Let's just hope that this gets better. All we have now is hope. It is a fairly bleak situation.

Maybe they'll play Raw Dog on the next tour so James can really show off the pipes

I've been hearing a lot about this 'Raw Dog', but I can't find it on any of their albums. What is it?

It's an instrumental track they recorded and released in 2010 for the video game EP "God Of War: Blood And Metal". It's the last track they recorded with MP before he left.

Maybe they'll just play Motorhead tunes. Iron Fist and Ace of Spades albums straight through.

TheHoveringSojourn808

DT is known for covering albums in full. They've previously done Powerslave, Dark Side of the Moon, and some others. I could see them dusting off some Motorhead for the first show back

It wasn't Powerslave it was The Number of the Beast. If you could see them covering Motörhead, you should see an optometrist.

Same. When they were doing that before I thought it was so cool. I was also 19 and thought wine coolers were good.

As has been said before, you will know ahead of time when this happens, assuming they resume this tradition - and thus far there's nothing to indicate that they will. Remember, it only happens when they do a two-night stand in a city on an Evening With tour, and it will be performed during the second set of the second night.

What does that mean?
• If they do a two-night stand and it's not an Evening With tour, no cover album.
• If they play a single show in a city on an Evening With tour, no cover album.
• If they happen to do a two-night stand on an Evening With tour? At least in the past, yes they did a cover album, but this was after they did a roughly 3-hour show the night before full of DT material and performed a first set on the second night (probably about 90 minutes) of mostly different DT material from the first night. Then, after the second set covering another band's album, they come back out and perform an encore. So out of about 5.5 to 6 hours of music played over the course of two nights, only about 40-55 minutes of that will be of a cover album. And you'll know ahead of time which night it is that they're covering it so that you can skip that show, if you're that repulsed by the idea.

So no need to get bent out of shape over this, assuming it even happens again.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

I think the sentiment was more if they did this unannounced on their first show back. Which, as you said, is an impossibility. (obviously)

Right, exactly, if they did this unannounced. At any show. Because it wouldn't be so much "getting bent out of shape" as it would be about not getting what I paid for (DT music live) but instead wasting the audience's time. It would be a waste of my time and my ticket purchase to sit through some other band's whole album that I don't even like. I'm sure I'm not the only fan around who would see it that way.

But if that's not how it would be handled then there's no point in my worrying about what I would do with that unwanted 40-50 minutes.

Ah right thank you, I always confuse those two Maiden albums haha

Also, I wouldn't see it, because I probably wouldn't get Two Evening With Shows in my city on any given tour, which is what I believe they go by when determining it. But i would hear it on a Mike P ortnoy bootleg  :police:

I think the opener of the London show is clearly going to be a cover of Debbie Gibson's Staying Together, which they will punctuate with James and Mike hugging it out at the end of the song.

Actually, the song played over the PA before they take the stage should be "Join Together" by The Who.  I'm not joking even a little bit.

When you hear this sound a-comin'
Hear the drummer drumming
Won't you join together with the band
We don't move in any 'ticular direction
And we don't make no collections
Won't you join together with the band
Do you really think I care
What you eat or what you wear
Won't you join together with the band
There's a million ways to laugh
Ev'ry one's a path
Come on and join together with the band
Everybody join together
Won't you join together
Come on and join together with the band
We need to join together
Come on join together
Come on and join together with the band
You don't have to play
You can follow or lead the way
Oh won't you join together with the band
We don't know where we're going
But the season's right for knowing
Oh won't you join together with the band
It's the singer not the song
That makes the music move along
Oh won't you join together with the band
This is the biggest band you'll find
It's as deep as it is wide
Come on and join together with the band
Join together
(Ev'rybody come on) join together
Join together with the band
Join together
(Ev'rybody come on) join together
Join together with the band
