Yeah it is a shame they couldn't get a proshoot to document an Astonishing concert and release it for the fans. I'm not a huge Astonishing fan myself, but even I must admit that was *quite* the live show.

They have done it twice so naah, they should try something new like guest musicians on stage or something like that

I mean, in general, dropping a live release for every album can seem a bit over the top, so leaving one out kinda makes sense to me.

The fact that they will be playing SFAM in its entirety will make the DVD live up to some high expectations.

It was one of the best live shows I've seen. That album was written to be played and experienced live.....really bummed there won't be a DVD of it anytime soon.

Since this is going to be recorded next year, they could make another setlist change and/or rotate an A setlist and a B setlist for the first half of the show and the encore, with the 2nd half being SFAM. They record both nights and release an album with a varied setlist, hopefully with most of D/T, and a great live version of SFAM. Could be worse

Well, yes and no.  The orchestration itself for any DT song would likely be well within their grasp.  But on the other hand, even VERY well educated and experienced classical musicians (and conductors, for that matter) typically do not deal on any regular basis with very many odd time signatures or pieces with so many time signature changes.  I am not saying it would be beyond an orchestra's ability by any stretch.  But I am confident that, for many, it would take some work to get up to speed.

While the standard repertoire (i.e classical through romantic) is pretty straightforward rhythmically, anyone who has gone through conservatory training will have played and been exposed to enough 20th century music that would easily equal if not surpass the DT stuff in any sort of meter complexity.

But they didn't even end up using them on the live album anyway. Didn't they just dub in the studio version? Do I have this wrong?

From what I understand, it's mixed with Jordan's keys, and the keys are a tad louder than the orchestra.

This is great news, hopefully this time around they get a good mix done. The SFAM concert was excellent and the new tracks ruled live. Won't be able to make it to any show that are playing the other tracks that didn't play in my show.

I'm going to be there for the second night, flying there from Italy.
It'll be a special night for sure, but I hope they have something different in mind, some new ideas...
We already have a DVD with SFAM in its entirety, and it's probably my favorite one. They also made a short tribute with the orchestra to this album in "Breaking the fourth wall".
I'm afraid people will just complain about James and his voice, or Mike vs Mike.
Btw, I can't wait!!!

IIRC, James said it was to be released around November. JP said he isn't sure about the release date, but that it's currently being worked on.
