The Alien Vs......

Off the top of my head, for me personally, these are the MM era songs that remind me of "The Alien" in length (for most) and uniqueness of arrangement (the ones I gravitate to when I want to play a DT track from a MM era album). Click on your fave and comment on if you think The Alien stacks up to the rest and if you are glad DT lead with something not trying to be a "hit"! I left off breaking all illusions/IT because for me those are in a totally different league.

I'm not sure what a "banger" is, in the context of the song choices, but "This Is The Life" is by far my favorite Mangini-era song and a top-ten song over all, so that one.

Sorry I know its a weird poll, Alien barely out a few hours - but these songs are the MM era ones that for me fit the profile of The Alien, and also happen to be the type of DT songs I personally play the most. Hoping to see everyones fave of the batch and also see if anyone thinks Alien would belong on this list!

At Wits End is the best MM era song imo and that includes Breaking All Illusions.  I wouldn't say the Alien stacks up to AWE but I do enjoy it.

Maybe there's another song or songs on the new album that would be a better fit.  Doesn't really make much sense to do a poll like this until we've heard the rest of the album.

I think I understand what he is trying to get at with the poll. Out of these songs, which one do you think sounds similar to The Alien? Is the correct?

Regardless, I chose Bridges In The Sky.

The heaviness of both is pretty similar. The JP solo at the beginning reminds me of the chorus and I feel like singing "and at last the time has come".

Under A Glass Moon (The middle solo section reminds me of the solo section of Under A Glass Moon)
Lost Not Forgotten (JP's actual solo is quite similar to the one in this song)
Bridges In The Sky (This one is the epic quality of this song and the epic quality of The Alien)
The Enemy Inside (The pacing is similar to this one)

Of the songs in your poll, I went with Barstool. It's my second favorite MM era song behind BAI (with Bridges in the Sky not too far behind in third).

I wasn't sure the point of the poll so I compared it to Pale Blue Dot. Similar feel songs/themes, but Alien is better in every way.
