig and recognized you. Anyhoo, back to discussing the upcoming live release...

I could see the two shows being packaged together similarly to Metallica's Binge and Purge package, maybe with a few extras as exclusives to sweeten the deal, and then also released individually as well without the extras.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

Honestly, I could wait for a proper Parasomnia Tour live album in like late 2026, with some 40th Anniversary Tour songs thrown in as bonus tracks. Or, give us a 40th Anniversary Tour as a new LNFA release to tide us over.

Aw man.....what a bummer! I guess there was normal way to know but a missed opportunity. Dang

And thanks for that info on Raw Dog. When it was initially released I read it as MP, JR and JP wrote the music. Thanks for clarifying.

Still doesn't change my opinion on the actual song though. It's a DT lite....paint by numbers song with no redeeming qualities for me.
