Just got on my train back to the hotel. Cried during The Best of Times. Tearing up even thinking about it, man. What a great evening.
Tower of ivory, house of gold? How could a woman be a tower of ivory or a house of gold?

TBOT was such a surprise but my god was it good. So happy I made it and got to meet some of y'all!

I ran into the violin player walking back to my hotel and he seemed very surprised that anyone recognized him  :lol

Shadow2222

Like, I'm happy for y'all, but I'm also pretty upset it wasn't played at other shows lol. I hope it isn't a "Disappear" situation where it basically never gets played again, that solo deserves to be heard

The Letter M

They played TBOT?!?! Amazing. Absolutely jaw-dropping I'm sure.

-Marc.

Now that's a surprise! Did they cut TITL, though? (according to setlist fm they did)

TITL was cut, presumably to make room for TBOT. Also, no Home or TSCO

Getting back from RCMH...yep, The Best of Times was a pretty amazing surprise. A treat, for sure.

Great show!!

TheBarstoolWarrior

The song of the night was TBOT. It was a fun evening with many great classics and a beautiful surprise at the encore. JP crushed that guitar solo.

I'm looking forward to the Parasomnia tour now.

Cavalry of Despair

What an awesome show! Easily the best DT concert I've ever seen. I had of course spoiled myself on the main setlists immediately after the London show happened, so I was anticipating Octavarium for five months and it did not disappoint. All the while though, I was wondering whether they'd do anything special for the final/homecoming show. Everything was going as expected until the "In loving memory, Howard Portnoy 1940-2009" card came on screen. At first I thought "huh, I don't think they've been doing that in the encore footage I've seen online!". Then the ticking clock came in...

Long story short, I've got a headache now from having to hold back tears for over 10 straight minutes.

I'm really glad they played that one.  I do hope they'll play it again sometime, but I've hoped for Disappear for a long time now and it hasn't happened.

I can see how The Best of Times might be too emotional for MP to want to play every night on a tour.

Just give me an official recording from this performance (audio only is fine) and I'll be happy.

Hey man, I only got a quick 40-second clip of the guitar solo with shit camera quality, but if you want I can maybe try and upload it someplace private and PM the link to you!

EDIT: PM sent!

right there with ya! Could NOT BELIEVE it when Jordan started on the piano! My eyes were welled up the entire song! :hefdaddy  :hefdaddy  :hefdaddy  :hefdaddy  :hefdaddy  :hefdaddy  :hefdaddy

Progmaniac1988

Definitely one of the best shows I've seen from DT, and I've seen them like 18ish times lol. CT was amazing, but this radio city show was on FIRE!

DTiwbwMP

Tonight RCMH was my 49th DREAM THEATER show since 1992 and this HAS to be a top 5 ALL TIME DT show for me! :hefdaddy  :hefdaddy  :hefdaddy

Wow amazing! That song feels very different to listen to when a parent dies. That solo was in my head for some reason today, I really hope there's a release of this performance in the upcoming 40th anniversary video.
Devour Feculence!

EPIC Outro

I hope The Best of Times and the tracks that weren't recorded on the European leg find their way into the Parasomnia leg and an eventual recording!

hefdaddy42

Wow, very exciting that they found such a way to make the NY show extra special!

This.  It's a Top 15 DT song for me.

Having watched videos of it now, that has such a well-produced background video that I'd be shocked if all that was done for a one-off. My gut now tells me this was a premiere but not the last time it'll be seen this year

He pretty much nailed that thing start to finish. I was saying to my friend it's funny he plays TBOT which should be one of his harder solos and then flubs the PMU solo right after which is a million times easier  :lol

Whaaaaaat? they debuted The Best of Times? that's beyond awesome!!!

I was reading through MP's comments online and a guy said that his father passed away and wished for the song to be in the setlist, and I thought "yeah sure, good sentiment but Mike is not gonna play a song so gut-wrenchingly dear to him just because of a fan suggestion" AND THEY DID! I mean obviously it was not for that specific fan, but still....!!!

The only irony is that they did not play Home at their Home show  :lol

I hope everyone there had the greatest evening possible  :metal

It's honestly a good thing I wasn't able to go to this show, because even just watching the performance of TBoT on YouTube made me tear up. If I was there live I would have been an emotional wreck.

From the clips of the show I've watched on YouTube, the mix sounded bang on. Hope it sounded as good in person

SeRoX

It's great to hear TBOT see the stage light. I think James sang it beautifully.

lonestar

Really happy this one finally saw the live stage, I've always loved it

You wouldn't have been alone, it hit a lot of us the exact same way

My grandfather passed (expectedly) on Friday before I got into NYC, so it felt very special to be able to be there for that song last night.

Great show last night in NYC. My one criticism was some of the random video stuff they played during instrumental sections that had nothing to do with the album artworks -- like the dolphins during "Octavarium." I think DT should consider having a live camera that focuses on close-up shots of the the band members playing and that camera's footage can be put on the stage screens at different moments -- like during solos when we want to see their fingers going. DT is playing such big venues now that the people far away from the stage can't see their fingers moving and the musicianship is such a big part of DT. It's time for them to consider putting close ups of themselves playing live on the screen during solos instead of the random images that have nothing to do with the songs. Other than that, loved the show!

Fun show. Again highlight to me was V-SoC-8V.

The Best of Times was great last night, my oldest was a newborn when it came out, so being there with him hit me in a different way, where I'm the one that's going to exit the stage first. An emotional moment with the next generation, and they absolutely should work it in to future shows.

I agree. At times it was fine but often it was distracting and I had to keep reminding myself for focus on the musicians and not be visual.

Quote from: Lethean on March 21, 2025, 10:39:56 PMThat's kind of a bummer that the set was shortened.  I think A Rite of Passage was cut.  It looks like shows that have Panic Attack also had The Dark Eternal Night instead of A Rite of Passage.

A Rite of Passage/Constant Motion/As I Am vs. Panic Attack/Under a Glass Moon/The Dark Eternal Night.  Some stops also got Home as the start as the encore (either set, I think).
