Which is the song that, according to you, just goes on for too long and lasts way more than it should have? It doesn't mean it's bad!

Mine is probably Repentance, really? 10 mins of which only 5 is actually sung or whathever.
Short bloated song is maybe AFTR, the chorus is said too many times and it isn't even that good, for me, it's the laziest DT song ever, even tho I don't rate it bad.

You should have done this as a poll. Anyway, the first thing that comes to MY mind is Octavarium. But mostly the FIRST half.

SystematicThought

The Ministry of Lost Souls or ITPOE Pt 2.

energythief

Please redo this thread as a poll!

I hate selective polls with inherent bias, so this is what you'd have to do. Forget that!

I agree with Repentance. Great song, but I always forget how long that song is. Maybe AROP too, but again a great song. Don't agree with the other mentions so far.

There are several 100's of people here, which means hundreds of different opinions, that's enough to require a full listing of DT's catalogue, which, excuse me, but I'm not willing to list 100+ songs just for that.

Crow

illumination theory of inner turbulence
turns out signatures are fundamentally broken now so here's my passive-aggressive signature about signatures instead

Mosh

Ministry of Lost Souls easily.

pcs90

Most of the 12-step suite, ANTR, Octavarium...
I feel the ITNOG instrumental is way too long, but the rest of the song is just about perfect.

gabeh1018

most definitely a nightmare to remember...
the song goes downhill after  the beautiful agony section
too bad they didn't just wrap things up sooner than later

Ooops! I wasn't thinking when I said that! Sorry.

That's a better idea than listing every song, although even that is about 30 options, and there are songs under 10 minutes that I'd imagine some people would mention.
I know it's the DTF way, but not everything needs a poll. :lol

Well, thhhhpt.

Without a poll, I will cast my vote for Repentence. It's such a rehashed let-down and a poor, soggy end to the saga.

Runner-up: Octavarium

namgalsipsclar

In the Name of God. I swear the song has about three different sections and yet it fills fourteen minutes. Seriously there's about nine choruses, and I don't like the chorus in the first place. Halve it and we're good.

As mentioned already, A Nightmare to Remember is similar and manages to take up sixteen minutes on my itunes despite filling about five minutes in my memory. I'd also say Outcry, In the Presence of Enemies, The Great Debate, Home and Illumination Theory in there as well. All songs that I can't justify their length in my mind.

V_R11

Misunderstood. What's the point of that instrumental anyway?

The same point as any instrumental.

If you mean the end part, I totally agree with you!

wasteland

Ministry Of Lost Souls or In The Name Of God. ANTR is a strong candidate as well.

Logain Ablar

I'm not a big of fan of Repentance either. I usually skip forward when it goes to the talking section.

My choice would be The Best Of Times. Don't get me wrong - I really like this song, but I think it could have been bumped up to another level with a bit of editing. I'm not really keen on the "The fleeting winds of time" or the "Thank you for the inspiration" sections. They could have had just one of these breakdown sections, and then into the outro solo. (Which is incredible, and redeems the rest of the song)

Just my opinion, as ever..

erciccio

The Best of Times (I basically would cut anything before the solo)
The Glass Prison
A Nightmare To Remember
Octavarium
The Ministry of Lost Souls
Illumination Theory

jakepriest

Illumination Theory
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Ministry of Lost Souls
A Change of Seasons
Misunderstood

El JoNNo

Endless Sacrifice, This Dying Soul, and really 50% of that album is just not needed.

Shooters1221

Beyond This Life.  :metal
I love it as is, but it could have been trimmed a bit.

KevShmev

Six Degrees of Inner Turbulene - having that last note fade out for that long is the definition of bloat.

TheCountOfNYC

The Glass Prison. That one section before the vocals kick back in again feels like it goes on forever. That could have been trimmed down by about a minute and the song would have been perfect.

Oh yeah.
Still, the song is like a magnified version of an epic, so in a sense I think it's OK to have the last note that long (the Overture is also almost twice as long as "1928").

A Nightmare to Remember
This was my first impulse.

Even though I really like the song, me too. I feel like it's an amazing 11 minute song with 5 minutes of good, yet superfluous parts.

lovethedrake

This Dying Soul.     The entire Octavarium album other than the title track :)

PixelDream

A Rite of Passage. Way too much of that chorus, and the overall song just seems to drag on forever.

ADramaticTurnofChaos

I'll go with A Nightmare to Remember. The song doesn't need to be 16 minutes long.

Also the tough guy vocals need to go.

seasonsinthesky

Lots of consensus in my list, too.

A Nightmare to Remember
A Rite of Passage
This Dying Soul
The Ministry of Lost Souls
Sacrificed Sons
Honor Thy Father
Stream of Consciousness
On the Backs of Angels
Through Her Eyes
Pull Me Under
Bridges in the Sky

And nearly every song on DT12 except the opening three.

Yeah, cause BtV, StR and AftR so bloated.  I can't understand TBP being bloated either (but at least it's long enough), though I can understand it for EM or IT even if I disagree.
