I don't think Derek wishes to be involved with DT/MP again either since what happened with SOA :lol

Not to mention just generally speaking and acting like an asshole.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on December 11, 2014, 08:19:46 PMHef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

you forgot dissing the ipads??  :rollin
our guy Derek uses REAL instruments like the badass he is

OpenYourEyes311

Yes, REAL instruments like... keyboards...

Quote from: gborland on September 24, 2024, 10:03:43 AMDT have had some amazing openers over the years. SB, PT, SX, etc.

And also some shit ones.

Yes.  ;). (Porcupine Tree and Symphony X aren't "shit", but honestly, not a fan of either.)

What happened with SOA?

Disclaimer: All opinions stated are my own unless otherwise specified. I do not personally know any present or former members of DT. From time to time where the context is or should be obvious, I may decline to explicitly label my words as opinion. I cannot predict the future.

TheBarstoolWarrior

Jeez what did JLB do to Derek to warrant badmouthing?

Portnoy has "denied" this, but going by statements from Derek, Bumblefoot and Jeff, apparently the other guys (Mike and Billy, for different reasons) didn't want to commit to making new stuff with them once the lockdowns hit and the band faded into nothing. What ended up being the WGD album initially started out as SOA3 by Ron and Derek. Those two moved on and started a new band, while Jeff joined the other band Ron is in, Art of Anarchy.

I imagine Derek isn't too happy with what happened, with Mike ditching pretty much everything he had going on to rejoin DT, when they were supposed to be the "new kings of prog metal" :lol

And this is just Derek being bitter towards DT, but that didn't start showing (publicly, at least) until he started working with MP again in SOA.

Interesting. Maybe it was a matter of priorities with Mike having so many projects. I personally would have been all for another SOA album so that stinks that the project is dead.

FWIW, I think Whom Gods Destroy is a much better band than SOA. You should check their album if you haven't already.

Maybe, but it was DOA.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

If SOA was already "faded into nothing" then I don't see how anyone could view WGD anything but DOA. Even if you liked the album, it just seems like a band destined to do nothing. Are they working on a tour or follow up album? It sucks saying that because I like Bumblefoot, but that's sadly how I feel here.

Schurftkut

they are working on the 2nd album, and the plan is to then tour as they'll have enough material for liveshows

Yes, they said they'll be more active starting in 2025 with a second album and a tour. Also, Angra is going on indefinite hiatus next year, so I guess it helps clear up Bruno's schedule for WGD.

Exactly. I know Zappa was a musical genius as was Prince, but while I envy fans of both men who can enjoy a treasure trove of music in their vast respective vaults (oh how I wish DT wouldn't limit themselves to just 70-80 minutes of music when in the studio, just when the creative juices are flowing), for the life of me, I can't get into either one of those guys. Props to everyone who can.

I'll be honest when I first saw a dream sonic advertised, I just felt like it was a regular show with two openers and not a festival. I feel like the way it was portrayed as a festival was a little fluffy to begin with.

I'm one of them. Frank was and still is massively influential to me. (and yes, I love both Prince and Michael Jackson, although I'm more of a MJ fan)

Yeah, it's really just a tour not a festival. But since they gave it a name, I would have assumed the thought would be to do this tour again and hopefully it makes a name for itself to become "a thing".  I don't expect that to happen now.  It wasn't a big success and the DT world has changed.  I feel like if anything, they go back to Progressive Nation tour labelling if they do something similar.
