I don't think any band should do a song or album about CV19.

Why not...

I mean Haken released an album. Called Virus during the middle of the pandemic and it's about a virus mutating the patient into a cockroach. That's basically Transhumanism, and Bioengineering, a human cell and infecting it with a cockroach vector.  That's what A Cell Divides is about. The vector transforming his DNA and cells and morphing with the cells of the vector.

I think it would be in poor taste and way too on the nose as a subject matter. :dunno:

Bruce Springsteen made an entire album in the wake of 9/11 (The Rising) and it's one of the most acclaimed of his carrer. Granted, the songs were more focused on people and they were generic enough to pretend they were about other situations, so there weren't any direct songs about the planes (one was praising the firefighters), but still recent tragedies can be sang in songs if there's enough taste and sensibility.

But then of course I understand the reasoning behind "geez, it's one year we're living with this, at least with music let us forget about it for a little while".

Probably best for the P/R, but I personally dislike very much being told what I "need" and what I should "forget".  If an artist is in touch with his/her muse, if they have a point of view, I say go for it.  We had Bruce, as you mentioned, we had Neil Young and a hundred other artists weighing in on the Iraq War, I don't see how this is different.  Personally, I think some people might find comfort in addressing it through music, as opposed to what I've seen so far - whining about 2020 like it was the guy down the street whose dog keeps shitting on your lawn, or this incessant reliance on "hope" as a strategy - which, and I can only speak for myself, isn't doing it for me.

I Used to love these fantasy craft album tracklist/artwork threads, back in the day! :lol

DT15 needs a song with lyrics by Mangini called " Nineteen Sixteen " it lasts 19:16 and is entirely in 19/16

Oh and thanks for reminding me about The Rising. Great song. I loved "Human Touch" back in the day. Also "Souls of the Departed".

I was going through the last year's pictures on my phone to find something suitable in terms of a cover for a DT album, but you know how the past year has been, so (slightly NSFW I guess). Hopefully it's not against the rules, if so I will change the picture :) This is obviously satire as I really liked DoT and have absolutely nothing against the band.

One more NSFW warning

PROGRESSIVE METAL GIANTS DREAM THEATER SET TO RELEASE THEIR 15TH STUDIO ALBUM THIS SUMMER

Two-time GRAMMY-nominated and millions-selling progressive music titans Dream Theater are back with the latest studio effort to their impressive thirty-one-year catalog of releases. Scheduled for release on June 12th, the band is set to unleash their fifteenth studio album Into the Vortex.

Following their latest live release Distant Memories – Live in London, which documented the band's popular world tour in support of their latest critically acclaimed studio album Distance Over Time and the 20-year anniversary of their seminal concept album Metropolis Part 2 – Scenes From A Memory, Into the Vortex once again shows the musicianship and creative force behind the name Dream Theater. The rich and detailed artwork by the band's usual collaborator brings the package to the whole another level.

"I feel we really outdid ourselves on this one. Of course, I can't say this is the best album we've done, because they are like children to me, I couldn't pick my favorite one if you asked me. But I really feel we captured lightning in the bottle with Into the Vortex. The music, the lyrics, the guests—we decided to bring a couple of guests for this one, James sang on that Evergrey album last year, so we asked Tom to contribute on one song, and then we have Neal on another one. Their insight really made these songs special! We ultimately decided to let them name the songs—it all comes together beautifully," one of the musicians explains.

Into the Vortex is the band's first studio release since 2019's Distance Over Time. The new live release will be available in various configurations including digital only, a standard jewel case edition, a 2-CD and DVD digipak with slipcase, a limited deluxe 3-CD and DVD Artbook, and a limited 4-LP, 2-CD and DVD box set. The video components will also feature a Behind The Scenes look at the band as they recorded one minute of their song. All formats of Into the Vortex are now available for pre-order.

The first single, Embrace the Fall, will see the light of day on February 5th.

The last time I tried this, I inadvertently made an album that was very similar to the Rush album Roll the Bones. My cover had dice on it and the songs all shared themes of luck/chance. Someone pointed it out in the thread, but I genuinely had no idea as I've never been into Rush. It fit in well with the "What would Rush do?" philosophy though  :lol

Anyway, here's a quick effort:

1. Recoil (Instrumental) - 3:40
2. The Paradox - 6:17
3. Olympia - 9:06
4. Flying the Nest - 5:21
5. Delusional - 6:58
6. The Narrow Passage - 7:22
7. Antimatter - 8:33
8. Hold Back the Tears - 4:20
9. Lambda Sphere - 15:46
