Agreed, everything about it is amazing, amazing intro keyboard sounds, amazing main riff, guitar solo, bass parts, etc

I go back and forth on Peruvian Skies. I like the atmospheric bits a lot more than the heavy bits, and I think the lyrics are really strong, but both halves of the song are a bit derivative of Pink Floyd (or Rush's The Necromancer) and Metallica respectively. I have to sort of be in the mood for it. It's not bad, it's not my favorite, and there are other songs from that session that I would have preferred to have made the album.

It's an uneven record for sure but the highlights for me, LITS, HK and TOT more than makes up for it.
And production wise it's the best one they've had. Not saying it would work for something like Train Of Thought or SC but the openess of the mix makes the arrangements really stand out.

Falling Into Infinity is a funny album. It has some of their best material (Peruvian Skies, Hollow Years, Lines in the Sand, Take Away My Pain and Trial of Tears) and some stuff that isn't so great (You Not Me, Burning My Soul and Just Let Me Breathe). But at least it's all still kinda fun. Some of the stuff in more recent years seems more boring and vanilla than being bad. Falling Into Infinity is never boring.

I get not liking a song, but the 'understand' component has always confused me.

What's to understand? You don't like it; I (and others) do.

Either way, I think the song is an absolute gem and features a more 'in the pocket' arrangement that I wish the band would return to from time to time.

I gave this a listen on Monday. It's a fine album to spin every once in a great while. Anna Lee was particularly nice for a song I don't ever think about.

Burning My Soul is a better song than I think people give credit for.
\o\ lol /o/

It has aged well for me but the lead single, Burning My Soul REALLY threw me heavily off when I first heard it on the radio. Almost didn't buy it...

Didn't know Burning My Soul was released to radio as a single. It's easily my least favorite song on the album (or of those sessions).

Same, I just assumed nothing from FII got airplay for some reason
edit: probably because I recall on the Five Years commentary they mentioned the Hollow Years video never got any airplay on TV

Usually if a song has high appraisal from a fanbase, there's some element to the song that can stand out. I hear that song and it feels like one of the most boring slow late '90s songs I used to hear on the radio. Which is funny because nowadays I like throwback late '90s alt rock radio, but this song... the vocals don't do it for me, the melody doesn't do it for me, the chorus feels like it ruins any momentum potentially setup by the verse. I have wondered why this song seems to be hailed such a major track, and this is the thing that is about understanding. I can figure out why people like all kinds of DT songs that I only give a 5/10 or 6/10 to, but this one I'm unsure
Half of my posts are satire; the other half are serious. If you can't tell which half you're looking at, it's probably the former. I enjoy busting chops amongst likeminded fellows. Where better to feel at home than among the fans of the world's most fun band? :)

Only song that still I actively dislike is Anna Lee. Divorced from the context and the baggage at that time, I've really come to appreciated pretty much everything but Anna Lee. Kevin Shirley did a great job with it too.

I am thoroughly enjoying the LNF FII demos. This is one of my favorite LNF records. We get James! Personally, I really dig Hells Kitchen embedded in BMS. I am not much for the instrumentals and this made me appreciate HK more.

Same here. I've said it more than once before, but the decision of extracting the instrumental section that would become Hell's Kitchen was by far the best production choice that was made in those sessions (imo) :) I absolutely love HK, and I could definitely do without BMS.
