For giggles made a DT playlist by adding one song from each album based only on the 1st sound bite that pops in my head when I look at the album cover.

What song pops in your head just by looking at the cover of each?

My playlist:

1. Only a Matter of Time
2. Pull Me Under
3. The Mirror
4. A Change of Seasons
5. New Millennium
6. Scene Two: I. Overture 1928 (anyone else feeling SFAM 3 in 2028?)
7. The Glass Prison
8. As I Am
9. Octavarium
10. Constant Motion
11. A Nightmare To Remember
12. Breaking All Illusions
13. Surrender to Reason
14. The Gift of Music
15. Pale Blue Dot
16. A View From The Top Of The World
17. Night Terror

For me, it's the first track from each album.  When the image of the cover art comes to mind, the first thing I think of is how the album starts.  I don't really have any association with the new album yet, as it isn't out.  I haven't listened to the new songs enough to really have them in my mind.

Fun concept, let's do it:

1. A Fortune In Lies
2. Another Day
3. Voices
4. New Millennium
5. Beyond This Life
6. Disappear
7. As I Am
8. The Answer Lies Within
9. Constant Motion
10. A Nightmare To Remember
11. Bridges In The Sky
12. The Looking Glass
13. A New Beginning
14. S2N
15. Answering The Call

I'm surprised at some of picks, considering some times they're some of my least favourite songs from their albums.

I think for most options they're the first thing that starts playing every time. For Awake, SDOIT and Black Clouds, the songs sometimes change.

When Dream and Day Unite: Ytse Jam
Images and Words: Metropolis
Awake: Caught in a Web
Falling Into Infinity: Lines in the Sand
Scenes From a Memory: Home
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence: Blind Faith
Train of Thought: As I Am
Octavarium: Panic Attack
Systematic Chaos: Constant Motion
Black Clouds & Silver Linings: The Count of Tuscany
A Dramatic Turn of Events: Bridges in the Sky
Dream Theater: Surrender to Reason
The Astonishing: Our New World
Distance Over Time: Pale Blue Dot
A View From the Top of the World: Awaken the Master

I think I'll make a Spotify playlist of these, but I'll change the order so it flows better.

If they can come up with a concept that works, I would absolutely be down with a Metropolis Pt. III someday. However, I would find it infinitely more hilarious if they make an "Overture 2028" that has absolutely nothing to do with "Metropolis".  :lol

Well... maybe it's not actually that funny, but it would certainly get a chuckle out of me.

It's hard to separate the idea of "first song you think of when you see the album cover" versus "first song you think of when you think of the album" versus "favorite song on the album."  It would be a little easier if someone could simply flash images of the album covers at random.  Nevertheless:

WDADU - Ytse Jam
I&W - PMU
Awake - The Silent Man
FII - Trial of Tears
SFAM - TDOE
SDOIT - SDOIT
TOT - As I Am
8VM - 8VM
SC - Constant Motion
BC&SL - ANTR
ADTOE - BAI
DT12 - Illumination Theory
TA - ummmm....
DOT - Barstool Warrior

Hi there, I love these silly lists and alredy had mine lol:

WDADU - Only a matter of Time. (one of the few that do better with Charlie on vocals imo).

I&W - Take the Time. It was the first "omg I love this prog thing" for me.

Awake - Voices. I like Scarred More, but whenever I try to make an image in my head that represents the whole album, It always coincide with voices.

FII - Lines in the sand. I don't revisit FII that much, but when i do, I do hell's kitchen and lines in the sand mostly.

SFAM - Beyond this life. I don't listen to SFAM as individual songs, it's always full album, and my favorite Is home, but I really think that BTL and its middle instrumental section Is kinda the pinnacle of DT style prog metal.

SDOIT - Goodnight kiss. Me see cover, me hear solo.

TOT - This dying soul. Tacatacata taca taca.

Octavarium - Octavarium. Need i say More?

SC - TMOLS

BC&SL - TCOT. First DT song I ever heard, the intro Will randomly play in my head mĂșltiple times a day.

ADTOE - BAI - It fits the cover perfectly, warm, optimistic, somehow calming. Best DT song since Octavarium.

DT - The enemy inside. I think this is the worst DT album, but It starts pretty well.

TA - Three Days. C'moooooon this shi is fire, James gives perfect Disney villain vibes, the instrumentation Is so dynamic and the outro??? Goofy asf.

DOT - Fall into the light.

AVFTTOTW - Sleeping giant. One of my favorite DT covers, has a similar impact on my as octavarium and ADTOE, open space, light colors. The song goes various Places and idk It just fits.

Parasomnia - idk i got not leaks. On a sidenote, I'd love the night terror cover art to be the album cover, just add the Shadow Man somewhere and that's It.
No cringe? No prog.
