I like this song a lot but the people saying it doesn't sound like Rush to them are freaking me out. If Dream Theater said they licensed old Alex Lifesons recording for this song and remixed them I'd believe it.
To me it's more like Rush, Yes, and Boston mixed together but still Dream Theater.  That's about as melodic as you can get..  🎶

Yeah, I don't get how one could not hear it either. Alex Lifeson's influence on JP is so evident in this song, as it is in Looking Glass and many other songs. JP even mentions Rush when he talks about TT in the documentary.

JP has made it no secret that Rush is his favorite band of all time..   :coolio

Kotowboy

This is my weakest song on the new album.

It's like Barstool Warrior II - but not as good (imo obviously).

It's the only one that hasn't really clicked with me.

Not the first time I've freaked you out, baby.

I love this song so much, and I really hope they play it on a future tour - it's way too good to never be played live. The vocals at the end are practically made for an audience singalong!

Zydar

Easily my favourite song on the album. I hope MP will see it too and put it in the setlist further on.

I can see this song making a future setlist.
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.

Right there with you. While the solo is my go-to example when discussing the role context and taste play (i.e., play for the song) in constructing a lead, the song is, on the whole, a big time highlight for me from the MM years.

TheBarstoolWarrior

One of the great progressive DT songs. Love the cymbal work when the synth kicks in.

I used to think why is this random minor key section just thrown in here but I changed my mind. They tried something new and there's nothing wrong with it.

Agreed, 100%

Max Kuehnau

one of mine as well (and I love them all, all killer no filler to me)
All my natural instincts are begging me to stop
But somehow I carry on, heading for the top
A physical absurdity, a tremendous mental game
Helping me understand exactly who I am

Northern Lion

The chorus has such an awesome 80s feel to it and is so dang catchy. Absolutely love this song!

I too love that part, the whole ending section is probably my favorite part of the song.
Devour Feculence!
