Stupid question time. Is the first solo guitar or keys?
@ 1:21? Most definitely Guitar  :metal

CDrice

Oddly enough, when I heard the small part of it in the trailer video it left me pretty much indifferent. But now that I heard the whole song, it's definitely one of the standout track of the album for me. The main guitar riff and the chorus are awesome  :metal

Yeah, maybe wishful thinking on my part that JR and JP alternated solos in this song.  :lol The ending of the solo blending into the background keys fed to that fantasy.

You know what bit is cool? Just before the 3 minute mark coming out of the guitar solo when the guitar plays the one note version of the riff, and the bass comes in doubling it, then outro chorus.

That moment is a bit odd. Sounds like a bit of a stumble.

You be craycray, Koko.

Best song on the album, by a solid margin. It's care-free, and deceptively simple songwriting. Great performance by James.

The deceptively simple ones are often my favourites. :tup DT has always been great at making more complex music sound accessibly simple.

Anyone worked out the tunings for this?

I've figured it out in just a drop D tune on a 6 string. Wondering if there's a more accurate way to play it though. When I try to use some the fingerings he uses on the MB demo vid, doesn't seem to work out right.

Looks to be down a whole step rather than drop D. He's playing that first power chord with the pinky on the 7th of the D string, and it's sounding an A rather than a B.

If this is the next single, Roadrunner should really push to get this one some radio play.

Mmhm. I kiiiinda thought that as well. But didn't want to start detuning randomly without some input  :lol

Ah well... sounds pretty close with a drop D. Missing a bit of depth on some of the chords but sounds great playing along with it. First JP riff I've been this driven to figure out in a while.

This should help. He plays the riff in this video....But he could just be playing the riff in whatever that guitar happens to be tuned to.

Drop D sounds different to D std.

Yeah. gotta fake the sound of the 7th string though with that Drop D. Don't have one of those >.>

Architeuthis

I was thinking it had more of a Journey kind of feel off of one of their newer albums like ARRIVAL or REVELATIONS.

BlobVanDam

You're right. I can't count.

I can sorta hear that.

Kotowboy

But holy crap that guitar is perfectly intonated.

If I played all those high double-stops on my guitars they'd all be a hair out of tune.

Of course it is. It was probably pulled off the setup table and handed right to JP just before they hit record >.>

Although the better quality instrument, the better it holds intonation. Going from an $600.00 Fender to a $xxxx.xx dollar Gibson solved so many issues with that  :lol

Created a different one with my wife... 0_o

But worth it

Kotowboy

How well intonated is your wife ?

( insert your own G string or "D" jokes here )

Well played and timed perfectly.
