Now that Rush have officially retired from touring and being the forefathers of DT, I want to start a thread where you can clearly hear Rush-inspired DT songs, parts in songs, or just influences. I apologise in advance if this has been done before

I have the following so far:

Status Seeker
Ytse Jam (YYZ-style song)
The Looking Glass (the intro strongly reminds of Limelight)
Surrender to Reason
Breaking All Illusions (JP´s fantastic 6:07-8:40 solo strongly reminds me of Lifeson´s solo 3:35-5:50 in La Villa Strangiato)
Brother can you Hear me (Hemispheres 12:45)

Feel free to comment and add more references

The drum fills in the intro to Trial of Tears sound very much like the ones in the intro to Rush's Xanadu.

The Best of Times has a strong The Spirit of Radio-vibe when the full band kicks in just shy of the 3-minute mark.

The last riff in The Dance of Eternity (the one in Lydian mode) sounds like Free Will.

Architeuthis

You all ready mentioned the most obvious ones but..
Innocence faded (the chorus and outro)
Learning to live (beginning of outro similar to beginning of Digital Man guitar solo) especially the bass lines leading in.

Architeuthis

There could be a bunch more threads like this where DT songs draw influence from other bands such as:
Pink Floyd
Yes
Iron Maiden
Metallica
Etc etc.
One that immediately comes to mind,,  the chorus in The Great Debate, strikingly similar to Run To The Hills.. Even the drums..lol

Now I can't unhear it!

Sacrificed Sons riff before the solo section drawing heavilly from Natural Science would be another one for the list imo

King Postwhore

Surrender To Reason is a total Rush homage.   Both the guitar and bass sound is Permanent Waves all the way.

I can't believe one of the most blatant ones hasn't been mentioned yet!: The Count of Tuscany.

Oh absolutely. Heard it on the first listen. Very cool.
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.
