Someone's odd subjective problem with a perfectly good lyric does not somehow make it "bad poetry" or something equally absurd.

Well, it does to me. If you bring subjectiveness into it it works both ways here.

Sadly I'm gonna choose Hymn of a Thousand Voices, I really love this song up until the gospel prayer kinda part. Sounds so jarring to me and sticks out like a sore thumb in the album, I don't even mind religious/Christian kind of music but this is done so cliche and straightforward in this case.

Whispers on the Wind is kind of a Far From Heaven/Vacant type of track, but it has less going for it than these two, both instrumentally and emotionally. Still, the climax of that song (right before the end) is touching enough that I can't vote for it.

The rest of the album is perfection.

If you're referring to the way they ended HoaTV, I pretty much agree with you. I think it would have been better if it  had gone into something a little more "upbeat," maybe even "rocked it" a little with some guitar, drums, keyboard & bass sounds, etc. In fact I think this is a big part of the reason a lot of people don't like to go to church: the MUSIC is so old, outdated and BORING! I'm not saying they have to write all-new hymns and Gospel songs, just do something about the style.

Just to clarify, it is the term "music player" that people are up in arms about right? If so, how is that even cheesy in this day and age when everyone doesn't leave the house without their headphones on?

That doesn't make it a good lyric. Lyrics are supposed to be a form of poetry, but DT seems to have forgotten this over that last few years.

Agreed. This section could have been done more subtly, with more indirect references. Petrucci could have been explicit about the music player in the narrative on the website.

BCYHM and WOTW are the only 2 that really fit here, and I still don't consider them bad. Begin Again is kind of pointless but it has a nice mini solo at the beginning and that Disney Christmas outro thing is so cool.

The song is absolutely beautiful, and one of the first songs that got me really excited about the album, and still one of my favourites from the album.
I do agree that the music player lyric is silly, and it held me back from fully enjoying the song at first, but I think people are either overblowing that one criticism, or just don't like ballads even when they're written that well.
