Scenario- Dream Theater is going to do a DVD show with different singers doing different parts. Your task... cast each character in The Astonishing. The only rule is that JLB must and can only be one character. GO!!!!

(I'll do my casting once the album has sunk in a bit more, still only got one spin under my belt)

:lol I was thinking of making the same thread to cast for a movie, where I'd choose-

Nafaryus - Sean Connery

Pragmaticcircus

NOMACS - John Myung/Mike Mangini

Ok, sorry but you saw that coming  :mehlin

Amanda Seyfried: Faythe. Give her pink hair and a cloak and she's a dead ringer. Done some singing in Mamma Mia too..

DragonAttack

Nafaryus - Barry Dennen (Pilate in JC Superstar) in his prime.  Hell, I bet he could still pull it off now.

The person has to be able to sing.   It can't be Sean Connery.
Faythe could be played by Lindsey Stirling.

Darkstarshades

Sorry, but I'll have to keep JLB as Nafaryus, he just kicks so much ass.

Bolsters

Jorn Lande as Nafaryus.

So did I at first. We need that thread too.

I'm an actor, so fuck all y'all, I'll play Arhys, and that's that.

Going with the Star Wars influence, I'd imagine Daisy Ridley would make for an amazing Faythe.

Zac Efron or Chris Pratt for Gabriel?

Plus she already has the cloak skills down after 'Red Riding Hood'.

I just realized that Faythe looks freakishly just like Olivia Wilde. I'm not sure if she can sing but I know she can pull off pink hair. And quite frankly she could sound like Rosanne for all I care, not only is she gorgeous but holy crap...they look exactly alike.

Olivia's definitely got some similarities, but I still think Amanda Seyfried - a little softer look overall. Excuse my veeeerrrry quick and crude photoshop job, but just to give an idea, if you look at the spacing of her eyes and her mouth, it almost looks like Faythe was modelled from this pic..

I think you guys are missing the point - this is meant to be about casting singers in the rock opera. Not "which celebrity looks most like each character". :P

Nice!  :tup I can totally see it. Looks good; but man, I can't not see Wilde in Faythe. All in the beholder, I suppose.

And yeah, I get the casting. I just couldn't get over that.

I was completely serious about Beiber, by the bye.   :metal

Hahahaha, I did mention her doing some singing work in Mamma Mia, but I'd say there'd be better options to bring to the stage no doubt. Still, a bit of Sunday arvo fun never hurts  ;)

Oh for sure mate, definitely some similarities to Olivia, can see where that came from. Bieber is a great call for X!!!  :P ;D

Arhys - Zak Stevens (Savatage)
Gabriel - Michael Eriksen (Circus Maximus)
Nafaryus - Jon Oliva (Savatage)
Arabelle - Floor Jansen (Nightwish)
Faythe - Anette Olzon (Nightwish)
Daryus - Todd La Torre (Queensryche)
Xander - Spencer Sotelo (Periphery)

All of these are due to voices, not really how they look (Especially Spencer and Jon).

So, JLB is either a narrator, imperial guards or townsperson in Ravenskill?

Great idea for the thread. Will think about my casting and post a bit later.

Well, I was assuming that the thread meant people other than JLB (looks like I didn't read the OP properly) but if I could put him in, I'd have him as Gabriel.

Tomislav95

Definitely Anneke as Faythe.
I would leave James to be Nafaryus because I love how great and different he sounds. But, I think no one could be Arhys but James. So, Russell Allen for Nafaryus. Actually, there are vocal melodies in Lord Nafaryus which remind me of SX.
Next, Daniel Gildenlow as Gabriel.
Mikael Akerfeldt as Daryus.
I can't think of anyone for Arabelle and X.

I'd rather see what DTF poster plays each roll.  :lol

Oh shit, this must happen...   :rollin

Ok, I like Sir Russel for Nafaryus, though Olivia sounds pretty tempting. Also feeling Floor (hehehe) for Arabelle and good call on Anneke as Faythe, though I thing Amanda Somerville would be juicy in either part. Still bouncing around the others, but Tommy Karavik should be somewhere.

He would be good as Gabriel. Maybe Arhys, though I'm less sure.

God, no. I can't stand his voice.

Jon Oliva would be an awesome choice though.

Daryus

If you're comparing Daryus to a GoT character, Jaime Lannister looks a bit like him (apart from the grey hair that Daryus has).

DragonGuitar

Hmmm... Tentatively, based on just vocals...

Gabriel - Michael Eriksen (Circus Maximus) (I think his voice is pretty close to Gabriels and he fits the 'feel' of the role)
Arhys - Tommy Karevik (Seventh Wonder, Kamelot, Ayreon) (He would be fantastic as any role, really. He's very versatile and theatrical)
Xander - Uhhh... Young Michael Jackson? (haha can't think of any kid singers... either that or just cast some whiney emo type singer)
Faythe - Tarja Turunen (Ex. Nightwish) (Difficult to cast Faythe because we never hear a female voice in her role, but Tarja would be good)
Nafaryus - James Labrie (I think he was awesome in this role, but he was great in all his parts on this album)
Arabelle - Anette Olzon (Nightwish) (Arabelle doesn't have a lot of lines, so this one is flexible)
Daryus - Russell Allen (Symphony X) (Some people already suggested him as Nafaryus but I think he would be better as Daryus)

Yeah, theres my list. Subject to change. It would be cool to see how often certain singers show up in each role. I'm pretty confident in all of these, except Xander and Nafaryus (because I would rather cast someone entirely different here, not that JLB isn't good).
