Which of the following songs not played since 2010 or prior do you most want to hear on the next tour after "The Astonishing Live"?  I purposely left out "A Change of Seasons" (because I fear a landslide there), b-sides, and the few songs never played live at all (again to avoid a landslide).

MirrorMask

Voted for I Walk Beside You, but it could have been Voices instead.

Only a Matter of Tie is about the importance of wearing a suit, btw?

That and its follow-up track, "Only A Matter of (Space-Dye) Vest."

Thanks for the fix :-)

Octavarium. It's my favorite song by them and my life would be complete if I heard it live.

Honorable mentions for me would be Take the Time, Vacant/Stream of Consciousness, Home, Lines in the Sand, and Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence in full.

Too many candidates but I have to go the the first opinion, Take the Time. So powerful in live setting. This with extended guitar/keyboard duet outro.

Poll might be more interesting if you were allowed 3 votes or something? Anyway, I picked Octavarium - my number 3 DT track - would be incredible to experience that live. In the Name of God would be my second choice, just behind 8VM in my rankings. Train of Thought as a whole has been neglected a bit recently, only 2 of the 7 tracks having any play time - which is a pity for me since it's my second favourite DT album :P

Take the Time would have been my third choice, but I've seen that live before, so I'd say In the Presence of Enemies instead. Doubt that will get played again any time soon, if ever, though.
Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

Tough when there's only one vote, because I would like to hear anything I've never heard before, which is about 20-25 songs on the list or so. Went with Only a Matter of Time, because it's one of my personal favorites.

I wanted to allow for up to 5 picks but didn't see that option.

Dream Team

No ACoS?? That would have been my vote.

Adami

I can't just pick a song I want to hear, I have to factor in what I want to hear played to a click track with piped in background vocals and Mangini's style of drumming.

So I went with Glass Prison. I think the click would help even that song out a bit.

To be honest though, I could easily be persuaded to pick a different song.

Lines in the Sand...I'd be curious to hear how MM plays it. For that song to work, it really has to groove, and he's definitely capable of that, but I imagine his overall style would be interesting on that track.

BlobVanDam

I don't know how many times I'll have to say it before it finally happens, but THE GLASS FUCKING PRISON.

Crow

Take the Time is the best song on this list, so, that
turns out signatures are fundamentally broken now so here's my passive-aggressive signature about signatures instead

Went 8VM, but this would be second.

bl5150

Take The Time because I&W  :metal  -  and it's my son's favourite song at the moment.

SebastianPratesi

What about "Surrender To Reason" / "The Bigger Picture"? "STR" is one of my favourites, and I think it would sound amazing in a live environment.

Although they were released aftert 2010, so I could understand why they are not on the list.

EDIT: Nevermind, just read the original post more carefully. Sorry!

Should really be a live staple.

Yeah, pretty crazy to think that song hasn't been played in 11 years. I still remember listening to a pirated version in late 2001 and rocking out incessantly in my college dorm - I couldn't believe how heavy it was for DT! A very special moment in music history for me. (And don't worry, of course I bought the album when it came out in early 2002).

genome

TGP was the first Dream Theater I ever heard, circa 2005. The album I bought directly after this was the then new album Octavarium, so I would love both of those. I stumped for 8VM on the poll due to the Razor's Edge solo.

Tomislav95

Blind Faith. Octavarium would be my second pick, not first just because of length.

Wow - Octavarium by a landslide so far. Maybe I should've factored that one out along with ACOS. But cool to see "The Glass Prison" getting the next most votes.

I voted "You Not Me / You Or Me" because I happen to really dig the song (in either form), and it hasn't been touched in 18-19 years.

bosk1

I was one of the ones who voted for Octavarium.  As others have said, it would have been great if you had allowed multiple selections.  Others I would most like to see, in rough order of preference, are:
-The Glass Prison
-Misunderstood
-A Nightmare to Remember
-Take Away My Pain
-Home

snapple

Only a Matter of Time.

I'm over the newer stuff at this point. And 8VM is painfully boring, to me.

This.

Of the ones listed, easily 8VM or TGP.

But my real choice would be ACOS.

I totally wanted to allow multiple selections but couldn't find that option.

Ah geez I see it now. "Votes per user...." I thought that meant number of times someone could vote for the same song. I'll try to change it if  I can.

bosk1

Not a big deal.  But just so you can find it for future reference:

Change the "1" to however many you would like people to be able to select.

EDIT:  Okay, I see you found it.  :lol

I f you can't change it, what you CAN do is restart the thread, and have this one locked

Disciple_Kickstand

Easy didn't even have to read the whole list, Glass Prison.  I've been hoping that song shows up on a stylist pretty much the entire time I've been a DT fan.  :metal

InFlames235

I'm very lucky to have seen Octavarium live but I voted for it anyways cuz it's one of my top favorite Dream Theater songs and I'd LOVE to see it again. There's actually a ton of songs on this list I'd really really love to see such as Take The Time, Glass Prison & In The Name of God. I have a sneaky feeling maybe some of those songs are getting a little too difficult to play for them potentially which is why they're avoided? I know they have some complex stuff and can still shred it up but man, the intro sweeps in Glass Prison, the solo in ITNOG & the singing in Take the Time are some insane stuff to have to do.

I think the length of TGP and ITNOG are also a factor on top of that, although obviously not quite as much as with Octavarium. I don't think ITNOG is too difficult relative to their other material, although TGP is almost non stop speed, and Take the Time is a tricky one on vocals even compared to the rest of Images and Words.

I notice you have several songs from 6DoiT, but not The Great Debate. Have they played it recently, did you forget, or is it just a song that you hate?

They played it on the ADTOE tour in 2011. It's on the Happy Holidays 2013 official bootleg release.

chaossystem

Okay. Thanks for clearing that up. I'm not really able to look it up right now, which is why I asked.
