It's the battle of the second singles of the Mangini-era albums and I have to say that hands down, FitL destroys the competition.

IDontNotDoThings

Yeah, no contest: FITL > MOB > AFTR > BMUBMD. They're already in order for me.

erwinrafael

I hope this speaks well of the quality of the album, that the second single did not drop off in quality compared to the first.

The headache to remember all the acronyms  :lol

FITL is easily the best, though I really like Moment of Betrayal too (maybe my favourite off Astonishing)
Also really like BMUBMD for what it is.
Not a big fan of ARTR though, it overtly saccharine and probably one of their weakest ballads for me.

+1, with FITL and MOB closely placed, but far ahead of AFTR and BMUBMD.

1. Fall into the light- So far I really like it.

2. Build me up - Heavy and catchy. I always liked it.

3. Along for the ride - wouldn't have been my choice for a single if I was them. Its an ok ballad, and not bad as a later track on an album, but is weak as a single.

4. MoB- I didn't remember what it sounded like and had to go re-listen to it. Didn't do much for me.

krands85

This one's quite different to the last poll, where I really liked all those first singles. With this one, Moment of Betrayal is the only one I'd have even close to the class of the first singles.

1. MoB - Not as enjoyable as The Gift of Music, but still one of my favourites from The Astonishing
2. FITL - I've only listened to this a few times, so I still need time to get more familiar with it, but the second half alone puts it into second
3. BMUBMD - Could have had the last 2 in either position. It's OK, something a little bit different, but doesn't appeal to me that much and one of the weakest tracks on ADTOE
4. AFTR - Decent enough ballad, though not my favourite style of DT
Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

The second single from DT12 wasn't the looking glass?
Anyway, TLG>TGoM>FitL>MoB>AftR>BMUBMD.

fadetoblackdude7

I think BMUBMD might be my least favorite DT song, ever.

If I remember, Enemy Inside was the first and Along for the ride was second.

1. FITL
2. MoB
3. BMUBMD
4. AFTR

Yup, this ones a bit easier to list than the 1st singles.

lovethedrake

Easily FITL is the best of the bunch.   IMO  MOB and AFTR are tied and then I hate the ADTOE  track.

Im very pumped about this album.

YtseJamittaja

Hmm, this seemed to be really hard choice for me as these all songs are not in my top20 or 30. I have already forgotten AFTR even exists  ;D

1. BMUBMD - still listen to this every now and then but it really doesn't sound like DT. I could like it more if there has been some growler (not MP) to do those grispy vocals.
2. MOB - don't know why I don't usually listen to this song anymore but I think it's because I like to think The Astonishing as a whole piece and I rarely listen to any of the songs. It's nice but not great.
3. FITL - even though it's hard to put this one here as it's so new I think beside the worst DT chorus of all time the song has good elements.
4. AFTR - Decent ballad but least favourite from DT12.

Yup.  The singles from the Mangini albums were, in order:

-ADTOE:
1.  OTBOA
2.  BMU/BMD

DT12:
1.  TEI
2.  AFTR
3.  The Looking Glass

The Astonishing:
1.  TGOM
2.  Our New World

DOT:
1.  Untethered Angel
2.  Fall Into the Light

Dunno what MOB is.  Master Of Bread?  Mutton, Oven Braised?  Not sure.  But not a single.

Moment of Betrayal
and it was a single I thought?

At least looking at youtube, the audio was posted before the album came out, but maybe that doesn't actually determine that it is a "single" ?

Madman Shepherd

This one is tough.

1. Along for the Ride - I never understood why this wasn't bigger. To me it is the perfect anthem. Much better than Spirit Caries On.
2. & 3. (Tie) Fall Into the Light and Build Me Up, Break Me Down - The latter is so underrated. This new one is pretty much everything that makes DT good minus its somewhat shorter length and no soaring vocals although the length and the vocals are perfect.
4. Moment of Betrayal - I honestly don't remember what this song sounds like, nor most of the album.

IIRC, it was premiered on Eddie Trunk's radio show by JP and JR, and it was picked because it was either the heaviest thing on the album or because it was the most DT-like of the songs. But just because they premiered it doesn't mean it was actually released as a single, although I can understand why some might be lead to believe that it was.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

1.  Along for the Ride:  Still could be my favorite from the album.  It is definitely in the top 3.
2.  Moment of Betrayal:  If it were the second "single," I guess I would rate it here.  Great song.  When I got my promo of the album, it was an instant standout.  I just wish those opening power chords during the intro had more power in the mix.  It's a huge moment that doesn't sound as huge as it should.
3.  BMU/BMD:  Fun song.  It isn't typical DT, but that doesn't matter.
4.  Our New World:  Since this is supposed to be about the second single from each album, I felt compelled to rank the actual second single.  Nothing wrong with it at all.  Very good song.  Nice riffs.  It just falls slightly behind the others mentioned.

Unranked:  FITL.  Too early.  I like it, but I can't rank it yet.

Yea it wasnt until Bosk questioned it that I thought wait is it really a single? I guess technically it's not but it did kind of feel like one at the time.

In my opinion MOB was a single but without video clip  ;)
It was officially released on January 22 before TA came out

Mine would be opposite if ONW is counted

That's how I thought althoguh I thought there was an official music video, but I was wrong just a "tour visuals" video.  So I don't think that counts, but this song definitely gives off the single vibe but if the band/label never considered it a single, then I guess it isn't.  Well Setlist Scotty and Bosk know more than I do here so if they say it's not a single then I am inclined to believe them.

geeeemo

If we are going with MOB then this.

The first 3 could be in any order, haven't had FitL long enough to see if it could climb higher (maybe).  I really like them all.
I dont care for AFTR and usually skip it.

MOB
BMU/BMD
FitL

AFTR

If we are going with GOM, then this.

GOM is at the lower end of TA for me. I really like TA, but not that song so much.

BMU/BMD
FitL

GOM
AFTR

cramx3

If it's not MOB then it would Our New World (GOM was the first single for sure and Our New World apparantly IS a single so if MOB isn't the second then ONW would be, I think)

so originally I had

1. FITL
2. MoB
3. BMUBMD
4. AFTR

If we use ONW, I think it actually stays the same with ONW swapping with MoB, however I would say ONW is much closer to BMUBMD than MOB is which is a really awesome song IMO.

Mladen

Build me up, break me down
Moment of betrayal
Fall into the light
Along for the ride

erwinrafael

Oh, Moment of Bretrayal was not a single? My bad.

If ONW is the second single, then my ranking would be ONW > FitL > AftR > BMUBMD

RoeDent

The concept of "the single" as it used to be is nonexistent now. MoB was the second track we heard off The Astonishing, prerelease. So it should count for this poll.
