Don't live DVDs come out after the tour is over, normally ?

Yes, but the announcement of filming usually comes before tickets for the tour (or at least the show) go on sale.

Typically, they do. But, Breaking The Fourth Wall did come out while they were still touring for DT12 (though, kinda close to the end).

Mladen

Wonderful new episode. They left out the theme at the beginning of the 2nd Overture, though. I don't know whether that's considered to be the Faythe theme, though, but sounds like it to me.

hefdaddy42

No live DVD has officially been announced by the band.  Until something is announced, there is no live DVD.

Well, technically, yes.  But since they have said unofficially that they plan to do one, I think it's a safe bet it will happen barring some unforeseen reason making them change plans.

Yeah, that's Faythe's theme too.. They also left out its appearence on A Savior in the Square, The Walking Shadow (although JP mentioned it) and Astonishing (the one at the very beginning)..

These vids are amazing.. Very instructive and interesting.. Also, listening JR/JP singing James' part in the final track has no price..

mikeyd23

Cool second episode, it's amazing how much thought and detail went into arrangements and composition integrating these different themes.

And how quickly they were able to write and record it . It's a 130 minute album and they still managed to write The Astonishing and record the entire album in under 2 years.

I think they only left out 'A Savior in the Square'.

Late to the party, but I've just found these videos. Especially cool to hear how they did the chromatic thing with the Brother theme in the final track. That is one of the most beautiful passages in the entire album.

They don't really need to go into detail with the overtures. They just introduce us to the themes and transport us into the world of the story.

I guess.  They have announced a shitload of other tour stops, but still haven't said anything about the show being filmed.

I hope so, but I'm not counting on it.

If they know it, they should say so that people buy the tickets.  My guess is, they aren't filming any of the NA shows because of the fact they haven't announced it and ticket sales look poor on this round.  I'd guess there will be more shows maybe another Euro leg or somewhere else and that's where they will film, if they do so.  They'd be crazy not to film it.  Just my thoughts on the subject.

Chino

Yeah... not filming this one would make absolutely no sense to me.

Yes. I really want to see the live production of it, so... I don't know. I know it's been said unofficially, but I reealllly hope we hear it officially, soon.

Prog Snob

I would love if they actually included guest vocals for the show they film. I really enjoy Lzzy Hale's guest vocals on Our New World. I don't see it happening though.

That would be neat.

While I wasn't crazy about her vocals as Faythe, I would totally dig the idea of using her or anyone else in general for the filming.  Also an orchestra and choir.

But I'd be happy if it was just the band playing in front of the individuals in front of a hopefully sold out crowd in a nice venue.

hefdaddy42

BTW, back on topic a little...

I caught pt. 2, and they REALLY should have used individual mics on their voices.  I don't mind when it's just them talking, but when they are talking while playing, I practically can't hear them anymore.

I heard that is how they're going to record the next album. One mic in the room and James is going to produce it.

It probably was James trying to bury the bass even more in the mix...

tyranor

Great videos, really enjoyed them but gosh, why did they record audio on camera mic, it's horrible  Surely Dream Theater can affor a couple of good radio mics  :)

Mladen

How come I can hear every word they say and every single note they play? The sound quality isn't perfect, but everything is audible.

I can hear quite clearly too. But I listen with my headphones on.

Don't forget this is brought to you by the forum that spent several pages moaning about "people just don't have the time for music anymore".

(FTR, I agree with you.)

I remember that. It was one of the most ridiculously nitpicky discussions I've ever seen.

Probably hidden it as it seemed to end abruptly when I watched it earlier.

RoeDent

Yep. Not available to watch yet. But hopefully it means it should be here in the next few days or so. Heck, the next album might be out by the time we've covered all the themes of The Astonishing in these videos.
