I'll take Devin over Opeth anytime..

How about a co-headliner of Opeth and DT, or Devin Townsend and DT?

The bands just switch out who closes each night.

They are calling it a festival so I'd assume they wouldn't go with only 2 bands.

Same.

But we had Opeth, and now Devin, tour with DT before. I'd like to see something different for the next go around personally.

Same, not just because I've seen Opeth live, either.

Opposite. But someone said Queensryche, and I would concur if only it was also a reunion with Geoff Tate. And then he and James sang something at the end (there's some old footage of them singing together and it's epic). Now all I can hear in my head is Geoff singing Devin's part in TSCO. Hey, a girl can dream... ✨

But Opeth was like, 15 years ago. I think it's ok for a repeat now.

I think the two obvious choices are Gwar and Garfunkel and Oats.

Fair enough.  I guess I'm just not the biggest Opeth fan to want to see this again.  I saw Opeth with Mastadon a couple years ago, solid show, but I've just never really come around to Opeth.  They are also probably similar, maybe bigger draw, than DT so that's another reason it may not work out when 15 years ago it made more sense.

Yeah, at this point, DT and Opeth would prob have to be a co-headlining tour.

While kidding, I do think there's something to diversity. 3 bands that are all in very similar genres can get boring.

I'd love to see Seventh Wonder tour the US with DT, but Tommy just left and while the band says they will continue, who knows the future for them really.

How about DragonForce?

Ok that's my official lineup of choice:

DragonForce
Firewind
Dream Theater

Not sure who Firewind is but I'd imagine DragonForce would be a bit lost on a seated audience who attend to calmly watch people play their instruments. But I'd love to see DT try to be more DragonForcy on stage! That would be cool. Seeing JP bounce the guitar off his hip or JM run into the crowd.

Will Dream Theater continue to tour on their own or with one opening band, or do they want to only tour with Dreamsonic?  I'm sorry if this was already addressed.

I haven't seen it asked that way.

If they do this next summer, that is lining up to be the first leg of the new album's tour. Would be weird to start up a touring cycle for a new album with this, I would think.
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

I've wondered this too and at this point nobody knows for sure.  My guess is they will do both, at least for a couple more years.  They are still a creative band making new music and they will want to have enough stage time to showcase that new music.  A shorter Dreamsonic set doesn't allow for that, which is while I think they'll still be doing headlining shows in addition.

I was thinking this myself, I'd guess if they did it next summer, the new album may not actually be out yet so it could be a tour that maybe only the single is being played and then they follow up in the fall with a Europe tour supporting the album before coming back to the US in 2024. Who knows.

I hope you are right.  If I had to chose between a Dream Theater show and Dreamsonic, I would choose Dream Theater, especially an evening with.  As far as the subject of the post, I would definitely like to Symphony X as part of Dreamsonic.  As for the third band, I would love to see Watchtower, but they don't seem to be active.  So maybe Tony MacAlpine.

Herrick

If one of the bands was Pain of Salvation then it wouldn't even matter to me if the other band played regeaton. I'd still go.

Didn't that happen in '09? They only did a Prog Nation tour after Black Clouds came out and that was going to be it in the US until they were asked to open for Iron Maiden. From what I recall anyway.
