Just to get this thread back on topic.  :rollin

I was listening to Into The Great Divide this morning, and if Mike Mangini could just match his brilliance in this album, I would be very satisfied.

If he was given the same liberty on the new DT, might very well be the case.

I think it will be even better, considering he got to write a lot of stuff for this album :metal

this. And thank you for going back on topic.

Well, you can't really get too upset at people for going off topic when the original poster went and changed to thread title to something that is so completely unrelated to the actual topic that it is all but impossible to figure out from reading it what the actual topic is even supposed to be.

I'm very excited for this release. I discovered them in February 2016 so this will be their first release since I discovered them. This thread is helping whet my appetite for it.

Nice to see lots of people in their first "new album cycle"... I remember when I discovered DT in the end of 2007, a few months after SC's release and discovered they would be touring in São Paulo later the next year. Too bad I couldn't see them as I had not the legal age to enter the show (16, I was 13/14 at the time hahaha). Gladly I got not only to see the BCSL cycle with all the hype we know so well, but got to see them for the first time in 2010. First and last with MP. Regardless of the final product DT delivers, the hype cycle will always be the same  :metal

That just made me realize, I've been listening to DT for nearly 10 years (come the new year). Black Clouds came out the year I got into them but I didn't really follow the release. It felt like ADTOE took forever to come out, but now Time Flies (tm) so fast in between album releases. I guess listening to more than one band helps with that. :lol

It seems like DT releases often coincide with Haken releases, within a margin of a 2-4 months. The only exceptions I can think of are Aquarius in 2010 and Restoration in 2014. This is very good for me because I get to eat, I mean cook, I mean digest these albums close together.

I discovered DT when the tour for Scenes just ended. I'm glad i had two of my top 5 DT albums ahead of me still. :-)

JP seriously needs an image consultant.  :lol

Dude, the hairline is gone. Cut that shit like the rest of us.  :lol

And for goodness sakes, trim the damn beard.

p.s. don't squash me like a grape. Thanks.

Huh, maybe I'm weird, but I don't mind his look at all.

Orbert

I don't care about his hair or his beard.  Guys wear their hair the way they like, and if girls (or other guys) don't like it, too bad.

But standing that way definitely makes his barrel chest look like boobs, and that's unfortunate.  We get it, dude, you're the bear.  You could crush a normal guy in each hand while still somehow playing 32nd-note runs on the guitar.  But there's a point where it just doesn't look right, and you've passed that point.

All that aside, it's photo shoot time now apparently, and that's one of the final steps to be taken I'm sure. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Probably not.  On the recording front, James posted on Saturday Sept. 8 that vocals are still "going down" (check out the DT14 timeline thread).  There may be more overdubs to do, and then the mixing process and then mastering.  I don't think we have any info about where things stand with album artwork.

I actually like the huge untrimmed beard style, but oh well.

Samsara

All,

I was making a joke. Just ribbing JP, just to kid around. Dude can look however he wants, of course.  :)

I mean, I wish I could stretch my legs out and be 5'10" instead of 5'6", but that's a look I can't pull off.  :lol

For god sakes guys try and look more relaxed in these photos than you have managed to over the past 15 years. I feel we've gotten past the "We play metal, let's all look tough and serious" look, but their photos always look so uncomfortable, like they have no idea how to stand, what to do with their arms, etc...  and it makes everyone look awkward. Except JM, who mastered the "I'm just gonna stand here with my poker face and let you take all the pictures you want" look around the time of Awake.
Maybe the grass is greener on the other side because you're not over there fucking it up.

I know what you mean; Mike Portnoy is so uncomfortable about it, he hasn't been in any of the pictures since 2011! ;)
