That's pretty awesome. Congrats to JP.

Makes me wonder if his live rig with just have the new signature mesa amp or if he'll continue to use the Mark V.

CoT67

Wouldn't be surprising if he used it (maybe a prototype version) to record The Astonishing... very nice indeed.  :metal
Seems a full on no-bs reissue of his ol' trusty Mark IIC+, the transformer on the backside is the same.

Just was coming to post this. This is unprecedented for Mesa, they have never done a signature amp. JP is pretty deserving thou- he has always used Mesa since 92. Even in light of AxeFX gaining more and more steam, he has stuck with them.

JP uses the AxeFx for pretty much the majority of his effects while still using some pedals for effects, but keeping the Mesa Boogie amps for his main sound.

I was checking out the specs on the site and boy is that a beautiful work of art. I wish I could afford one of those.

goo-goo

Would love to get a Mesa hoodie or hat. That's about the only thing I can afford from the Mesa Site :corn

Yeah, I know this. I meant in the context of his main tone, and not effects unit as I kinda said amp. Also Mesa doesn't really do many effects units. Most are going to AxeFX for their main amp tone at this point I feel.

Unless AxeFX paid me to use their gear - i'd never use digital amps. Valves or gtfo plz  :coolio

Nefarius

The dual EQ section could be very useful, nice. No G.A.S. at all though, I'll keep my Mark V. :tup

According to some dude in the Fractal forum JP himself will demo the amp during NAMM. Here's hoping he'll play some riffs from TA while he's at it  (and post the video on YT) :metal

So it seems to be a MkIIC+ on steroids, wow. I still own a MkIIC+ but i'll have to try out this one.

skcubs

I own a Mark V and this is basically what I wish my Mark V was.
Identical 2nd and 3rd channel and midi. :tup

3400 USD, so at least 2500 GBP before mesa's huge mark-up for the UK :(

CoT67

The standard version should be 2500USD, the limited is the 3400 one. Still pricey with import taxes and all.

Is it really possible to do a IIC+ reissue though? I haven't owned a real one but have played one and they are different to the IIC+ mode on the Mark V.

Something like the company that made the transformers for the IIC+ went out of business, or the materials used to build them are no longer available, which is why the real IIC+ (i.e. not the Mark V version) have something special... something like that.

Yeah, I read that somewhere too, the company stopped working with Mesa and they weren't able to replace or replicate the components or something... though the transformer seems really similar in size and they could have just found a way to replicate the components, dunno if it's possible or not.

JP said it's based on his favourite Mark IIC+, so we'll see about the sound.

Really cool JP got a signature amp!

Chycki confirmed that the album was recorded with the JP-2C: https://www.instagram.com/p/BAn3Q8Ji9o8/?taken-by=richchycki

Not only did he confirm that the JP-2C was the only amp used on the album, he also says "Watch for my recording process online soon!" It would be really cool and interesting to learn more about Chycki's process for recording JP.

Oh fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu :censored :censored :censored :censored

My wallet is already crying. I was in the Hollywood Mesa location talking to a rep once, and he told me that JP turned down calling the Mark IV his signature model, so I'm surprised to see this. What I really am hoping is that my Mark V isn't going to be too different from this JP-2C...

mikeyd23

Nice!  :metal

Guess this means he will be moving away from the CryBaby rackmount with slave pedal that he has been using for years.

Kotowboy

Bit of a tangent - but Mark Knopfler's tech found out exactly where the wah needed to be in order for Mark to get the Money For Nothing tone and glued it in place and put an on/off switch on it.

So now all he has to do is click it on and he'll have the right tone.  :metal

But the 2nd channel is awesome. The Mark I mode alone would make it great, even without Edge and Crunch.

Well, at least I'll be able to afford the wah (maybe), but the amp will just be a dream for me.

I see both sides. It cannot be denied as at least an effects processor I thought? I have always longed for a tube/valve amp, and will always have a soft spot for Mesa Rectifiers. But practical concerns of home dwelling, price, not being a gigging individual, plus being primarily a bassist now makes me stay digital and pre-amp tubes/valves.

Even if the tones are indisputable between tube/valve vs. AxeFX/digital, I have read more than a few dumping Fractal due to the amount of time spent tweaking.

CoT67

The interesting thing is that a couple of low gain-clean tracks JP made with Axe FX while demoing ADToE actually ended up in the album... so he doesn't dislike using modeling from time to time. Also his use of the TriAxis live and in studio shows a certain interest in flexibility and tone variety, regardless of valve/digital sound results.

About the Axe Fx, he mentions it there: https://musicplayers.com/features/guitars/2011/1011_JohnPetrucci.php

Also interesting is that not all tracks on DT12 were made using the Mark V... the solo in The Bigger Picture and the intro in Behind The Veil were all recorded with the good ol' Mark IIC+: https://www.musicradar.com/news/guitars/dream-theaters-john-petrucci-the-total-guitar-interview-584217

Elite

I love how this looks at I love its specs. I think this one will be way too expensive for me however. Currently, I use a '87 Mark III red stripe, which is still pretty perfect for the age (only the tubes have been changed, but no other changes as far as I know). This will go on my list of 'awesome stuff I might someday get, but most likely will never have the money for'.

If anyone's interested, MESA boogie in the sevenstring.org forums posted this:

"This is an exact rebuild of the 105 transformers - we sent an original one to our custom transformer builder to have it reverse engineered...Thanks!

Awesome video! The amp sounds great, way outta my price range at this point, but definitely an amazing amp.
