Second the support for the Intrepid.  And not just because Kiss had their reunion press conference on the ship back in '96.

yeah, that too. Don't have to go much further down than the accessible subways to see them though, or sometimes right on the street

Quote from: El Barto on March 07, 2025, 10:47:50 AMIf it's the sort of thing you're into the Intrepid is pretty good. The static aircraft weren't the best, but walking around a carrier and a SSBN is pretty interesting.

I did that when my son and I visited in '18.

Last time I was there; right there on 3rd Avenue.  Size of a small cat.

(Empire State Building)

Quote from: Stadler on February 06, 2025, 11:24:48 AMJoe, I know you're a big fan of certain photos of Queen through the years; that Kiss photo is like that for me. SO iconic, so evocative of that time (both in the band and in my life).

More iconic than these photos from the Empire State Building? ;) btw...never go to the top when it's 20 degrees!

RSVP sent - thank you again for all the effort organizing this, looks like a pretty massive meetup/pre-show!  I'm hoping to get into the city early afternoon - will have my son and a few of his friends w me so they can play around in the city while I'm at the show.

TheOutlawXanadu

My family flies in on Friday afternoon. Won't be attending the pre-show but I hope everyone has a great time! It was almost ten years ago I went to see them at RCMH for The Astonishing tour. :metal

Some rain maybe on Thursday/Friday but Saturday is looking dry so far and not too cold.

Saturday is looking like a beautiful day.

Wondering if I should drive or take train

Same, but with congestion pricing and parking, I am thinking train.

brakkum

Can't believe it's here! Flying in Friday to do some touristy junk, but stoked for the big show!

cramx3

Train for sure for me.

Actually just got a new phone charger when thinking about Saturday potentially being a long day out.  The new phones have a magnetic in them now so they have these new chargers with a magnet in them as well to stick to your phone and charge it without a cable.  It's small so easy to carry around all day in NYC.

Hey everyone,

Unfortunately things have come up on my end preventing me from attending this show.

I put up my ticket for sale on Stubhub. Orch3 Row O Seat 310. It's a singular seat and I've priced it at a slight loss. I just wanna try and recoup what I spent on it.

The other tickets in the area are considerably more expensive. So if you're looking for a fairly priced single ticket, have at it.

Mind if I ask what touristy junk you're up to?

I'm flying in on Thursday.

For people looking for stuff to do in NYC, Disturbed is playing MSG Friday night. Billy Cobham is also playing some cool fusion at the Blue Note that entire weekend.

Nice! The main thing for me is I really want to get to the 9/11 museum, I've wanted to "experience" that ever since it opened (I was 13 when the attacks happened, so they had a big impact on me). Probably try and get to a museum as well if I can.

My wife and I visited that for the 1st  time for our anniversary last October.  It's a humbling experiance.

The 9/11 museum is amazing.

Amazingly, I still can't.  I went to the site a couple years after, but it's still a bit too much for me.

Cecilia

The touristy thing I plan to do is visit the Harry Potter store.

Like Stadler, I can't go to the museum. I had been to the site a few times after the attack, but possibly not since the start of the construction on the freedom tower when everything was hollowed out.

There is a Harry Potter store??? As a New Yorker I'm disappointed in myself that I don't know that lol.

And speaking as someone that was a young teenager in a NYC middle school when 9/11 happened I completely understand the difficulty of going to that memorial.

Adami

I haven't been to the Harry Potter store in a few years, but back then you had to sign up for a reserved time. Not sure if you still need to, but good to check to be safe.

Haha I'm a NYer too and have never been. Originally from Queens, live in upper Westchester now.

Looks like no reservations. They do a queue if it's exceptionally busy.

9/11 I was in high school. An LIE overpass is two blocks from my high school. I heard the sirens all day. Saw the cloud for months, smelled the burning for a few days.

Same here, moved out of the city to westchester abt 10 years ago with my wife. I don't miss the city lol. Now that I work in upstate westchester I have no reasons to enter the city. DT is the exception 😂

Yeah, I just remember it being so surreal. You could hear a pin drop. I remember a girl in my class losing both her parents. You could see the skyline engulfed in smoke from the window. Us NYers will never forget that day.

Plane is boarding. Chap in an Opeth shirt just wandered past. He's on his way to see DT, too  :metal

cramx3

Went over to the 9/11 memorial for the first time in awhile last year as we showed some of my gf's college friends around the city for their first time.  We didn't do the museum, but just being in the area is worth it.  It's quite nice what they've done, totally worth seeing but understandable if it's too tough.  Also was in high school, in NJ watching 9/11 on TV.

He seemed even more introverted than me and ignored me in the customs queue

On the LIRR now en route to Grand Central. Then it's a five minute walk, apparently.
