I really like it and can't wait to hear the rest of the album.

It's not the best song in the world, but I like it.

It's okay, I'll still be interested in the album, just hoping other songs are better

This is really a disappointment. I hope the other songs are way better . . .

Here, I isolated the guitar from the synth solo at the end of the track, so you can better appreciate what's going on.

Guitar
Synth

Wow, that's nice! How did you do that?

It's quite simple, the synth and the guitar are mixed far left and right, what you're hearing is just the right channel and the left channel separately.

Damn, you're right! I was starting to thing that the "isolating tracks from an audio file" problem was kind of solved and was about to cry...  :rollin

Destiny Of Chaos

It is interesting to read the high praise that TEI was getting upon its release as compared to TGoM........

Cool to see those reactions, but yeah obviously the majority is going to be more pleased when it's the only thing they've heard on that album, they don't have other songs to compare it to.

So it is to be assumed that the synth at the end is a NOMAC? I think that's really cool if it was the intention
No, that's just pure speculation extrapolated from the tiny portion of the album that we've heard.

Yes. In my experience there are two kinds of people.

1. Those that can extrapolate from very limited data

Leave it to me . . . I even had to google what extrapolate meant, let alone do I understand the statement  :rollin

The Astonished

Am I the only one who thinks that the last part JLB sung in TGOM was his best vocally the best since SFAM? Just...astonishing.  ;D

Sadly, the only thing I like about this song is JLB's vocal performance. Other than that... meh. But overall I get that SDOIT/SFAMish vibe.

EraVulgaris

Listened to it a little more and I really like it. Love the optimistic, upbeat approach. The moment the chorus kicks in works really well and I really enjoy the short instrumental part at the end. Can't wait for january. :)

Why would you assume that?

fischermasamune

I assumed it because TGOM is setting the theme, so it introduces the situation and the hero of the Ravenskill. I thought the end was an example of him fighting the  NOMACs, or they trying to shut it down with their noise, and was hoping for more of those.

I may be wrong but I don't have any privileged info to know for sure (like Bosk possibly does).

Don't shoot. I wasn't assuming it, I just kept reading that Petrucci was Gabriel and Rudess was the NOMAC. I just thought I had missed something

This is DTF, people love to randomly speculate based on nothing.

Not saying it can't possibly be the case, just that there is no evidence or even indication that it is.

The song and the vocal performance is definitely a return back to my personal "golden age" of Dream Theater. SFAM, SDOIT . . . it definitely is astonishing - in a good way

True words my friend! And no one is more of a speculation king here than DTF's self-proclaimed resident whack-job!!!

So which astonishing disk do you think will be Metropolis Pt. 3 and which part will be Octavarium Pt. 2??? :P :lol

The Presence of Frenemies

Interestingly I thought James' performance on the song is one of his weaker turns. When he goes into the higher registers here, he sounds a lot like he does in his worse live moments (tonally; obviously he's not way flat or anything). I really hope that isn't the case on the rest of the album. It did intrigue me that JP said in the interview that singing Gabriel's parts is supposed to be like "a 25-year-old James LaBrie." Which could be amazing if he can pull it off.

Of course, being a 25-year-old James LaBrie, he should totally break into a Winter Rose song right in the middle of the album. Just, out of nowhere, the bridge of "Never Let Me Go." :neverusethis:

I loved this song from the first listen, but today it was another level. Finaly got to hear it with good headphones and man, this is just awesome. The choir part especially, really gave me the chills. I hope we get to hear alot of that in the full album.

Awe bosk1 is a great guy.  As long as you are not agressive you'll be fine here.
